Thread 14 - TalkLair: “What The Hell Are We Supposed To Use, Man? Harsh Language?”

(Previous thread 13).

Summer should be well under way, but the chilly wind, grey clouds and pouring rain beg to differ. Looks like 2024 continues to be a washout - on the bright side, the Tories got washed out too! In the TalkLair, we remain hunkered down keeping cosy and warm. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Do you have a cordless mouse that's running low on battery? That makes absolutely no sense, does it? But I shall not delete it, so that when I'm incarcerated in a secure environment for the terminally bewildered, you'll be able to say you saw it coming.

duc748 · 06/10/2024 20:44

New mouse, as it goes. I don't think it did it from the start.

MouseMinge · 06/10/2024 21:20

Evening all. I'm dull as the dullest dishwater in dullington-on-sea today so there we go. I hope all are well and that's as far as I can go before the dullness overtakes me.

duc748 · 07/10/2024 14:02

It's back!

duc748 · Today 14:02

It's back!

I sometimes get that after scrolling quickly. A couple of clicks on a blank part usually sorts it.

SinnerBoy · 07/10/2024 19:02

Did it work?

duc748 · 07/10/2024 19:10

The mouse has got a 'fast scrolling' button. If I go into that mode, and out again, it seems to sort it. But it's weird it's only on MN.

VictorianBigot · 08/10/2024 17:17

I was looking for datasets and couldn't help but laugh at this. There's nothing there and all the links are dead. I think it's safe to say facts are no longer sacred at the Guardian.

Also, Chris Cross is a fabulous name.

SqueakyDinosaur · 08/10/2024 17:21

If I were Chris Cross, I'd be cross about that.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/10/2024 17:52

Can that really be his real name?

SqueakyDinosaur · 08/10/2024 17:53

Well, given that there is a journalist on the Times called Roger Boyes, yes. Yes, I think it can.

VictorianBigot · 08/10/2024 18:02

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/10/2024 17:52

Can that really be his real name?

It would seem so...

But it looks like he later changed it to Kit Cross

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/10/2024 18:02

Blimey, you have to wonder what his parents were thinking.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 08/10/2024 18:06

I bet that feels better!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 08/10/2024 18:13

Well we all know how inconvenient facts can be. Imagine the havoc that could be caused by having lots of them in the same place.

MouseMinge · 08/10/2024 21:42

I was wondering if it was the same Chris Cross and about to click on links but you saved me the bother, @SinnerBoy

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 09/10/2024 08:01

Surely you remember the American singer from the 70s and 80s:

No, never heard of him.

Gonners · 09/10/2024 08:20

"By far the biggest new star of 1980", eh? And yet somehow he passed me by!

Kucinghitam · 09/10/2024 10:37

How about Kris Kross?

Kris Kristofferson

artant · 09/10/2024 19:38

I used to work with a Joe King. He also worked at an institution that had a Joe Kerr.

artant · 09/10/2024 19:40

And somewhere I worked decades ago had a Miss B Ison. And yes, she worked in the Buffalo office. I was in London but internal phone books of American institutions provide hours of fun on full days (I was working in IT then so there were plenty of dull days).

Kucinghitam · 09/10/2024 19:41

We only have a couple dozen posts to go, so I've started the new thread.
