TAAT. Where does the north end?

Where?

Sheffield? Birmingham? Below the Humber, Lincolnshire?????

I live in Sheffield. I think we are bottom of the North. Nottingham and Derbyshire which touch on us are Midlands.

Manchester is north but is Cheshire?

Manchester is the divide for me.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/07/2024 21:01

And how would you stretch that boundary across the country?

Crewe

Cheshire has Granada TV/BBC North West

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/07/2024 21:03

Hull? Sheffield?

when on the m6 Sandbach services area

Numbersarefun · 13/07/2024 21:04

Driving up the A1, it takes ages to reach ‘The North’!!
I grew up in Portsmouth. Everywhere was ‘up North’.

mrsfollowill · 13/07/2024 21:04

I'm in South Yorkshire too @ArseInTheCoOpWindow I agree with you - I think of Notts/Derbyshire as edging into the Midlands- Birmingham def so. I suppose it's all down to perspective - London people probably see Birmingham as oop north and Scottish people see us in Yorkshire as down South Grin

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 13/07/2024 21:05

Sheffield/Rotherham is the start of the north (of England) for me. Conscious that for Scotland everywhere is south!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 13/07/2024 21:05

Agree with you OP, I'm in North notts and we're top end of the Midlands. Ten minutes up the road into Yorkshire is the north.

Gymmum82 · 13/07/2024 21:06

Birmingham is the divide anything further north is north

NoDishiRishi · 13/07/2024 21:06

Birmingham.

Lifeinlists · 13/07/2024 21:06

South of Sheffield on the Yorkshire boundary is where the north (of England) stops. I'm being generous to Sheffield there.

My brother lives in the Western Isles and Edinburgh is South, to him.

BruceWillissDribble · 13/07/2024 21:06

Dont you mean where does it start?

Ifailed · 13/07/2024 21:07

For England, Liverpool is south, Manchester is North. Geographically.

Dont you mean where does it start?

Yeah l guess l do😁

Yeah I’d put Sheffield in the edge.

Someone in another thread is saying Lincolnshire is North

AdaColeman · 13/07/2024 21:08

The True North begins at Scotch Corner.

But many Southerners would say the North begins after the Watford Gap, as road signs confirm!

LibertyDuck · 13/07/2024 21:08

Thurso.

PuttingDownRoots · 13/07/2024 21:08

I live in South Yorkshire. Best friend lives just over the border into Nottinghamshire. It amuses me that we live in the North and they live in the South...

BruceWillissDribble · 13/07/2024 21:09

Basically anything south of Yorkshire is the South.

Watercoloursky · 13/07/2024 21:09

I think I'd draw a line from the mouth of the Humber (ish). Doncaster-Manchester neck of the woods.

Toottooot · 13/07/2024 21:10

Stonehaven. Dundee at a push.

littlecreeature · 13/07/2024 21:13

Geordie here. For me the North ends at Durham. I class anything else as the south!

BigDahliaFan · 13/07/2024 21:14

Yeah about Sheffield…and no way is Lincolnshire’the north’, north of where the poster is….but not The North.

BruceWillissDribble · 13/07/2024 21:15

You have the North, then the Midlands, then the South.

I agree with Sheffield being the start of the North but living a few miles south of Sheffield I feel more Northern than Midlands.
