In search of old-fashioned loo roll...(title edited by MNHQ at request of OP)

I am deeply weird and hate quilted toilet roll. I hope I’m using the right term. It’s what most stuff is like now - embossed and thick. I just want boring old plain loo roll. Until recently I was making trips to Waitrose just to buy their Essentials stuff but it’s just changed. I find it hard to tell in shops when you get packaging that isn’t transparent but I haven’t seen any obvious plain old-fashioned rolls for quite a while.

Can anyone tell me if it still exists and where?

Please note, I am not a troll and have no interest in what anyone does with the stuff!

Aldi does some , just look for the cheapest pack . Its 2 ply and non quilted. Excellent for not blocking up the loo if you have children who use yards of the stuff.

Doubleraspberry · 12/07/2024 00:42

Thanks. I’m a regular in there. Is it soft? I do need softness!

Reporting back that the Aldi stuff is not what I’m after. I want the stuff that is basically like ALL decent loo roll (Andrex etc) was until it started going quilted. I’m suspecting it doesn’t now exist.

I suggest you buy the 'quilted stuff' and spend your evenings, by the fire, (not too close - toilet paper is combustible when dry) pulling it apart.

It's quite therapeutic. I sometimes do it to pass the time whilst sat 'there' waiting for a 'result'.

A major benefit is that you end up with TWO rolls of toilet paper! 😁
(But only one has a cardboard tube) 😒

DilemmaDelilah · 14/07/2024 19:45

Andrex does non-quilted. I prefer the quilted because I think it is softer.

WhereDidItG0 · 14/07/2024 19:47

Maybe you could find out where schools get their toilet roll from? It's probably bulk buy and not quilted.

MarthaJonesPhone · 14/07/2024 19:53

Cheeky Panda bamboo toilet rolls. They were on offer in Waitrose a while back when I couldn't get their Essentials one.

Runnerinthenight · 14/07/2024 19:55

Cushelle do a non-quilted one but I am actually preferring the quilted one, particularly the one that doesn't have a cardboard roll in the centre.

I get the 12-packs of jumbo size Andrex in Tesco. The only paper I allow in our house. Or do you mean the hard shiny stuff from when my parents were kids? Made good tracing paper, smelt medicinal and had 'Jeyes' and NOW WASH YOUR HANDS printed on each piece?

ricecrispiecakes · 14/07/2024 20:04

Tesco "Duck" toilet paper. It says quilted but it's not, really.

BCBird · 14/07/2024 20:07

Asda own brand good. The pack has 6 in but supposed to be equivalent to 12. Recommend.

Andrex do non quilted. I also do not understand the trend for quilted - hate how thick it is

Less danger of a finger going through perhaps?

Doubleraspberry · 14/07/2024 21:55

But are all these non-quilted ones the same as loo roll used to be? Or that weird cheap-feeling paper? I haven’t seen Andrex as it used to be for years for example. No patterns or little dimples. Just plain but soft. So not as rough as the giant rolls in public loos, and not the stuff in boxes you used to play the comb (we had to buy that for when my grandad visited).

i use Andrew regular.
I hate quilted as it blocked my toilet before

user1469095927 · 14/07/2024 22:07

Nicky from Home Bargains is good 👍

Giggorata · 14/07/2024 22:08

We're using Who Gives a Crap loo paper too. It is better quality and lasts a lot longer than anything else I have bought, isn't quilted, is recycled, etc.

LoremIpsumCici · 14/07/2024 22:09

Cushelle make nonquilted

Chocolatehobnobs25 · 14/07/2024 22:10

Another vote for who gives a crap!

EVHead · 14/07/2024 22:10

the stuff in boxes you used to play the comb 😂

LauderSyme · 14/07/2024 22:15

naked sprout bamboo toilet roll is dimpled but not quilted and it is very soft and very eco friendly.

Ours had 'property of the 'appropriate' education authority' on it. I used to wonder if they would like it back!!
