Alison Hammond weight loss isn’t just cutting out sugar

Hello! I think Alison Hammond is fab and she looks amazing having lost I believe close to 8 stone!

However she said she has cut out sugar and that’s how she has done it. She also has a PT I follow her on Instagram and she posts a lot, I’ve seen one PT session.

I wish celebrities would be honest about their weight loss and how they did it, I think she’s probably used a weight loss drug, I would love to be able to afford a weight loss drug but I can’t.

As I said I have lost four stone cutting out all sugars (except fruit) and going low fat. It was quite amazing how the weight dropped off. I think people don’t want to admit that this is a possible way to lose weight because it takes a lot of willpower and your whole diet needs adjustment. However it does work. Nobody noticed it in the beginning so maybe this is true for Alison too?

A friend has lost about two stone on the injections over 2-3 months.

How long has AH said this weight loss has occurred? If it were over a year, I think that’s feasible to loose eight stone, but than a year, no chance.

But you don't know this and I can tell you that weight loss injections and drugs aren't a quick fix.

Bariatric Surgery is the thing that leads to weight dropping very quickly and she's not had that.

All other methods require a lot of hard work, willpower and determination. You assume a lot but have no idea how difficult it is for her to be consistent.

If you knew anything about WSL you would know that it doesnt drop off quick for everyone and its incredibly hard work, harder work than anyone can imagine.

For some people, weight loss jabs are a miracle cure. My DH has got them on the NHS and has lost a stone so far in about 3 weeks with, as he tells me, absolutely zero willpower. He's eating much smaller portions (less than half what he used to), gets full really easily and just doesn't care about food anymore. And he's still just on a low dose.

Before he was prescribed them, I tried them by buying privately. I used them for 3 months, lost nearly a stone in total over that time, but had terrible side effects and had to quit (and gained the weight right back). DH has very few side effects so far, just a tiny bit of nausea.

Allison Hammond probably has cut out sugar as well as being on the jabs. But it's the jabs that have enabled her to easily change her diet and the lack of sugar combined with eating much less in general have led to weight loss.

Quite isn’t the point of the injections that they override the hunger cravings. So no willpower required.

I agree. It's easy to say any of the following:

I'm just eating much less in general than I used to.

I've started putting all my meals on tiny plates

I only eat between 12 noon and 7pm

I've cut down to two meals a day and no snacking

I've given up bread/sugar/alcohol/chocolate

I focus on protein and vegetables and don't eat many carbs

and any one of those things would certainly help you to lose weight. A combination of several of them would really help. But if it's the Ozempic that has enabled you to to do that because:

a) you aren't often hungry

b) you don't really care what you eat, food is just least interesting and a means to an end

c) when you do eat, you get full really quicky

then it's actually the Ozempic that's making you lose the weight. Because without it the other things would not be happening, at least not without enormous amounts of willpower and commitment and a sense of deprivation.

It's a bit like having a gastric band and then telling people you lost 8 stone because you started eating teeny tiny portions of food. Well it's true I suppose, but it's not The Truth.

I've lost 2 stone in 7 months. I have not had the fast and fabulous miracle experience that many have had. It's been frustratingly slow, and it took three months of wasted time on the lower doses to get off the ground at all. But I am still plugging away, never losing more than 1lb a week, but I figure that if I keep this up for another six months I'll be at my goal and it will have been worth it.

ItsAlrightDarling · 01/08/2024 12:20

I’ve no idea why people are so bothered about other people’s weight. Why does it matter to you how much space she takes up on the planet? It’s one of the least interesting things about most people.
If people weren’t so often judged on their weight, whether they’ve gained any, whether they’ve lost any, their methods for losing it, their likelihood of keeping it off, etc etc, they might be more willing to be open about it all. As it is, I completely understand why people share as little as possible.

henlake7 · 01/08/2024 12:26

idk, I feel like Alison Hammond would be the type to just come out and say if she was having the injections.
Maybe she did do it the old fashioned way?

Ive lost over 100Ibs in a year and a half just through diet and exercise. What worked for me was a whole food plant based diet and regular exercise.
I wouldnt be interested in anything that restricted me to tiny meals, only eating certain times or had potential side effects.
I just fill my plate several times a day with tons of fruit, veg, pulses and other good stuff!😄

No one gets to 49 and the perimenopausal years after being overweight for all of their adult life, and suddenly loses many stones by “just” cutting out sugar.

I was 49 when I cut out sugar and lost lots of weight. It massively helped with the peri symptoms too. I think a lot of people use menopause as an excuse. It can be done if you put your mind to it. (saying this as someone who really needs to do that.

ItsAlrightDarling · 31/07/2024 20:26

There is no ‘just’ about cutting our sugar, have you ever tried it? It’s actually a fairly big lifestyle change for most.

