The news of this tonight has really scared me.

We were told that the attack last week wasn't 'terrorist'. The fact that it lead to the fake news of being an 'illegal' bred the anti Muslim riots that we've been seeing is abhorrent.

Now we're being told that there has been a credible thread that IS planned a terrorist attack at a Taylor Swift concert.

Isn't that just going to inflame the situation and give the racists motive for more rioting? Is that their actual motive?

What is your point?

I don't understand your final paragraph. Are you suggesting details of the foiled attack by Islamic State supporters should be withheld?

Sorry, quoting myself here to clarify my own ramblings. Is IS using what has happened in the UK attack last week and now with he Taylor Swift concerts being postponed to further their own gain. To keep rioting in the UK as their benefit?

billycat321 · 07/08/2024 22:44

Anyone else sick and tired of hearing about Taylor Swift?

This is completely beside the point of the thread and, in the context of what is being discussed, a really inappropriate comment.

AngeloMysterioso · 08/08/2024 01:00

Why are TS's fans being targeted in particular?

She’s a figurehead for a lot of things these people hate.

Women in general, western women, powerful women, intelligent, independent women in particular.

Freedom of expression, frivolity, gay rights, relationships and sex without marriage…

She should be ecstatic that this was discovered and that she's safe!

I was thinking the same!

I doubt it. They would target a location in the UK to do that. From reading the Reuters link above, it was a planned attack. I'm sure there are constant attacks being organised and stopped which we never hear about. Terrorists walk among us. A (police) friend of DH's once told him that suspected terrorists walk among us and the police can only watch and monitor their whereabouts and exchange information with other intelligence.

From reading the Reuters link above, my understanding is this concert was stopped because large crowds who couldn't get tickets tend to gather outside the venue so even if the f*ckers couldn't gain entry to the venue, they would still have been able to access a huge crowd of people and the outside crowd would have been a guaranteed target.

That’s so true!

They often seem to target kids and youngsters enjoying themselves, fucking evil bastard! Same with the Manchester attack at AG concert.

MapleHearts · 08/08/2024 01:24

It's so sad, but these threats are something we're going to have to start living with and adapt to. The world's gone mad. Thankfully the plot has been foiled before anyone got hurt.

We were at Edinburgh for her show and I have to say the level of bag checking was abysmal, not sure if it was just our venue. You could have smuggled god only knows what in!

Edited

I once lent someone a couple of great big screwdrivers. When they gave them back to me I shoved them in my bag and then forgot they were in there. (You know what bags are like.) It was only when I was walking through a train station and found a large group of police officers shepherding everyone towards one of those knife-detecting arches that I remembered I still had them on me. I walked through the arch, the alarm went off, I waited for the mortification of being arrested and ...... a police officer just gestured for me to walk away, saying 'Carry on walking, please, madam.' I thought I would at least be taken away and questioned.

I swear smugglers and terrorists should just recruit middle-aged white women who look like they could play the next-door neighbour in a BBC sitcom.

I don't really follow her to know if it's true but the incel types (I went down a rabbit hole on this a while ago) seem to think she dates A LOT, and they hate that. Maybe cos she writes about it as well. It makes them angry to hear about women enjoying relationships/a sex life when they're not.

dreamerz · 07/08/2024 22:50

It's unfortunate timing given all the protests. This could just add more fuel to the arguments.

I'm glad they cancelled it and everyone is safe

It would have been better if Islamic terrorists had planned to blow up women and girls at a Taylor Swift concert at a different time?

WishOnSpaceHardware · 08/08/2024 01:42

Greigeisthelatestbeige · 07/08/2024 21:47

This is awful.

Why are TS's fans being targeted in particular?

Mainly just very young girls who like dancing and singing and dressing up. Why them and not grown adults who are voting for various Governments (not that we should be targeted either obviously).

Because Taylor Swift is an unapologetic feminist. Everything she does is for a female audience, not to please men. She is empowering a generation of girls to think for themselves, not just do what men want.

This recent article says that nearly 20 per cent of Australian men believe that feminism should be violently resisted:

Fucking weird a 19-year-old Austrian youth has been recruited into IS.

What's that all about?!

Life for women and girls is not getting easier. Terrifying.

I'm no expert but I imagine an attack of that scale would take months of planning. I'd say it's a coincidence.

dreamerz · 08/08/2024 01:54

@TryThinkingForYourself well obviously not. I’m not sure what your point is?

when you read the news it’s highly contradictory today. “yay look how wonderful we are stopping the protest, let’s all be friends, I love how vibrant my city is”

turn over…. Isis tries to blow up Taylor concert.

Call it what you will, people are fed up. And then this comes along to add further ammunition.

Foxlover46 · 08/08/2024 01:55

I'm
Going to wembley on the 19th .. all being well
I have a few friends over in Vienna who have been so excited for these three dates
I can only think it's targeted because it's mostly women and children all together being happy and joyful ... and they can't stand that can they

I wonder if the Man in Southport was radicalised as well..Maybe police found stuff on his computer/phone..?

oakleaffy · 08/08/2024 02:50

Drogdab · 07/08/2024 22:51

The question needs to be asked why is it young males that are willing to carry out these atrocious attacks.. 19 years old? Why?

I know, it’s so young. And the Southport boy was 17 (not terror related). How is your mind so warped so young or how is it so easily warped. It’s terrifying.

How do we know it wasn't terror related? Maybe the perpetrator in Southport has been radicalised online?

It will take police time to trawl though the perp's computer records, and they are unlikely to make it immediately public what with the heightened tensions currently.
When the trial takes place of the perp, then they may release more info as to the motives?

Oh fgs have you never heard of Shamima Begum? And there were many others of all nationalities who went to fight for the Caliphate.

Unfortunately there is nothing weird about it.

There have been Islamist terrort attacks in the UK and Europe for twenty years now. I'd say we're all well used to it, so much so that we barely talk about the cause, as can be seen on this thread.

Taylor Swift and Taylor Swift fans are not being particularly targeted. The concerts were targeted because she is the biggest selling live act and an attack there will cause maximum possible damage and fear. It has nothing to do with her being a feminist. The motivation is Islamist extremism's hatred of secular Western society and its values.

This isn't the first attack in Vienna.
