Alison Hammond weight loss isn’t just cutting out sugar

Hello! I think Alison Hammond is fab and she looks amazing having lost I believe close to 8 stone!

However she said she has cut out sugar and that’s how she has done it. She also has a PT I follow her on Instagram and she posts a lot, I’ve seen one PT session.

I wish celebrities would be honest about their weight loss and how they did it, I think she’s probably used a weight loss drug, I would love to be able to afford a weight loss drug but I can’t.

In the bbc news story about people getting dangerously ill from buying dodgy semiglutide (sp) doctors said whenever there’s a celeb story about it they get a surge of patients asking about weight loss drugs. So if she has used it and had a positive result it might actually be quite responsible not to publicise it.

User364837 · 31/07/2024 21:02

I also think it is possible she’s done it with keto or similar (cutting out sugar and drastically reducing all carbs)

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 21:09

Oprah owned it as did Sharon Osborne. All I’m saying is own it.

But you have absolutely no idea that there is anything to ‘own’.

Re PP

Obviously being in the public eye she's forced to say something about the fact she's obviously lost weight

Otherwise you know people will be saying all sorts of things that aren't true

No one gets to 49 and the perimenopausal years after being overweight for all of their adult life, and suddenly loses many stones by “just” cutting out sugar.

Sadly, sugar does account for a lot of fat - and almost all Type 2 diabetes.

I don't have sugary drinks or eat sweets but am a sucker for biscuits. I demolish a pack of digestives or Rich Tea biscuits in two days and, without fail, there's 1kg more of me afterwards.

If you normally eat quite a few biscuits, cake or sweets, think of the difference cutting them out would make!

TraceyDeacy · 31/07/2024 21:18

I often want to start a thread asking why there are any fat rich people at all, but I never quite have the guts to do it (because it is an insensitive, thoughtless question, too), but weightloss is surely easier if you have money, isn’t it?

So is buying delicious food and eating out many nights a weeks, I imagine. 😂 I do think we’ll see a lot less obese rich people now though with Ozempic and the like.

You say you can't afford the weight loss injections but you save a fortune in food, so it kinda balances out.

Yes I admit I am jealous but I’m telling you now no one loses 8 stone on just cutting out sugar

I lost 5 by doing just that.

Izzynohopanda · 31/07/2024 21:25

Alison Hammond has been on dieting programmes previously. She was in Series two off Celebrity Fit Club, and also Sugar Free Farm, where she lost two stone by cutting out sugar.

I lost a lot of weight cutting out sugar (like even avoiding certain types of fruit) AND calories counting. I do think that cutting down on sugar is important for losing weight. Now I struggle with some high sugar foods - like a doughnut makes me feel quite unwell, so I usually only eat half of one at a time. Unfortunately not super skinny though now, despite this!

Garlickest · 31/07/2024 21:26

@TraceyDeacy, I remember collapsing in gales of cruel laughter when I found out that big stars - the female ones, at least - book themselves into hospitals for a week before high-profile events, where they pay to be kept semi-conscious on a drip for several days so they come out looking skinny and well rested 😳

Of course this is wrong! You lose weight from being in a calorie deficit, exercise has nothing to do with that. If she cut out sugar then she would most likely be under her calorie allowance

Precisely. It’s like Celebs are all using the same amazing PT.. funny how it all coincides with the discovery of ozempic.

It’s really not as simple as one article makes out - ‘exercise and you will lose weight’ - this simply isn’t true. If you’re exercising and still not in a calorie deficit you won’t lose weight, it’s as simple as that. You’d have to do hours of exercise in order to not worry about what you’re eating. It’s 90% diet, 10% exercise.

Yeah, see I’m in the camp of let singers be singers and don’t expect them to be lifestyle icons as well.

We can be in different camps.

It says a one-hour run uses 600 calories! That's fish & chips! Or nine digestives, in my case. You can't say it's "calories in, calories out" in one breath, then say exercise makes no difference in the next. Exercise = calories out. And that's without the more complicated addition of elevated heat output from an exercised body.

Izzynohopanda · 31/07/2024 22:52

I thought diet made up 80% of weight loss, and exercise 20%. The good thing about exercise, though is that it tones your body so you may stand up straighter etc, so appear slimmer, even though you’re not.

Rumpoleoftheballet · 31/07/2024 23:02

She can't have cut out sugar because just last week she was on there eating donuts!

Ah yes because one tv doughnut is known to entirely stop weight loss even when you've cut out the other 95% of sugar.

When you publicly shout from the roof tops about your weight loss and post left right and centre BSing pple that it’s cutting out sugar when it’s a lot more.

I tried ozempic for 3 months I lost a lot of weight but got poorly on it.

But you don't know this and I can tell you that weight loss injections and drugs aren't a quick fix.

Bariatric Surgery is the thing that leads to weight dropping very quickly and she's not had that.

All other methods require a lot of hard work, willpower and determination. You assume a lot but have no idea how difficult it is for her to be consistent.

OurDoorz · 01/08/2024 06:49

For some people, weight loss jabs are a miracle cure. My DH has got them on the NHS and has lost a stone so far in about 3 weeks with, as he tells me, absolutely zero willpower. He's eating much smaller portions (less than half what he used to), gets full really easily and just doesn't care about food anymore. And he's still just on a low dose.

Before he was prescribed them, I tried them by buying privately. I used them for 3 months, lost nearly a stone in total over that time, but had terrible side effects and had to quit (and gained the weight right back). DH has very few side effects so far, just a tiny bit of nausea.

Allison Hammond probably has cut out sugar as well as being on the jabs. But it's the jabs that have enabled her to easily change her diet and the lack of sugar combined with eating much less in general have led to weight loss.

If cutting out sugar puts you in a calorie deficit then that’s the definition of how to lose weight
