Alison Hammond weight loss isn’t just cutting out sugar

Hello! I think Alison Hammond is fab and she looks amazing having lost I believe close to 8 stone!

However she said she has cut out sugar and that’s how she has done it. She also has a PT I follow her on Instagram and she posts a lot, I’ve seen one PT session.

I wish celebrities would be honest about their weight loss and how they did it, I think she’s probably used a weight loss drug, I would love to be able to afford a weight loss drug but I can’t.

OP posts:

I lost 10 stone in 10 months all by myself. No pt. I've put it all back on over 10 years but I did lose it. I didn't cut sugar but I cut most other food groups so sugar was low by default. No dairy, no meat, no gluten and no substitutions to these. I basically ate salmon, veg, fruit and rice

AuCo44 · 31/07/2024 18:53

Maybe she's doing a VLCD - they are renowned for shifting lots of weight very quickly. The PT will be needed to shape up as she slims down. I think she looks marvellous, however she's achieving it. Why are weight loss injections seen as cheating? It's the remedy for obesity that overweight people have been waiting for. A friend of mine who weighed over 25 stone has halved her bodyweight in 7 months using Mounjaro.

Which is why you put it all back on 😵‍💫

Cutting sugar out only works if your diet begore was appalling.

Applesonthelawn · 31/07/2024 18:47

I agree with you. It is unlikely that after a lifetime of overeating, she suddenly discovered self discipline. There is no shame in weight loss drugs at all. She should own it. Far more help to other people that way. We are developing stigma around weight loss methods now and that's frankly ridiculous.

She can’t own it if she didn’t use it fgs!

People think I have Botox. I don’t. I’m not going to say I do just to make them feel better.

I understand why you say that but there's been other factors involved. I became a full time carer for a relative and the strains of that have meant I've put myself bottom of the list

elliejjtiny · 31/07/2024 19:05

I find if I go low carbs/sugar I lose a lot. Only problem is I really like carbs and sugar.

8 stone, or 112 pounds, over 4 years works out at 2.34 pounds lost per month. To achive that, she'd need a 8190 calorie deficit a month, or 264-292 calorie deficit a day.
That's very realistic by cutting out sugar when you're starting from a place where you can lose 8 stone. It's a doughnut. Or two and a half chocolate hobnobs.
I've started from lighter than Alison's starting point before and lost 4 stone in about a year and a half mostly by massively cutting down on sugar and walking more.
She might have used a weight loss drug but what she's done is absolutely possible without them.

Yes I have a teacher friend who gained weight after starting a new school and she said the only thing that had changed was biscuits in the staff room! 😂

Yes I admit I am jealous but I’m telling you now no one loses 8 stone on just cutting out sugar

Because she probably means cutting all sources of added sugar inc all the high calorie, nutrient poor, less filling (ie easy to eat in huge portions) junk food - that would help cut a lot of calories from the diet.

I think in her case, it's not just sugar in its raw form, but chocolate, cakes etc

Cutting out those foods, along with a healthy diet and exercise can bring about a huge weight loss if its consistent.

Injections and drugs are not a miracle cure to weight loss, so I don't think you should speculate when you don't know the facts.

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 31/07/2024 19:14

How do you think peoole managed large weight loss before the availability of drugs OP? Her health scare may have provided a new motivation that wasn't there at previous attempts. It's absolutely possible, if you are very overweight.

Cotonsugar · 31/07/2024 19:16

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:14

It does matter because she’s widely known and respected and she’s saying falsely how she did it.

Alison isn’t private she posts everything on her insta from her new house to her new fella.

Reminds me of when Fern Britton first started losing weight many years ago and she said she was eating a bit less and was cycling a bit more. Sometime later she admitted having bariatric surgery.

Mongrelsrbeautiful · 31/07/2024 19:17

letsjustdothis · 31/07/2024 18:18

Anyone who genuinely thinks these people - who have been severely obese for years and yo yo'd a few stone off here and there over decades - have suddenly realised sugar is bad and discovered vegetables and personal trainers and lost a ton of weight and kept it all off because of that is incredibly naive.

