Brighton - Less than 10 anti-immigration 'protesters' and about 1,500 counter-protesters with more arriving all the time. Jazz band playing. No violence observed or reported. A couple of buses had to stop for a few minutes to get through the crowd.

Hastings likewise - a handful of anti-immigrationists, and hundreds of counter protesters, chanting "say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here".

I think they have just been punked!

I thought the publicity for this was all a bit weird considering how the spreading of riot locations has previously been an issue. So for this to be leaked and published in daily mail and other news just felt bizarre.

Having just seen Sheffield counter protest on Twitter. The apparent immigration office that was supposed to be targeted was in Broomhall. Literally on the doorstep of the Sheffield Uni Student Union! There’s absolutely no way that was a planned EDL meet point. That was never going to work.

I think this might have been a massive set up and they have pulled it off!

Imagine a died-in-the-wool Yorkshire person saying, "Are you not concerned that someone could enter the county from another county and be a violent criminal, and we don’t even know they are here ? If there’s no record they’ve arrived here, then the Yorkshire Home office don’t know."

Would that be common sense? What's the difference? And why is that difference relevant?

From what I can see it all looks like made up bollocks with thousands of counter protesters but not any actual protesters to counter.

Of course British people commit crimes but if they’re born here they are usually registered . You know- they have a birth certificate, National insurance number, a record they exist?…

This is quite different from someone who enters the UK without any record of them entering here or the UK authorities knowing they are hear.

I've got friends from the States pinging me saying its all over the internet, images of 5 anti immigrant protestors with what looks like 100's of anti racists surrounding them.

I think they need a new strategy leader.

Set up what? To show that there are way, way more people willing to stand up to Tommy Robinson and co than there are on his side?

Bit difficult to claim that you are the voice of the people when more people are turning up with signs saying otherwise and you have to go home.

The police weren’t there because of the threat of organised violence from the counter protesters. There was very little violence from the counter protestors. They outnumbered the anti immigration protesters/rioters heavily and the threat of further unrest was minimised by their presence it would seem.

It was a step in the right direction for this country I think, and it’s telling that some people seem to oppose it.

The overwhelming population of this country are civilised, decent, tolerant human beings who want to live their lives in peace. The insidious justying comments on here about the racist thugs behaviour is even more worrying than the behaviour of the thugs themselves.

The danger I suppose is that they just hit targets with last-minute protests organised word-of-mouth, giving police and counter protestors no time to pre-empt them. But the harsh crackdowns, remands etc are having an effect no doubt.

we’ve been warned of an impending mosque/asylum hotel attack planned for Friday. It may or may not happen.
but it does mean huge amounts of concern in the community and people who are understandably anxious if not panicking, let’s not minimise by saying ‘four people turned up looking far rightish’. It’s not that simple.

My friend works in A&E. When some were taken in with injuries at the weekend they refused to be treated by anyone who wasn't white and British. They were hurling abuse at any non-white staff who even walked past the room. Disgusting!

The most logical answer is that the far right are cowards who are happy smashing up cars when they get the drop on some outnumbered, innocent and fearful civilians, but don't want anything to do with it when they are confronted by people in sufficient numbers to stand up to them. I would bet they saw the counter protests and just didn't fancy it
