I live in Sheffield. I think we are bottom of the North. Nottingham and Derbyshire which touch on us are Midlands.

Manchester is north but is Cheshire?

Manchester is the divide for me.

And how would you stretch that boundary across the country?

I grew up in Portsmouth. Everywhere was ‘up North’.

I'm in South Yorkshire too @ArseInTheCoOpWindow I agree with you - I think of Notts/Derbyshire as edging into the Midlands- Birmingham def so. I suppose it's all down to perspective - London people probably see Birmingham as oop north and Scottish people see us in Yorkshire as down South

Sheffield/Rotherham is the start of the north (of England) for me. Conscious that for Scotland everywhere is south!

Agree with you OP, I'm in North notts and we're top end of the Midlands. Ten minutes up the road into Yorkshire is the north.

South of Sheffield on the Yorkshire boundary is where the north (of England) stops. I'm being generous to Sheffield there.

My brother lives in the Western Isles and Edinburgh is South, to him.

For England, Liverpool is south, Manchester is North. Geographically.

I live in South Yorkshire. Best friend lives just over the border into Nottinghamshire. It amuses me that we live in the North and they live in the South...

Basically anything south of Yorkshire is the South.

I think I'd draw a line from the mouth of the Humber (ish). Doncaster-Manchester neck of the woods.

Geordie here. For me the North ends at Durham. I class anything else as the south!

You have the North, then the Midlands, then the South.

I agree with Sheffield being the start of the North but living a few miles south of Sheffield I feel more Northern than Midlands.
