Understanding Jay Slater case

softmauve · 01/07/2024 10:14

Can someone explain what is known about this.
My brief understanding (and I'm possibly wrong) is that he had a scuffle and stole a Rolex outside the party he attended. Then went back to an Airbnb with two British guys he didn't know. Stayed there a couple of hours then attempted to walk back to his accommodation. Had a couple of phone calls with friends that give no particular info. The British guys are not involved (seems odd that he was with them). And JS is still missing or possibly hiding/kidnapped. Who has the Rolex?
It all sounds very convoluted and a clear picture would obviously help people understand.

I thought he admitted on Snapchat he did it and the police confirmed it?

Snapchat is unverifiable.

And no, the police have not confirmed it. It's only being talked about because a private investigator (who would have no access to the police investigation) has asserted it.

Thisoldheartofmine · 03/07/2024 18:21

Ah, what to believe..
Just listened to The media programme on radio 4 . They were discussing professional journalism and internet sleuths.
Brief mention of this case - mainly that there was zero info from police ,v little to report on.As a result , theories fill the void.
Location of air bnb v . remote .
Posters organized and put up by Jays dad and ? son. No other input from police etc.

No other input from police etc.Regarding putting up posters I mean.

I hate conspiracy theories but we know he'd just stolen a watch, we know he got spooked and ran away from the men.

I have learned from this thread that not all Rolexes are watches.

However, all reports in this case have very clearly stated that it was a Rolex watch that was stolen. Ignore speculation that it was drugs. It wasn't.

Check out the crerdentials of that guy he stayed with in the air bnb then post back!

I posted on the other thread - I wonder if he went back with those men to try and sell the watch. Things got nasty and he apparently got "spooked". Seems he told his friends he wouldn't go back there and was walking off road. I Wonder if they found him and did something to him? Then they fled the country.
I hate conspiracy theories but we know he'd just stolen a watch, we know he got spooked and ran away from the men. He was too scared to go back to them. It's the only thing that explains why he (someone who hates walking apparently) chose to walk 11 hours instead of going back to the air bnb or waiting for a bus near where the men were.

No, we don't know he had stolen a watch. I love the way you say you hate conspiracy theories but then quote one as fact. All we know for sure is that a Rolex watch was allegedly stolen, and a private investigator claims that his friends say he was involved.

This investigator has no access to the police investigation. He is apparently trying to give his reports more credibility by claiming he was involved in the Nicola Bulley investigation, clearly hoping everyone has forgotten that his involvement consisted almost entirely of telling the press the police were wrong and that she hadn't fallen in the river.

Putting aside the fact that we don't know who he stayed with in the Airbnb - the police haven't said so that is another social media guess - how is that in any way relevant? The reports have been very clear that a Rolex watch was allegedly stolen. They don't just say "Rolex". They specifically say "Rolex watch".

British man Jay Slater visited in AirBnb is convicted drug dealer

Ayub Qassim invited Jay, 19, back to his rented holiday cottage after a rave in Tenerife hours before he vanished on June 17.

The private investigator has threatened to dox the men.

I think that is utterly despicable.

The Tenerife police do not think they are relevant, but the UK police will easily get in touch if they need to speak to them again.

They absolutely do not have to talk to ant private investigators, or go public if they do not want to.

Youdontevengohere · 03/07/2024 20:47

What’s your point? The police said that a Rolex watch was stolen. Do you think they’re mistaken?

Who cares about a Rolex. The article speaks for itself.

Yes, he’s a drug dealer.
Doesn’t change the fact that a Rolex watch was stolen.

Youdontevengohere · 03/07/2024 20:54

Just out of interest, how many people do you think go to 3 day raves who aren’t on drugs? You seem to think that the drugs angle is some kind of revelation?

After I'd been repping for a couple of years and saw too many accidents and near misses with young groups, I used to be worried sick whenever I had boisterous, drink and drug loving youth groups who left their common sense at the airport. There was so many times I'd be frogmarching people out of certain clubs, shouting to them not to go in somewhere (places I'd pre warned them about that were playgrounds for drugging drinks and robbery or assault) and sending them in a taxi back to their apartments! We dealt with fatal ODs (although not as many as the Dutch reps did thankfully) drownings and balcony falls. I was only in my mid 20s by this point and felt about 80 and swear it's what start turning my hair grey!
It wouldn't at all surprise me if he has had an accident walking back.

I was a rep too.

In Tenerife.

None of the theories are implausible to me (🫣) but it also doesn't mean they are true.

A fall is most likely. Unless you've been to Masca (I have many times) it's hard to understand the landscape and how remote it is.

itsgettingweird · 03/07/2024 21:25

Fortunately I can, since both take WADA doping rules seriously and the eldest has to undertake random testing for work.

It's nuts isn't it? My ds had to use global dro last week just to check he couldn't take beconase as was travelling for an international comp 4 days later 😂

itsgettingweird · 03/07/2024 21:26

Could take

Jutemat · 03/07/2024 21:31

@Youdontevengohere Hrm there's a bit of a difference between a casual pill popper at a rave compared to a dealer who's just come out of a 9 year stretch.

Loubelle70 · 03/07/2024 21:44

Its up in the air isnt it?
Ive read alsorts..but there's a story , speculation going about that lucy is a well paid drug mule and brings others into it...jay was selling drugs at the venue for the big guys...he 'lost' the drug (rolex.. ecstasy )backpack which meant he owed them 30k...will leave it with you.

Demonhunter · 03/07/2024 21:51

If it's anything like rural Gran Canaria I can imagine. No accident on holiday is ever surprising though is it, people just seem to leave common sense, due diligence and self preservation instincts at the airport!

prh47bridge · 03/07/2024 21:51

The police have not said that this is the man concerned. He claims he is, but that doesn't mean he is telling the truth. However, the police have stated repeatedly that the allegedly stolen item is a Rolex watch. However much you want it to be drugs, that is not what has been reported.

The only boom is your theory imploding.

BloodandGlitter · 03/07/2024 21:52

Has anyone seen the weird video doing the rounds on tiktok? Supposedly Jay and Lucy having a conversation on CCTV, you can't see them and the video is using subtitles which I think lead to you hearing things you wouldn't otherwise hear.

Yes I've seen it. It sounds like they are arguing and then she's crying saying sorry Jay. Something about a missing bag (probably drugs)
I've listened a few times and I personally think it's AI generated. I don't think it's real.

Unless I am missing something the only new information in the article is that the guy from the Airbnb was a convicted drug dealer.
How is that so important?

It isn't really, as Jay was seen twice by a local after he left the AirBnB, plus had two conversations with friends before his battery died.

Whatever happened to him, happened after he'd left. Most likely he left the road voluntarily for some reason (and with no sleep and possible alcohol/drugs in his system he may not have been making good choices) and then misadventure.

softmauve · 04/07/2024 10:45

Perhaps the Go Fund Me could be used in part to get the guy a new Rolex?
Sadly JS sounds pretty immoral.
