TAAT. Where does the north end?

Where?

Sheffield? Birmingham? Below the Humber, Lincolnshire?????

I live in Sheffield. I think we are bottom of the North. Nottingham and Derbyshire which touch on us are Midlands.

Manchester is north but is Cheshire?

I live near Newcastle. For us, the north is Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham and North Yorkshire.

The midlands start at Manchester and go down to about south of Birmingham and then you have the South.

Birmingham isn't in the North. It's in the Midlands - West Midlands specifically.

I moved south as a teenager and find it funny that anyone who thinks anything further than the Watford Gap is 'Oooop North'!

I would consider Newcastle, York and Liverpool to be 'Oooop North'.

This sums it up.

Anything north of Birmingham is the North.

Don't think anyone in Manchester has ever considered themselves part of the Midlands.

Timeturnerplease · 13/07/2024 21:38

I grew up in Lincolnshire, and we never considered ourselves the North.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/07/2024 21:40

Manchester in the Midlands?!😲

Manchester is proper north. They say bath not barth.

After Tebay services on the M6. It's one of our regular stopping places when we go to Mull from Bristol.

However if I lived in Penzance then the north would probably start at Bristol.

Triangle24 · 13/07/2024 21:40

I'm north notts/Sheffield and have family in Brighton. They swear down that the south starts at Peterborough! Anything this end of A1 is t north!

Livinginaclock · 13/07/2024 21:41

I'd say Manchester on the west, Yorkshire on the east,I'm from the North, Durham.

Werweisswohin · 13/07/2024 21:42

The North of where?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/07/2024 21:43

Ah right, it just said 'the north'.

That's because they don't live in Northumberland. The North doesn't extend from Birmingham up to Berwick upon Tweed and yet, according to some people, it does.

I live quite a long way up north. I think the south starts at York 😂

I went on holiday to Northumberland once. I swear it was actually as north as Norway it was so cold.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow based on the weather today I can confirm that, sometimes even in the summer, it’s like living in a fridge…

Draw a line from Chester across to Boston in Lincolnshire.

Doggymummar · 13/07/2024 21:50

I'm northern, from Grimsby. I would say north of Peterborough is Northern. Most if my family is from Nottinghamshire, definitely Northern. Interesting question

We're tough up here. Geordie lasses go out practically naked on their nights out 😂

Haveanaiceday · 13/07/2024 21:51

I live on the South Coast, we think anything across the Downs is getting a bit Northern but definitely anything past Croydon.