They aren't lying, they are probably going to the gym and eating less sugar. But it's not the reason for the loss.

If you have never been morbidly obese you don't know how hard it is to lose 8 stone and keep it off. It's not as easy as just cutting out sugar because it's mentally very different.

Edited

You can't speak for every previously morbidly obese person.

Well they do?

They might also have had weight loss injections or even surgery. But part of that is eating differently.

Or do you think that people just have the injections, eat the same but lose the weight anyway?

What do you think causes people to drop weight? They eat fewer calories.

StaunchMomma · 31/07/2024 19:23

It's not anyone's business, at the end of the day.

It is sad that nobody can lose weight now without the accusations starting.

Gilbertwasawuss · 31/07/2024 19:25

I've completely cut sugar and carbs and I am losing weight rapidly. No ozempic.

Pickingmyselfup · 31/07/2024 19:35

I don't see why it can't be possible, I've lost a couple of stone by eating less and doing more exercise.

I've had several people come up to me over the last few days and ask how I've done it like they were in awe. I told them it was a battle and it was hard work but ultimately I ate less, ran more and did more weight lifting as well as changing my work hours so I could walk the kids to school and back.

It's been difficult, I've lost some, put some back on and lost it again. I've had days where I've eaten barely nothing and days where I've binged. Days where I've done sod all and days where I never stopped. It's been a marathon not a sprint, started in 2022, was close to target summer last year and I'm still not quite at target because I'm not willing to cut something out completely or go too low in calories.

It's entirely possible to lose 8 stone by cutting something out especially if you don't replace it with something equally high in calories. If I cut out cheese, alcohol and carbs I would struggle to overeat thus I would lose weight.

Wellieswithsocks · 31/07/2024 19:36

They are all at it! Overweight celebrities will soon be a thing of the past

coldcallerbaiter · 31/07/2024 19:38

She crammed a donut in her mouth pretty much in one go the other day on TV.

Garlickest · 31/07/2024 19:47

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:15

Exactly and it was quick

How quick? Apparently she's been at it for four years. As well as ditching sugar, she walks miles and trains really hard.

Sorry to break it to you, but this absolutely IS the natural way to lose weight and improve your health.

GinandGingerBeer · 31/07/2024 19:49

I think you've misunderstood what 'cutting out sugar means'
It absolutely does work. If you stick to it.
I lost 3 stones in a very short space of time doing it (and I only had that to lose compared to AH who started from a heavier weight)
That was in 2013. I've mostly kept it off bar half a stone I boing up and down with. That last half stone was a bugger to shift as is always the case as you get towards your target.

EllieLeo · 31/07/2024 19:49

I did a VLCD for 12 weeks and then moved onto a high protein, low carb, no sugar way of eating and lost 6 stone in a year. I have kept it off.

To maintain it, I do the high protein/low carb/no sugar five days a week and eat relatively sensibly but less strictly the other two days.

I tried for years to lose weight before this but for some reason, it clicked and I managed to stick to the lifestyle changes.

Divasaurus · 31/07/2024 19:50

Does it really matter? I suspect she probably has used weightloss injections but doesn’t want to admit it as there is so much spite and negativity around them… which this thread proves! Also, if you had actually tried them (I am on Mounjaro) you would know that they aren’t a magic bullet. You don’t suddenly lose eight stone overnight. You still have to completely overhaul your diet to lose weight - the medication just makes it easier to do that. It’s taken me the best part of two years to lose in excess of four stone and I have worked bloody hard, Mounjaro or not!

ItsAlrightDarling · 31/07/2024 19:50

Just looked her up on Instagram and she looks fab so fair play to her, whatever her methods.

ItsAlrightDarling · 31/07/2024 19:51

How do you think you lose weight on weight loss injections, out of interest OP? You lose it by consuming fewer calories than you burn.
