Damp and cool in Wales, as per usual.

Damp and humid down south central

I'm working, so thank you all for keeping me updated on your thoughts.

I just got home and caught up before taking ds training.

I LOVE the way you all write - I can picture what I missed 😂

itsgettingweird · 09/07/2024 16:18

IClaudine** that's one of the reason I love this thread. We all have political agreements and differences and discuss them calmly and effectively.

I'm a very centric voter but lean slightly to left of it and in places probably a little right.

I was not a fan of Corbyn but have seen why many were. Starmer is great for me but I also understand many Labour voters aren't happy where he sits.

But politics is for the nation and not for us personally. These threads are great to discuss the pro and cons of decisions and I learn so much - and also change my stance so much because everyone explains and listens.

Piggywaspushed · 09/07/2024 16:21

I keep thinking of the Timewarp when you lot go on about Starmer going to the right.

I'd love it if they all did the Timewarp.

placemats · 09/07/2024 16:23

Victoria Atkins forgot her handbag and lightly skipped back in to retrieve it. Just love those little moments.

I'd love it if they all did the Timewarp.

When they are all in the house there just isn’t room for choreography sadly.

was it on this thread someone suggested Starmer institute minimum attendance requirements in the House and in constituency surgeries on a Friday? With maybe an ‘authorised absence’ category for illness/personal crisis/government work? Seeing them all there I thought that would be an excellent idea. So much more representative if everyone is at least on the estate. it might also concentrate their minds on moving to more suitable accommodation where the whole Parliament can realistically attend.

Anotehr thought - those of you who saw Prif Weinidog’s questions before - what a different at o sphere from PMQs. As a Welsh person I’ve noted this before, but I’m guessing for a lot of you that was a first look. So much more respectful and Gething actually answering questions, not point scoring while the Senedd actually listened to him.

Properly segregated cycle and pedestrian infrastructure is a must.

While I totally agree, remember the danger of isolating pedestrians from all traffic and creating huge runs that are a muggers/rapists paradise.

Was thinking more stuff like this. Rather than just sticking a line down a pavement or a very narrow lane on the side of a main road.

I think that too often it’s an afterthought in the U.K. even though if you provide safe routes for active transport people will use them.

Do the Dutch create ‘shared use’ pavements like us?

There was a small bit of back-and-forth in the comments under my piece about attitudes to ‘surrendering’ the roads in UK cycling campaigning, principally about the usefulness of the Hie…

I thought Angela looked great, very comfortable and confident on the front bench.

The Mail Online is amusing ...

She was pretty good on the opposition front benches too. But more so on the government front benches naturally

O bloody hell. Looking at Farage makes me think that David Icke's reptile theory may have some truth to it.

Don't be mean to reptiles.

I wonder if Diane Abbott has a health condition that makes her shake slightly, certainly looks that way.

I thought that too. It was quite noticeable. She's been through so much yet keeps soldiering on.

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/07/2024 17:33

Need to find all this on catchup. Might have to resort to parliament tv.

The Dutch way of doing cycle paths generally works very, very well. On roads where traffic lights are involved, they often have their own traffic lights and the timings of those are coordinated with those of the automotive traffic, so that there is a clear slot of time for cyclists to cross and manoeuvre. It can absolutely be done.

cardibach · 09/07/2024 15:19

Couldn’t manage respect for 2 mins then, Farage?

Edited

It's almost as if he can't help himself. Everyone else was very respectful but he just can't seem to crawl out of the gutter.

NoDishiForRishi · 09/07/2024 15:21

Oooh! I love her hair! Nice to see a bit of colour!

She's my MP and is very well respected. 😁

TimeForRishiByeByes · 09/07/2024 17:47

This mark Matlock fella I've just read about - wonder if the whole rumour of the candidate reform parties being AI is correct.

IMAGINE.

Also I saw on the television earlier farage and his team turn up they just looked like door men on a Friday night and 30p lee was trying to look tough

dontcallmelen · 09/07/2024 17:48

Yes thank you all for the commentary, not been able to watch much I have dgd today busy playing with kinetic sand (shudder I hate the stuff) & watching Dougee.
very glad Keir was gracious towards Diane, as for Farage that man has absolutely no class.

I live not far from the A38 into Brum. I know all about cycle paths, cycle traffic paths. And trams for that matter.

There is a perspective view of Victoria Square which makes Brum almost look like Switzerland

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/07/2024 17:51

I love that bit of Brum. I do love a tram. So much nicer than buses. 😂

dontcallmelen · 09/07/2024 17:52

Monsoon like rain here in my corner of south east London, I have the heating on.
another with pink hair, sort of I have pink highlights.

LittleBowSheep · 09/07/2024 17:55

I watched quite a few of the MPs being sworn in/affirmed. It came to Chris Bryant's turn and he said hello to the clerk and asked him how he was. The clerk's face was a picture. You could tell it was unexpected. A nice moment.

BestIsWest · 09/07/2024 17:56

Ed Miliband was very polite too and thanked the clerk for doing this job. I think Sunak said something too.

With is it 335 new MPs out of 650, I wonder if there is the opportunity for the culture in Parliament to be significantly changed for the better?

If just to remind us that Farage, N (Clacton) is 1/649 voices clamouring to be heard. Which means turning up every week in the hope he'll get picked for a question.

If you believe in an almighty (I don't, but understand how they work 😀) then maybe a warning against hubris is the surprise discovery of a 5th Reform MP. Mainly because it does rather spoil the joke about a Ford Fiesta having more seats.

SerendipityJane · 09/07/2024 18:14

That said, there is a certain schadenfreude reading (Daily Mail) headlines about "Boris Johnson (not even an MP) tears into Labour over ditching levelling up" and thinking "Who cares what you think ?". Both the paper and the protester.
