Violent vomiting for hours overnight so thought just bad dose of D&V. But very sore chest. Sore neck (glands like 2 hardboiled eggs). No temp but shivery.
Pale, clammy, massive headache not resolving with ibuprofen / paracetamol. Any ideas what it might be (covid?)
We are due on hols in 12 days (1st flight ever) & would really like him well.

Covid presented like that for me. Prolonged vomiting, several days, and the sore chest - clamp like feeling round the bra line in my case. Feeling of a combination of almost constant reflux and headache when trying to lie down, then ache in other limbs.
Really try to stay hydrated with rehydration salts. Keep an eye as I needed a drip eventually, but it was that which seemed to turn the corner even if it didn't completely deal with the sickness.

I’m not a medic , ring the NHS number, maybe glandular fever or mumps. Did he have MMR vaccine? We had a bad outbreak of mumps at the University I used to work at few years ago.

LegoTherapy · 30/06/2024 23:59

Please get him seen by a medical professional. I'd be phoning 111 tonight as a minimum. Those symptoms are concerning (retired nurse).

Agree with calling 111 for advice now, don’t wait until morning.

Bluemincat · 01/07/2024 00:00

Have you done a covid test?

Don't want to worry you but it could also be meningitis.

Haggisfish3 · 01/07/2024 00:01

I’d be calling 111. Are his glands as big as eggs? Has he done a covid test?

FluffyJellyCat · 01/07/2024 00:02

Sore neck and vomiting with headache I would get nhs advice.

Could just be sore and dehydrated from being sick but I wouldn't risk it.

Bluemincat · 01/07/2024 00:02

"Symptoms of meningitis develop suddenly and can include:

a high temperature (fever)
being sick
a headache
a rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it (but a rash will not always develop)
a stiff neck
a dislike of bright lights
drowsiness or unresponsiveness
seizures (fits)

These symptoms can appear in any order. You do not always get all the symptoms."

From NHS website.

No covid tests in house.
He has sore ears, headache, sore chest. His neck movements seem OK & I just felt his glands again & seemed smaller (than 15m ago which is silly so maybe I'm a fool!). No temperature.
Managed a sandwich & 2 cups of tea all day (he's 6ft2).

Sorry, Yes, he's had all his vaccinations.

What do you mean by sore chest. As in the skin on his chest is sore? Or he has chest pain?

💯 A&E asap. Deffo a shocking infection somewhere. Could be anywhere Tbf if he's getting shivery it could be rigors you do not want this to end in sepsis. Likely will get antibiotics which will mean he will be grand to go on holiday he needs to be seen

medianewbie · 01/07/2024 00:24

Chest pain.

Covid or possibly something more sinister like meningitis. Call 111 now, don’t delay

Incakewetrust · 01/07/2024 00:28

Please take him to A&E now. This is ringing so many alarms bells

Aquamarine1029 · 01/07/2024 00:30

I would be taking him to a&e immediately.

Bluemincat · 01/07/2024 00:33

So vomiting, headache, chest pain, swollen glands, pale, clammy and shivery? I would be taking him to A&E.

Amd don't bother with 111. As soon as you mention chest pain they'll call you an ambulance or tell you to go to A&E.

medianewbie · 01/07/2024 00:33

Have found & done covid test & it's negative. When he coughs his shoulders hurt. He's been saying chest sore on & off last 2 days but he's ASD & pointed to his stomach & then D&V so thought it was that. He never has a headache though. He's having a cuppa & due 2 pain meds. If no better in 15m I think I'll take your advice & call 111.

OP posts:
Bluemincat · 01/07/2024 00:34

You'll be waiting for hours with 111 and they'll just tell you to go to A&E.

Bluemincat · 01/07/2024 00:35

Is he non-verbal? Does he generally have a high pain threshold?

Mo819 · 01/07/2024 00:35

I would attend a and e tonight.

MegsNaiceJam · 01/07/2024 00:35

Don’t wait 15 mins just call. The longer you delay the longer it will take to call you back, which means you’ll be awake longer if you even manage to get some sleep.
This could be complicated, and needs some help

medianewbie · 01/07/2024 00:52

Not non verbal no but very sensory so can get muddled about pain areas/ levels. He doesn't look good to me though. I'm 5 miles from an A&E so I'm going to drive him in & see what they say.

OP posts:
Bluemincat · 01/07/2024 00:56

Good idea. Hope all goes well.

I was asking about pain threshold as my DS has a high pain threshold so wasn't believed when he had appenditicitis as they said he wasn't in enough pain, despite him being disabled and me telling the doctors that he has a high pain threshold. So don't let them fob you off!

Incakewetrust · 01/07/2024 01:00

So glad you're taking him in! I hope he's ok xx
