Is anyone else thoroughly uninspired by Keir Starmar

Keir Starmar isn’t even officially PM yet, just feel he’s uninspiring. I’m a former Labour Party member but just not sure he’ll actually be able to make our lives better. He hasn’t given us much of a vision to get behind. He’s no Tony Blair or Jeremy Corbyn. He’s just not Tory?!

Hoping he’s a great PM but not getting that feeling.

@x2boys that was what we were discussing that how he is presenting as the Labour leader isn't the same as the man she worked with. She said he's a shame he was being so reserved.

Towing the party line as the leader must be difficult. Constant tightrope I guess.

Wonder if he wishes he'd retired instead!

I'll take boring and competent any day. It's running the country, not an entertainment show.

Not at all. We need someone with a bit of rizz. The last true boring man we had was John Major, mind he did spice things up with Edwina.

I'm not feeling the public euphoria that we had in 1997. People seems to have reservations on whether the current Labour government are going to be better. Still, maybe we are all just traumatised after years of austerity and cuts to services.

This. I think too there's a realisation there isn't going to be a quick fix, and it's going to take time. That dampens the euphoria. We know a lot of hard work ahead to repair the immense damage done. My overwhelming feeling is relief, not joy.

wavingfuriously · 05/07/2024 17:54

Give him a chance!! the man's probably exhausted, new PM don't sleep for first day

I don't want to be inspired by my prime minister. I want him to be a thoughtful l, measured, competent chief executive. He's dealing with a fucked economy, not fighting Agincourt.

Can't put it better than this so will just quote!

Velicirapitor · 05/07/2024 17:56

He has very little charisma. Boris has charisma, go figure.

bergamotorange · 05/07/2024 17:56

Think some people have got so used to the chaos they don't remember how much better life was without it.

And war monger Blair had more charisma than any other prime minister!

Yes, exactly.

It’s a landslide but I think that’s why it feels a bit strange as it’s not really very convincing.

That’s because IMO it feels like it was more ‘vote to get the Tories out!’ than a ringing endorsement for Labour.

Though having said that, I think KS will do a good job despite coming across as boring. We had more than enough of flamboyant jokers with Boris.

CalicoPusscat · 05/07/2024 17:58

He's obviously achieved quite a lot and seems like a good person, I'd like steady for now after the chaos over the past few years.

Not sure how he will translate into action.

Thanks for the correction...so even less inspiring, and so fewer votes than BJ got in 2019 too. It's a sham basically.

Only just realised his initials were BJ,

Im sure I’m years behind the rest of the country, but having a chuckle nonetheless.

SkippysEar · 05/07/2024 18:03

He went more by BoJo

This
I think we had already had our fill of the clown Boris , you can decide yourself if he was entertaining enough or not in my case, so quite glad not to be entertained I’ll go to the theatre for that thanks.
Delighted we have a steady pair of hands and not jazz hands either.

Or ludicrously inept jokes like Liz Truss (good riddance).

Because nothing great is gonna happen in the next few years with how everything has been left. Their whole thing is about managing the expectations and not making grand claims that can't be fulfilled (supposedly)

He hasn't been in government.

Oh dear. Sorry. Maybe he was just shadowing and equally disappointing. Or, in fact DPPing. Thank you for pointing that out. 😟

SwingingVoter · 07/07/2024 12:15

I definitely felt more hopeful after yesterday's press conference. He seemed more humble and just wanting to get on.
