Is anyone else thoroughly uninspired by Keir Starmar

Keir Starmar isn’t even officially PM yet, just feel he’s uninspiring. I’m a former Labour Party member but just not sure he’ll actually be able to make our lives better. He hasn’t given us much of a vision to get behind. He’s no Tony Blair or Jeremy Corbyn. He’s just not Tory?!

Hoping he’s a great PM but not getting that feeling.

O that will make a nice change from what we're used to. I wonder if those bets paid out.

Is he going to knock off at 6pm today?

Of all the things about Starmer I'm concerned about, this isn't one. It's something about him that I can respect. Family time is important, regardless of your job. His kids will need support and reassurance atm I imagine.

It doesn't matter whether you feel inspired or not. His bluff has been called and now it's show your hand time, cards on the table. Let's see. I predict more bollox, more moronic decisions and corruption.

I’m quite interested to see how it plays out . Nothing against the guy- he seems ‘nice’ but he never answers questions and even his manifesto was poor without correct budgeting for his ideas. I think a lot voted for him as he was the best choice rather than a true belief in him. That said I do hope by some miracle he’s as marvellous as his speech today makes him out to be!

I would say that taking time at 6pm to have dinner with his family would show me that he is a man who believes in family values. He needs to eat and would probably benefit it from a little down time! I'm sure he will absolutely be on it tomorrow.

SummerBarbecues · 05/07/2024 13:35

He sounds like a decent person, and I'm impressed by his debate performance. He sounded thoughtful and wouldn't just BS his way through issues. I'd much prefer someone who work hard and might do a good job, then charismatic leaders. Arguably, our most charismatic politicians are Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage. I wouldn't vote for either of them.

CurlewKate · 05/07/2024 13:37

I don't want to be inspired by my prime minister. I want him to be a thoughtful l, measured, competent chief executive. He's dealing with a fucked economy, not fighting Agincourt.

His wife and Children are Jewish aren't they ? Probably observant and he wants to be with them good for him, I'm sure that will change as different things come up but if he can keep his Fridays then why not?

TenarAtuan · 05/07/2024 13:45

I don't need to be inspired by him. I just want a safe pair of hands who will govern fairly and wisely, following the broad values of the party.

MsMarch · 05/07/2024 13:47

JamSlags · 05/07/2024 13:08

Exactly this! He’s a prime minister, not Taylor Swift. We had an ‘entertainer’ in Boris and that’s what charisma and performance over quiet substance gets you.

I do completely that it’s important to have a vision and to feel inspired by a plan, but there are other ways to be a leader.

Yeah, this. I think that whlie the Conservatives did themselves no favours over the last five years, you have to admire Starmer for his ability to completely transform the Labour Party and to put it in a position to win. And this is after he'd already done really good work at CPS.

They keep talking about "ruthless". I hate that word. I think the word we should be using for him is "competent".

I don't want an entertainer. I want competent. Give me that over the incompetence of many of the others.

MasterShardlake · 05/07/2024 13:53

VolvoFan · 05/07/2024 12:30

He has no charisma and he sounds like his nose is pegged shut when he speaks.

It'll all be sorted when the image consultants and voice coaches have transformed him.

SwingingVoter · 05/07/2024 13:59

The problem is, after in fighting from the tories and constant back stabbing, keir should be at shoe in, but people do feel flat.

HikingWithTheDoggos · 05/07/2024 12:15

And actually, 'boring' is good when it comes to leading us.

Too true- I had all the excitement I could handle when Truss was “in charge”

MrHarleyQuin · 05/07/2024 14:03

No, I was completely inspired by his speech and felt so relieved and emotional. It was just so fundamentally decent, genuine, sensible and level-headed after the absolute disingenuous, incompetent, self-serving, nasty bollocks we hear from the Brexiteers and the right wing populists.

Cattery · 05/07/2024 14:04

Myblindsaredown · 05/07/2024 13:05

Well no he’s already worth 8 million, neither him or sunak were in it for money they are loaded

The rest of the party had their hands in the till and I’ve never found being “loaded” precludes the need for more money. Sunak’s wife is a billionaire who pays no tax. Lovely

emmetgirl · 05/07/2024 14:07

No not at all.

TheInvisibleMann · 05/07/2024 14:13

He comes across and competent, if a bit dull. But then I don't want an entertaining grifter as a PM, I want someone to steady the ship, be calm in a crisis and get the job done. Starmer seems like he is the man to do this.

I thought his speech outside No.10 was heartfelt and genuine and not just the sound bites we've been used to for the last few years.

Lollypop701 · 05/07/2024 14:20

Not listened to speech yet. I voted labour as the least bad option… I really hope it works out because the manifesto wasn’t really costed out and if he tries to tax us more I think there will be a revolt.

as for new homes, There’s loads of new flats in central Manchester, buying isn’t the issue, the service charges are-£100’s pounds each month and they can be increased.so Effectively only worth renting, and rents are high due to the high service charges. So ‘just’ building homes won’t make a difference unless people can afford to live there

She has paid tax for some time!

But I don't trust him, I know unfortunately his behaviour around his own mp and trans etc means he can't be trusted. He has flip flopped and switched all the time.

Exactly this. He changes position based on who he speaks to /who shouts loudest. Having had the misfortune of working with a number of people like this they usually end up being untrustworthy and completely ineffective because they have no spine

daisychain01 · 05/07/2024 14:27

We don't need personalities, sound-bytes and charismatic "leaders" who talk a good talk but fail to deliver.

Starmer hasn't promised anything, he knows there is a massive job ahead of him to get this country back on its feet, and he's been clear that it won't happen immediately.

He can't win.

If he makes all sorts of grandiose promises that his party will have zero possibility of delivering, people will moan that he won't be able to keep his promises.

If he doesn't make all sorts of grandiose promises, he'll be criticised for not being inspiring.

I personally prefer someone who is thoughtful annd measured, doesn't want to be the centre of attention, and instead puts priority in country first, party second.

If we're not careful, this debate will cycle round so many thousands of time that this country's morale will continue to be flattened because it will become a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Bignanna · 05/07/2024 14:28

HowIrresponsible · 05/07/2024 12:41

That's just childish. My autocorrect always changes it to something else.

No excuse, and it’s disrespectful to spell someone’s name wrong!

lavenderlou · 05/07/2024 14:29

tinydynamine · 05/07/2024 12:14

He / Labour have got about the same number of votes as JC git when he was in charge I believe. The landslide is only due to the nature of FPTP.

That's what you have to do to won an election under the current system. Tactically, they did everything they needed to do.

TakeOnFlea · 05/07/2024 14:31

What do we hate most about recent politicians? The fucking lies, covered up with "charisma".

Now we have someone who seems to be determined and has integrity and decency and you're moaning because he hasn't "inspired" you, doesn't have enough "wit and charm".

Fuck me

EasternStandard · 05/07/2024 14:32

I haven’t listened to his speech. I’ll see how he goes on policy outcome and so on.

SwingingVoter · 05/07/2024 14:33

Out of all the obfustication and waffle the only things that have struck me as good are his 6pm family dinners and his worry for his children.
