Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

Have you got some proof this is true?

prh47bridge · 03/07/2024 13:36

The truth?

Let me correct that article for you...

The investigator, who also probed Nicola Bulley's disappearance and was completely wrong. He wrote an article claiming that it was unlikely she had fallen in the river and that she either left of her own free will or there was a third party involved. Some sources claim he "helped" the Nicola Bulley investigation. The reality is that he repeatedly attacked the police involved, saying that they had made a mess of the investigation, although in some interviews he contradicted himself and said they were doing a good job.

Of course, this does not rule out the possibility that he really has talked to Jay's friends and they really have told him that Jay has admitted taking the Rolex that is allegedly stolen. However, I wouldn't take this guy's word for it without corroboration. Note that the Daily Mail has put this allegation in quotes. That is because they don't have enough evidence to prove the claim is true, so they are making it clear that they are quoting someone else. That way, they are safe from being sued for libel if it turns out to be false.

SallyWD · 03/07/2024 13:50

I do wonder if he went back with the two men to try and sell the watch and things got nasty. Seems he more or less ran away in a hurry and didn't want to go back to them. I can't help wondering if they caught up with him and did something to him. Apparently they were very shaken when Lucy tracked them down.

OhmygodDont · 03/07/2024 14:09

I mean the Rolex story was out there in the universe before this guy appeared.

Let’s face it someone with a criminal history, high/drunk stealing something isn’t a far fetch… nor is selling such an item going wrong, or even just stealing it off the wrong person 🤷🏻‍♀️ or maybe he did steal it, maybe nothing happened and he still just wondered off getting lost and let’s face it by this point expiring.

Chenecinquantecinq · 03/07/2024 16:49

If the report is true and his friends knew he stole the Rolex and he left the Airbnb scared then this explains why Lucy was so desperate to call the police. Obvious there was more to this they have now lost all credibility by keeping these details quiet!

Do you have a source for that?

Also, if Jay was so spooked from events at the AirBnB, why did he sound perfectly fine at the start of his call with Brad, the one during which he apparently slipped/tripped (causing end of call). That was c.20 mins before the call to Lucy in which he was distressed, needed a drink, had been cut by a cactus and phone nearly dead.

Do we know that he sounded perfectly fine to Brad and Lucy though?? We only have their word for it dont we? A Rolex deal gone bad at least makes sense in explaning why he went there with those 2 guys. But it doesnt explain why he thought walking 11 hours was a good idea, not with a fistful of dollars.

A sling your fucking hook or else ya wee shite. If I see your face again nobody else ever will.

that type of stuff.

From people he tried to rob / mug off selling stolen goods to would be a pretty good explanation.

Yes, we only have their word for it i indeed for any call content - but is there any reason to doubt them?

Are you accusing them of perverting the course of justice by persistently lying to police?

We dont know what's been said, but purchasing a 2nd hand watch isnt a crime!

You guys reading reddit/tattle?

Interesting info on one of the men named in the earlier linked DM article on this page

Shocker. Criminals spending time with criminals and someone goes missing.

I reckon the family are in it for the cash now tbh. Using it to fly extras out for “support” no bothering to help search and all that. Smells like a dead fish

So there's more to hear from the 2 men he went back to the Air BnB with? No shit sherlock. Why exactly WOULD 2 older guys take a 19 year old back to their very cheap crash pad? £40 a night! Why would he go? It's always been the most suspicious aspect of this whole unusual event, obviously.

I have been saying this from the start- All the "oh he went back for an after party, He only stayed an hour because it was boring yada yada-that never rang true for me.

Probably after party, which did not materialise. Early accounts from both Lucy and Brad suggest that.

He was seen after he left the AirBnB by a local resident, so he has left under his own steam, was showing no signs of distress in his call with Brad; but was in some distress 20 mins or so after that. So unless all those people are co-conspirators (pre-planned as Lucy's first call to the police was v shortly thereafter), I really don't see how that can work.

Garlicker · 03/07/2024 21:48

very cheap crash pad? £40 a night! It's a cute little house, two beds and two baths, with stunning views. I can easily understand two 30-somethings choosing that instead of sharing a room at a hotel full of drunk teenagers for £100 a night.

From the DM article: 'I let the geezer stay at mine because he had nowhere else to go, his friends had all left him. I know Jay, through friends, I'm not going to bring someone back to mine if I don't know them. I'm doing the geezer a favour and now my face is all over the news. It's a bit mental. I haven't even done anything.'

I can understand why people find it suspicious that Jay went there, and then why he wandered off. Those people were probably better-behaved teenagers than I was - when you're drunk, high, inexperienced and haven't slept, you act illogically. I once crossed a Greek island on foot by moonlight, following a goat track. Look at the route Jack O'Sullivan took, walking round Bristol in a giant, wobbly loop while trying to go home. It's easy to believe Jay didn't know how to get back to his hotel, and those guys helped him. Should've been a non-event.

Reading between lines, it seems likely everybody in this story was dealing drugs and the teens, at least, were using them. That doesn't make this a nefarious international crime plot. Just a group of people being 'festie friends' and a kid's small adventure going wrong 😢

FIND JACK - REWARD £20,000

23 year old Jack O'Sullivan went missing on March 2nd 2024, following a night out in Hotwells, Bristol.

But it also doesn't mean it wasn't something nefarious 🤷🏼‍♀️

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/07/2024 22:20

I think you missed my point. £40 per night for a 2 bed 2 bath Air BnB just seems incredibly low priced to me. Perhaps it's cheap because it's off the beaten track?

Garlicker · 03/07/2024 22:25

Yes, @LindorDoubleChoc, their usual guests are hikers. Apparently these two men booked it on arrival in the island, so it was a bit of a find (or would have been, if this hadn't gone pear-shaped).

When I looked it up on Airbnb last week, it was still listed at €40. Bargain.

It doesnt work out cheap when you need to hire a car to get to it! Hrm but why would a former big time drug dealer need a car and a remote cottage in one of the most corrupt little islands going? Strokes chin.

Does it matter?

Jay was seen twice by a local after he had left the AirB&B, and made two calls.

Whatever happened to him, happened after he'd left.

eish · 04/07/2024 07:49

It is likely those attending the rave were on drugs so there are bound to be drugs links. The most simple possibility, and therefore the most likely is that he fell. I think people are clinging to conspiracy theories / more complicated explanations because that is the only way he could still be alive.
