Brighton - Less than 10 anti-immigration 'protesters' and about 1,500 counter-protesters with more arriving all the time. Jazz band playing. No violence observed or reported. A couple of buses had to stop for a few minutes to get through the crowd.

Hastings likewise - a handful of anti-immigrationists, and hundreds of counter protesters, chanting "say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here".

Sorry I haven’t explained myself properly. I was too excited laughing in fits when I saw it!

I am saying I believe this list was built by the government. Very carefully selected locations (either that they could control the location, and/ or prompt a counter protest in selected locations).

At first I didn’t ever believe this was a true list. But I thought it was the EDl lot trying to bait out the Muslims like in Birmingham which resulted in them causing chaos, behaving badly and proving their two tier police claim.

Having seen the Sheffield location now. I think it’s the gov. There’s no way EDL would pick that location. And my god if that’s true they have pulled a blinder.

Hopefully this can all be out to bed now.

You do know that true Anti-racists don't deploy swastikas in their campaigns or scream for Jihad? Or align themselves with people who do?

It's such a shame that the counter-protests were muddied by pro-Palestinian obsessives. Anybody who truly wants peace in the region knows that it's complex and that a two state solution is the only way ahead. You don't resolve complex conflicts by taking up extreme ideological positions and tantrumming.

Croydon was planned to have rioters, it was at least expected, it was picked up in the media late in the day that it might. Lots of the shops closed all day today and everyone sensible was talking about how they were keeping out of the centre.

Local groups showed a non-white counter protest group forming in town and police in situ but with no riot ever materialising it seems the counter protest has unfairly turned on the police.

Honestly I bloody love the community here most of the time, they are some of the best neighbours I have ever had, but sometimes it feels like watching the tearaway nephew of the family making inexplicable choices to mess themselves up time and again. It is so disappointing. We are so much more than our hot headed young people but that's all we are remembered for.

While immigration has been rising violent crime has been falling and crime is the lowest in history in the UK. Stated in the excellent BBC article below.

You're not the only one speculating along those lines.

Let's hope it's worked and taken the wind out of the rioters' sails. A week or two of having to repeat this would be expensive and very disruptive.

Falling crime is not low crime. Crime is still far too high and too violent. And good luck getting help with any theft or burglary.

I don't understand how the defence of Muslims who have been targetted or even the support Palestine is not caring about Jewish people.

I say this as a person with Jewish family with many Jewish and Muslim friends.

Also I can't imagine anyone waving a swastika flag at a left wing march would be tolerated, when did this happen? Was that in this country? I am definitely of the view that if you tolerate a visible Nazi presence, waving swastika flags, having swastika or ss tatoos or giving salutes at a rally and they aren't chucked out you are at a Nazi rally.

Oh well comedy cook my daughter has just phoned me on her return home from the Bristol counter protest. I know you don't like to hear it but she went with her Jewish flatmate and Jewish colleagues. Anyway thousands were there and all was peaceful.

Do I believe the government did it? No, the government (what ever party they are) and the civil servants aren't competent or clever enough to arrange something like that. If anything they've just stoked it.

Probably someone like Stand Up to Racism put it together, gained traction on social media, legacy media knew it to be a hoax (didn't see a BBC Verify on it) and promoted it to help organise the counter protests.
