I wasn't allowed to watch ITV, BBC only! I'm not sure what the reason was.

This! ITV is common (still only watch it for live sport 😂)

Wasn't allowed to throw balls in the house.

We were never allowed pick’n’mix in case we got threadworms from other people touching the sweets

Have had pick’n’mix many times since childhood and no surprises!

Adverts? That was why my mum used to keep our viewing to BBC.

The "pester" advertising targeting children for stuff we couldn't afford was just something she she thought we could do without.

Also wasn’t allowed to speak in the wrong tone of voice, though I never understood what that meant so was always getting it wrong.

We were BBC only because my mum didn't want to have to deal with incessant I wanting!

To little me, it was like a mystery room full of untold illicit treasures.

In reality, it was a pretty sad and lonely room with a comfy chair, a record player, a telly and shelves full of old records. It all stank of smoke and mold.

Oh yes I wasn't allowed to cry either - only times I can remember it being allowed was when someone / a pet died. Otherwise 'no bubbling'
