What milk do the adults in your house drink?

Assuming those of you with children buy full fat for them, what do the adults have and why?

I buy skimmed (cos I'm always on a diet and prefer it in tea) but I'm tempted to swap to semi skimmed.

I prefer semi skimmed in tea but will have whole milk in/on everything else.

Teen dd has whole milk.

HysteriaOfTheWanderingWomb · 23/06/2024 13:07

Full fat milk or don't bother in our house for everyone.
Even full fat milk is less than 4% fat - if everything you are was 4% fat max, you'd be on easy street for any diet that's attempting to manage fats!
So you'd be far better off focusing attention elsewhere if you want to make an impact... Not least because a lot of the nutrition in milk are fat soluble nutrients, which means you diminish, disproportionately, the nutritional quality of the milk by extracting that tiny amount of fat.

Fine if you prefer it for flavour reasons, but for health and nutrition full fat is the better more balanced choice.

In our house milk is just a supportive ingredient in other things, tea, sauces, cereal etc so I want the version that holds the most nutrition - full fat.

Full fat, always have. Don’t like skimmed or even semi skimmed. It’s what I grew up drinking and I like it.

Full fat blue top.

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 23/06/2024 13:09

Whole milk for everything except tea here which I keep a small bottle of semi-skimmed for.

Even whole milk is a low-fat product. It's also useful for budgeting as it goes further. When I make pancakes I use a mix of milk and water to get the lightness I want whereas if I was using semi-skimmed it would all be milk. If I have semi-skimmed in coffee I end up having more milk than if it's whole etc.

DappledThings · 23/06/2024 13:10

Full fat, blue. Green semi is ok. Skimmed red is just white water. Horrible stuff. Blue is still a low fat item and is best for anything that uses it in cooking.

jay55 · 23/06/2024 13:12

I buy semi skimmed for me to have in cereal and coffee.

Occasionally I'll get some gold top if I'm making lasagne.

Fallenangelofthenorth · 23/06/2024 13:13

Whole milk. Same with youghurt - we only have the full fat versions which are always so much more expensive but much more nutritious and far less sugar than low fats.

wlv12 · 23/06/2024 13:13

Husband and kids have semi skimmed, I have oat milk

Devilsmommy · 23/06/2024 13:14

Soya milk for the adults and toddler soya for the toddler, cmpa

KohlaParasaurus · 23/06/2024 13:14

Semi skimmed. DH's choice since I don't use much milk. I put some lactase in the bottle if I'm anticipating making custard or cheese sauce because I have limited (but not zero) lactose tolerance.

Kinsters · 23/06/2024 13:14

Whole milk for everyone. I drink a glass every evening.

Brbreeze · 23/06/2024 13:16

Oat

KevinDeBrioche · 23/06/2024 13:16

Full fat organic. I won’t buy low fat anything, massive con imo and not good for health. We are all slim / tall/ fit.

CrispyTofu · 23/06/2024 13:19

Oat milk for everyone and everything. We don't drink breast milk from other speciesWink

reluctantbrit · 23/06/2024 13:19

Semi-skimmed. DH prefers it in his tea (I drink black) and skimmed is just strangely coloured water. We also grew up with semi-skimmed so it's a matter of taste.

I like a glass of full fat once in a while if I buy a pint for a recipe.

TiaraBoo · 23/06/2024 13:21

Skimmed. I don’t like milky tea.

bakewellbride · 23/06/2024 13:21

Dh and ds have semi skimmed cows milk. I have soya or oat and toddler dd has special oat milk for kids. I could never drink cows milk, drinking breastmilk made for another species is just wrong imo.

KevinDeBrioche · 23/06/2024 13:21

We used to use oat milk but stopped after reading ultra processed people and wearing a blood sugar monitor for two weeks. OMG the SPIKES. Sugars and oil.

BeansMeansBeans · 23/06/2024 13:22

Full fat from a nearby calf at foot herd. It's so amazing, I'll really miss it if we ever leave the area.

Either that or raw, another nearby herd

Waitingfordoggo · 23/06/2024 13:23

I only buy whole milk. I don’t buy low fat anything as I believe full fat is more nutritious. None of us are overweight.

Tisfortired · 23/06/2024 13:24

Semi skimmed for the adults and 10 year old, and always buy jersey gold for the toddler but we also use the jersey in porridge or if I’m feeling slightly luxurious when cooking something that requires milk.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 23/06/2024 13:24

Everyone has oat milk.

Fifthtimelucky · 23/06/2024 13:25

I only buy un-homogenised full fat these days, after years of having semi skimmed. I prefer the taste, and I don't use that much of it, so I don't think it makes much difference in terms of calories.

My husband has the same but only because he just uses whatever I buy. He wouldn't know or care if you asked him which he'd prefer.

When my adult daughter is here I buy oat milk for her.

Citrusandginger · 23/06/2024 13:25

Semi skimmed for drinks as I don't like creamy tea. Full fat for yoghurt making & cooking.