I have, it’s not that big a deal unless you were mainlining Greggs as your daily diet.

Never had a Greggs in my life, but sugar is in a lot of things 🤷🏻‍♀️. And it’s quite clear that Allison Hammond was eating a lot of sugar, so cutting it out would have a big impact on her.

notacooldad · 01/08/2024 15:37

I'm not sure why slebs don't admit to ozempic and similar. Because even if they aren't using it we all assume they are.
we all won't assume that. For many people it's not that deep. I think a lot of people would just think. Alison"s lost a lot of weight. She looks great' and that's it.
She is just someone from the tv who has been on a diet. She hasn't made any unreasonable claims so why not just be happy fir her rather than picking apart what she says.

Pinkpeanut27 · 01/08/2024 18:16

I think it’s possible ! I cut out processed carbs and lost 2 stone in 4 months ! Taking me to a man almost dangerous bmi of 16.5 - so I had no real weight to lose .

have you tried cutting out sugar in all its forms ? It’s not easy but it can be done . As you give up
sigar you also basically give up biscuits , cakes , most processed foods , a lot of takeaway fruit ! Juice and smoothies .
so you cut out a lot of associated calories as sugar is in everything so it’s not just added sugar !

Jaydexx · 01/08/2024 18:24

I was a size 22 at Christmas 2022 and I’ve just bought a pair of size 14 jeans which fit me with room in too. I am not sure how much weight I’ve lost exactly but it’s quite a lot. All I did is stop eating snacks and fizzy drinks and cook a home made meal everyday. I did go gym for around 4 months consistently last year but stopped and continued to loose weight after that. So it is possible to loose weight especially if your already bigger just by not eating sugar definitely 👍

Yes I admit I am jealous but I’m telling you now no one loses 8 stone on just cutting out sugar

Most very overweight people are eating way more sugar than they should. Sugar isn't just sweet stuff, it's bread, pasta, potato, rice, carrots etc. The standard mainstream 'plate' with half the food being a carbohydrate source is a massive amount of sugar. Add in fruit (especially fruit juice/smoothies) crisps, biscuits, cakes and all the other snacks stuff most people eat daily, and you have a significant level of 'sugar' consumption. So, cut all that out, and yes, you can lose 8 stone (especially if you are 8 stone overweight)

Exactly.

Although I’m pretty sure the benefits of a carrot outweigh the carbs.

Movinghouseatlast · 01/08/2024 18:36

She probably did cut out sugar, but Wegovy allowed her to do that.

I lost weight by eating 1000 calories a day and not eating carbs. I couldn't have done that without Wegovy because I would have been climbing the walls with hunger.

Or she cut out sugar because she got to a point where her desire to lose weight overrode her love of food? That is what has happened for me.

Erm yes they really do. You are clearly ignorant about nutrition and weight loss. I don't think you realise how much sugar and saturated fats are in a lot of food when you calorie count you realise how little your body needs to survive. 3 meals a day is not necessary.

Runninggirls26 · 01/08/2024 19:03

I haven’t read all replies so apologies if repeating. Cutting out sugar includes carbs so it is possible to lose a lot of weight quickly this way. I know this because I had gestational diabetes and there is sugar in all carbs- bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, vegetables and fruit. To manage the condition without medication I ate so little carbs I ended up weighing the same amount at the end of my pregnancy as I did at the start (and I went full term) So if AH has truly cut out all sugar then there would be dramatic weight loss

Of course she’s used weight loss drugs 😄 all these years she’s struggled with her weight and now suddenly just by ‘cutting out sugar’ she’s found the miracle to weight loss - her and many other celebs OP

I agree.

A bit like those celebrities who say they haven't done anything ( botox, fillers, facelifts etc ) with their faces apart from using some cosmetic anti aging cream they are promoting 🙄

Hmm1234 · 01/08/2024 19:37

Yes it’s obvious she’s had so much medical procedures and even a face lift

MarvellousMonsters · 01/08/2024 19:45

@Wantitalltogoaway
"Although I’m pretty sure the benefits of a carrot outweigh the carbs."

You get the same benefits from broccoli or green beans, without the carbs. So if you're reducing sugars for weightloss you avoid the carrots and eat the leafy veg.

Ilovecleaning · 01/08/2024 19:58

My first thought ‘was it buggery just cutting out sugar. ‘
However, if she literally cut out all foods containing sugar she would not be eating: sugar in tea/coffee, alcohol, cakes, biscuits, ice cream, chocolate . If she’d been eating a lot of this stuff, yes, she would be losing weight.
But what about butter, oil, cheese? You can’t shovel these in and lose weight.
