Understanding Jay Slater case

Can someone explain what is known about this.
My brief understanding (and I'm possibly wrong) is that he had a scuffle and stole a Rolex outside the party he attended. Then went back to an Airbnb with two British guys he didn't know. Stayed there a couple of hours then attempted to walk back to his accommodation. Had a couple of phone calls with friends that give no particular info. The British guys are not involved (seems odd that he was with them). And JS is still missing or possibly hiding/kidnapped. Who has the Rolex?
It all sounds very convoluted and a clear picture would obviously help people understand.

Plus when I googled Rolex drugs it came up with ecstasy, so it clearly varies.

Yep, I’d say I do have a fairly in-depth knowledge of drugs (via work) and I’ve only heard of Rolexes as a “brand name” for a particularly reliable type of ecstasy (there are a lot of dud pills out there).

I’m sure somebody somewhere calls coke “Rolex”, not least because Rolex apparently make a Coca Cola branded watch (classy) but it isn’t standard usage as far as I’m aware.

The latest update is strange within itself. Why did the two guys book the airbnb 90mins before arriving? Most people pre book accommodation when going away, so they were obviously on the island.

I wouldn't do it now but I've travelled unbooked in the past. If you're not wanting a particular resort and you have car, or there's good public transport, then in my day there was usually a cheap hotel or B&B available on the night. Maybe not in the town centre but a few miles 'off piste' you'd find somewhere.

Never used Air Bn B but I'd be surprised if a search for 'tonight' didn't throw up results.

I think is quite a standard connection to coke. But no idea in this case whether they meant coke or a watch

Daily Mail reporting that he did steal the Rolex??? From this detective who also investigated the Nicola Bulley case, surely he’s not allowed to say that???

I posted on the other thread - I wonder if he went back with those men to try and sell the watch. Things got nasty and he apparently got "spooked". Seems he told his friends he wouldn't go back there and was walking off road. I Wonder if they found him and did something to him? Then they fled the country.
I hate conspiracy theories but we know he'd just stolen a watch, we know he got spooked and ran away from the men. He was too scared to go back to them. It's the only thing that explains why he (someone who hates walking apparently) chose to walk 11 hours instead of going back to the air bnb or waiting for a bus near where the men were.

How do you know he stole a watch?
How do you know he was spooked by the men?

The DM said the other day that the two men were known to Lucy.
I can't believe I am getting sucked into this now, but none of these facts have been proven.

Albeit it’s the Mail, but Mark Williams-Thomas saying that he told friends he’d stolen the Rolex watch

I read that, I was just wondering what evidence there was.

I mean, even if he did tell friends who for some reason did not tell police but did tell Mark Williams-Thomas, he may have just been making that up. Or MWT made it up, or the friends made it up.

What did Mr Abdul want with young Jay?!

In other news the GFM page has some great comments from donors, suggesting the Jeremy Kyle special polygraph as if it's to be taken seriously.

I don't believe the detective would release that statement based on what his friends said unless it was true. He apparently texted his friends to say he'd taken the watch at the rave. His friends also told him to go back to the bnb and he refused and was reportedly spooked.
We can't be 100% sure but it really makes sense in him refusing to go back to safety and taking on this 11 hour walk with no water or phone battery.
I always thought it was bizarre that he made that decision, especially when he knew how far it was. If he was actually too scared to go back to that area then it makes perfect sense. Also explains why he came off the main road.

He's not a detective though, he's just a random guy investigating the case (who used to be a detective).

The initial reports said that Jay couldn't go back to the Air BnB because he didn't know the way, not because he was scared.
Of course, we don't really know what he said to his friends on the phone but I haven't seen any reports suggesting he was too scared to go back there. Have you a link to one?

The detective who also investigated Nicola Bulley's disappearance and was completely wrong. He wrote an article claiming that it was unlikely she had fallen in the river and that she either left of her own free will or there was a third party involved. Some sources claim he "helped" the Nicola Bulley investigation. The reality is that he repeatedly attacked the police involved, saying that they had made a mess of the investigation, although in some interviews he contradicted himself and said they were doing a good job.

Of course, this does not rule out the possibility that he really has talked to Jay's friends and they really have told him that Jay has admitted taking the Rolex that is allegedly stolen. However, I wouldn't take this guy's word for it without corroboration. Note that the Daily Mail has put this allegation in quotes. That is because they don't have enough evidence to prove the claim is true, so they are making it clear that they are quoting someone else. That way, they are safe from being sued for libel if it turns out to be false.

Jay Slater 'admitted to friends he stole £12,000 Rolex and was trying to sell it' hours before he vanished: Investigator reveals dramatic new revelation in missing teenager probe | Daily Mail Online
This report said he left the b and b because he got spooked. If he was spooked by the men I think it explains why he started the treacherous journey.

Jay Slater 'admitted he stole £12,000 Rolex and was trying to sell it'

Jay, who had been partying on the final night of the three-day NRG festival in Tenerife's Playa de las Americas resort, travelled north to the Casa Abuela Tina Airbnb on June 17.

I agree…I'm taking everything with a large pinch of salt… I don’t think any of the friends have covered themselves in glory, amd I’m pretty sure the police in Tenerife are well aware of that too…right at the start there seemed to be a query over the timings that Lucy had told the police

So there was a fight reported at the time over someone who said he'd had his Rolex nicked and now they are reporting that Jay stole a Rolex. Then he went off with 2 blokes and hasn't really been seen since. And these 2 blokes are not being questioned further - can they be?

Jutemat · 03/07/2024 15:27

The 2 blokes are in the clear. Squeaky clean.

So he’s not finished his punishment for a violent crime that he found hilarious and he’s off doing drugs and committing more crimes? Teenagers like him are the reason I worry about my young teenagers going out at night.

We don't know that he stole the watch.

We do know that another person reported to the police that his Rolex watch had been stolen, and that the place where the owner says it was taken was near where Jay was known to be.

The two people (holiday acquaintances, not completes randoms) have been interviewed by the police (they stayed on an extra day for that) and they are deemed not relevant. Anything else is speculation.

TaylorSwish · 03/07/2024 17:57

I thought he admitted on Snapchat he did it and the police confirmed it?

I have learned from this thread that not all Rolexes are watches.

As if he'd steal a £12k watch from a burly Eastern European! These stories are so fanciful.
