That's quite a collection of NI politicians. Have they been forming new parties behind my back? I've only really noticed DUP and Sinn Fein before. I am v ignorant on this.

SF do not sit in Parliament. DUP lost seat to TUV. Alliance gain and SDLP has always been in Parliament.

Thank you placemats.

placemats · 09/07/2024 15:36

It is quite the collection, I agree @newnamethanks but indicative of Northern Irish politics.

To be clear in Northern Ireland Parliamentary elections, it's a first past the post system. Not so for Members of the Legislative Assembly, which is Proportional Representation.

Urgh, Farage. Sucking up to Hoyle then getting a snipe in about Bercow. He is such a slimy toad! (Sorry, a bit behind the rest of you!).

itsgettingweird · 09/07/2024 15:47

I think you’re right. I think they’ll move to the right and it will take another lost election for them to come to their senses.

It's pretty much what happened to Labour and the left.

Starmer has done a brilliant job of turning the party round the past 5 years.

Yes, there are some who wish the Labour party were more left wing. But Starmer read the room and delivered to it.

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/07/2024 15:47

I'm working, so thank you all for keeping me updated on your thoughts.

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2024 15:49

Got myself a Brew and we're back.

It's a bit empty now

Yes, I am one of those, but he did the right thing.

I thought Angela looked great, very comfortable and confident on the front bench.

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2024 15:52

Do you think the Black Rod is doing step counter?

I think that's the punchline to the Archbishop joke.

There’s an actual dent in the door of the HoC where Black Rod knocks. She and her predecessors do not mess around.
As an aside I want a work uniform that includes a sword. Why did nobody in careers lessons tell me this was an option?

NoDishiForRishi · 09/07/2024 15:56

Sunaks having a good look around isn't he? 😂

NoDishiForRishi · 09/07/2024 15:57

Looking out for my MP who's the first Labour MP in this constituency. Gave her a lift in my car last week back to her car because it was teeming down with rain. She's just fantastic.

placemats · 09/07/2024 16:03

Ah new members tomorrow.

Evenstar · 09/07/2024 16:04

We’ve seen our new Labour MP sitting in the row behind the front bench 😊

Hot and humid in the North West

It really is 🥵

and yet still wet.............

Working so thanks for keeping me amused with commentary! Will go back to watch some of the highlights (especially Liz's hair as I'm pink too😍)

placemats · 09/07/2024 16:08

Starmer affirms.

I quite like anonymity, I really don't want ID cards. Happy to have my passport so the government (should ha ha) know who's in the country, but I object to needing ID to vote, and I object to being asked to prove who I am on somebody's whim.

ID cards are a no from me.

See they don't bother me really.

But I wonder if that's because of the fact I was resident in Spain for a number of years and so had a residentia NIE card?

The irony being of course that I can't have one of those now!

I carry my driving licence on me most days so no I can't see a problem either.
