Looks pretty good to me! What are people's thoughts?

I need to see action. Plans commencing and visible solutions on the way. Not body language analysis, his plans, his hopes and yet more babble from them. Till then, I reserve my opinion on Keir. He's just another politician at this time.

CurlewKate · 06/07/2024 16:34

@equisetum "Being PM is not mon to fri 9 to 5.
Surely he knew this before he took the very highly paid job on." Is there any suggestion that he didn't?

I am three years of getting a full state pension having worked for 40 years and am still working part time.

No way would people like me accept that actually after all that saving no state pension for you. We are planning to give it to people that haven’t worked, made poor decisions etc.

This really doesn't bother the majority of women. I couldnt care less if someone identifies as a woman, cat or a house plant

Everyone should be treated with respect

I didn't say they shouldn't. But the Minister for Women should a) be a woman and b) not think men can become women.

HeadNorth · 06/07/2024 16:37

Rwanda plan cancelled - thank goodness we have competent and sensible people back in charge.

Tracker1234 · 06/07/2024 16:37

I actually think the pay isn’t commensurate with the level of responsibility he has and the fact that he will no longer be able to do normal things again without someone stopping him to give him the benefit of their advice as to what he should do next.

He and his team are such a breath of fresh air compared to the sleazy Tory lot. I totally trust Keir.

He has real leadership qualities, expectations and experience unlike Boris.

Really positive to have someone leading the country who can…lead!

PollyPeachum · 06/07/2024 16:43

Eh! What was that about Means Testing before paying pensions? In Old Labour 'Means testing' were non words.

KikiShaLeeBopDeBopBop · 06/07/2024 16:44

Seriously impressive so far. Hope he goes on as he's started.

Thingamebobwotsit · 06/07/2024 16:49

Wasn't convinced pre election but voted tactically. He is impressive so far. Sensible appointments to key posts. Thoughtful people dealing with big portfolios. Came across very statesman like in his press conference. Focus on standards of public life. He will.go down well internationally as he makes the UK look more like a proper grown up nation, rather than the banana Republic it has been in recent years.

Watching closely with a bit more optimism.

I wish he'd had the weekend off and his team.

It seems so exhausting! Up all night on election night, then a crazy whirlwind of a day yesterday.

Honestly, I would have loved for them to just have a weekend to catch their breath, be with his family and let them settle in to their new life a bit.

I hope his kids will adjust ok..

Maybe I'm a softie but it would be nice to have a more empathetic world all round.

Totally agree

God knows how much the whole thing cost the tax payer though.

So a whole weekend for the country without a leader? Not really an option.

I like that he is going to visit the four nations and then go to NATO. It shows that he is serious about governing for everyone.

So far, so great.

Your generation had their fortune in other areas, such as cheap housing. You can't have everything and just let the generation behind you pick up the tab.

The tinfoil answer is because of contraception and hrt as well as hormones used in the farming industry. Residual hormones entering the waterways. I have no hard evidence for this though.

There's official data sheets publicly available of how many ppm are in drinking water... hardly tinfoil fodder

Our generation paid the pensions of the previous generation, and many of us are stuck renting due to low wages in those days. So we have already paid for one generation and it is ludicrous to suggest we shouldn't get a benefit in turn.
Go berate estate agents for constantly hiking prices. I remember Nigel Planer commenting in the '90s about how housing costs increase regardless of the condition of the house, which didn't happen with cars etc.

Means testing the state pension- own goal.

Please can you provide a source for this - I have been following his speeches closely since he was elected Prime Minister and haven't heard this?

You think estate agents are the reason house prices have gone up?

Well I'm paying for your pension, I'm also stuck renting... and will have to retire much older than you....

He’s the prime minister for goodness sake! People who need to sit around settling in don’t really go in for this kind of job.

Stellarcasted · 06/07/2024 17:32

Very happy so far, especially with finally having 50% women appointed.
I thought they said Keir didn't know what a woman was but he seems to have appointed enough to have proper equality right at the top for the first time ever.

Labour may have a large majority but support is shallow and Reform is waiting in the wings. Blair appointed his cabinet on the Monday. It looks as though Sir Keir and team really wanted to drive home the 'rolling up our sleeves and getting on with it' message and that included being even quicker than Blair in getting things moving. So no weekend off. Sir Keir was impressive today - serious, leader-like, focused, no rhetoric - and I hope the tone set today will be maintained.
