Looks pretty good to me! What are people's thoughts?

I think he was great in the press conference, came across as business like and serious and notably not promising to commit to anything concrete in a short timeframe.

fedupdontknowwheretoputmyself · 06/07/2024 14:39

He'll be more sensible than the last lot. The last lot would have sold your granny for a few bob then claimed it was your idea 🙈

If he's hoping to recruit more teachers and health workers he's going to have to address the public's appalling standards of parenting and general behaviour though. It's going to be carnage in schools with all the extra private pupils and SEN pupils who've had to leave their private provision. A lot of the SEN and bullied kids won't be able to access any education at all. Interesting times ahead.

Mumteedum · 06/07/2024 14:45

I wish he'd had the weekend off and his team.

It seems so exhausting! Up all night on election night, then a crazy whirlwind of a day yesterday.

Honestly, I would have loved for them to just have a weekend to catch their breath, be with his family and let them settle in to their new life a bit.

I hope his kids will adjust ok..

Maybe I'm a softie but it would be nice to have a more empathetic world all round.

HowIrresponsible · 06/07/2024 14:49

Means testing the state pension- own goal.

Cantgetausername87 · 06/07/2024 14:49

I think his energy is amazing! He's coming across well - not arrogant of his win, getting his team together and cracking the whip really has been impressive.
A real contrast to the last shower - I hope people will give them a fair chance.

BaconBrownSauce · 06/07/2024 15:01

Still waiting for him to announce a Minister for Women, which says it all really.

Not really. It's going to be part of addressing the challenge of an ageing population and low birth rate. If older people have enough to live on why would they need a government hand out?

A chap with a beard in a smashing frock and red stilettos, no doubt 🤨

Life peerage for Izzard to fulfil the brief?!

VolvoFan · 06/07/2024 16:16

I'd like him to direct funds to infertility and recurrent miscarriage. That'll be one way to fix the low birth rate. It's not just inability to afford children, it's actually being able to have them in the first place.

Alas, pigs will fly before that ever happens.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/07/2024 16:16

Did neither of you hear what Rachel Reeve had to say about recognising the work women do?

He's in the legal profession I'm sure he's used to working long days and long weekends.

And did you not hear Angela Rayner say that transwomen are women recently?

^ Yes! I reckon he’s earned his chance.

I read recently that there's a global problem with human fertility. Sperm counts have massively declined ? due to pollution?

ghostyslovesheets · 06/07/2024 16:25

I love the appointment of James Timpson - prisons minister with actual experience of prisons and employment of offenders. I am a huge fan of his family and their business so yay!

The tinfoil answer is because of contraception and hrt as well as hormones used in the farming industry. Residual hormones entering the waterways. I have no hard evidence for this though.

Maddy70 · 06/07/2024 16:28

Hes filled me with hope. Great mature appointments and a sensible approach

IsThePopeCatholic · 06/07/2024 16:29

He and his team are such a breath of fresh air compared to the sleazy Tory lot. I totally trust Keir.

equisetum · 06/07/2024 16:30

@Mumteedum Being PM is not mon to fri 9 to 5.
Surely he knew this before he took the very highly paid job on.

A bit like being in the forces. Ready for anything, at any time. Without the salary!

NoWordForFluffy · 06/07/2024 16:19

This really doesn't bother the majority of women. I couldnt care less if someone identifies as a woman, cat or a house plant

Everyone should be treated with respect

Well, it's an entirely predictable Labour policy but I think it's important to know where they're setting the level before judging too harshly.
