In search of old-fashioned loo roll...(title edited by MNHQ at request of OP)

I am deeply weird and hate quilted toilet roll. I hope I’m using the right term. It’s what most stuff is like now - embossed and thick. I just want boring old plain loo roll. Until recently I was making trips to Waitrose just to buy their Essentials stuff but it’s just changed. I find it hard to tell in shops when you get packaging that isn’t transparent but I haven’t seen any obvious plain old-fashioned rolls for quite a while.

Can anyone tell me if it still exists and where?

Please note, I am not a troll and have no interest in what anyone does with the stuff!

Softness sounds good! The Sainburys stuff is a bit harsh for my terribly delicate behind.

I also long for the loo roll of old. It is one of those constant, low-level, nagging disappointments that I can no longer find a decent loo roll. Soft, not embossed, 2-ply, and doesn’t leave you covered in teeny balls of paper.

I have daily digestive issues after gallbladder removal, and want something that isn’t like carpet, that doesn’t disintegrate, and that isn’t more than 2-ply (because we have old Victorian drains and 3-ply loo roll blocks them too easily).

I know exactly what you are talking about! The only loo roll, we would use was Waitrose Essential until they recently changed the formula. I've been searching for a non-quilted, non-embossed (I absolutely hate embossed!) SOFT toilet paper to no avail! It's obviously about cost, but I hate that there is no option for a better quality paper - I would definitely pay more for a quality paper - oh to have the choice... I'm pretty sure the royals and celebs don't use the rough, thin crap on offer! Nothing on the market deserves the Royal Seal, Andrex included!!!

NO WAY......... Has anyone seen the daily mail.... praise the lord !!! waitrose have listened and are bringing back the ORIGINAL rolls. Available in stores late january. See everyone in the toilet roll isles at the weekend

What brilliant news! I’ll be happy to go back to Waitrose toilet rolls again. I’ve been using Sainsburys Softer paper since the Waitrose paper went downhill, but can’t wait to go back to the old Waitrose paper!

OMG!!! This news about Waitrose is FANTASTIC! I’m so pleased we have had our gripes listened too. Can’t wait to check it out but still have quite a stock of Whisper to get through! But def more convenient to get it from Waitrose although think Whisper might be quite a bit cheaper! Will investigate and post my findings!!!

I can't believe how this brought a moment of joy hearing this today. Another here who was upset when Waitrose changed their toilet roll and have been casting around for a good replacement. I shall immediately go back. Phew.
