Anyone else think there might be something strange about the 19yr old disappearance in Tenerife?

I get that kids do foolish things, like travelling at night with 2 strangers.

But if he was seen at the new accommodation around 8am, and again walking briskly along the road some time “later”, how could he have needed to make a call at 8.30am saying he was lost, had no phone charge and needed water? He would have only just left the accommodation so definitely wouldn’t need water. And why not send your gps or what three words location then?

The last Snapchat is very odd too. Looks like he's wearing a patterned dress? I presume he's identified by the rings on the hand holding a cigarette

fancyfrogs · 22/06/2024 09:08

@Bookmark1111 I think I saw that post or one along the same lines. Since been deleted but have seen people sharing screenshots of it

While I absolutely don't dispute that tragedies happen and the location he was last known to be in looks very unforgiving, there's the odd detail that pops up (obviously unconfirmed) that just feels iffy. The mum and Lucy's interviews felt odd to me. But again, just my opinion and the Facebook pages are horrific with the armchair detectives and absolutely ridiculous suggestions.

Yeah, they're hoping to raise £30k apparently and have so far raised £25k. For what exactly? It's a total scam and anyone who donates is a fool.

The 2 men he travelled with after the rave? Where are they? Who are they? Have they come forward or been identified by police?

They apparently left Tenerife in a big hurry shortly after Jay disappeared ...

i read they left on the day they were booked on a flight to leave anyway
, they prob only had the air b and b booked to that date anyway, and may have jobs to get home for.

HasToStop · 22/06/2024 09:10

Cancel the fucking cheque.

No they didn’t.

They stayed an extra day to talk to the police and then went home.

I don't think that there is anything suspicious about it.

Yes it is very peculiar. There was a big thread on it yesterday that was deleted. Lots of theories. Not sure I can repeat them or the prefects will be on to do their reporting duties. Suffice to say, drugs and the illegal trade in them featured heavily plus speculation about his criminal background and his friend out there whose storytelling is like a piece of Swiss cheese.

I haven't taken a lot of interest in this particular case. But it's hardly surprising that conspiracy theories arise. Folk want answers. If they don't get them that's when the conspiracy theories arise. And the usual tut tutters telling folk off about speculating.

I don’t normally believe online speculation but there is one particularly compelling FB post I read last night that’s convinced me he didn’t go missing of his own volition and that he might just pop up in a few days once the Go Fund Me appeal is cashed out. His friend Lucy Mae who won’t be interviewed with her face showing features heavily in the background detail.

Maybe inspired by the media attention of poor Mosley’s disappearance.

I agree about the interviews. I hate to say it but lots of talk from the mum and female friend about him being taken points to them knowing maybe more than they're letting up. The mum said no go fund me then when she landed in Tenerife she changed her mind apparently because Lucy put one up. Did Lucy tell her something that'd happened? Also agree the FB pages are horrendous with an occasional telling story or video put up, now I'm seeing headlines from news outlets saying "details don't add up" so wonder if info slipping out behind the scenes. Either way I hope he's found alive

If the FB post is to be believed, there are other parties involved, so unlikely to have been inspired by that.

They left on the flight they had been booked on all the time. Their holiday had finished, nothing sinister and the police know who they are.

SallyWD · 22/06/2024 09:31

I usually absolutely hate conspiracy theories. All the rubbish said about Nicolas Bulley, about Michael Mosley killing himself, about Kate Middleton dying, being in a coma or divorcing. I hate all that! Makes me so angry.
However, in this case I actually wouldn't be surprised if there's more to the story. Certain things seem suspicious... I also wouldn't be surprised if he was just a young lad, who was still under the influence who got lost, fell in to the sea or something. That's also very plausible.

I think lots of lads wear a sarong on beach holidays/at raves.

PrueRamsay · 22/06/2024 09:32

I think his criminal past (google his name and the word machete) is making many people think twice. Plus the really piss poor decision making.

Underneath it all he probably has stupidly wandered off and got lost/fallen.

I can see why there is speculation though, given his background.

Who created the Go Fund Me page? Also, I’m curious as to why they can’t use a helicopter to search?

They are looking in ravines, so likely not visible from above.

Because she didn’t realise it wasn’t really walkable? It was 8am, they’d all been at a festival the night before, they’d all have been hungover and not really thinking straight.

Edited

He could have said please can you collect me later this morning. There are restaurants close to where he was so he could have rested there.
Waiting a couple of hours for a lift vs 10 hour walk is very odd.

Mmhmmn · 22/06/2024 09:34

It’s warmer there in the morning than it is here. If he was drinking the previous night he would already be dehydrated from that before setting out walking. I don’t think it’s particularly strange.

Misthios · 22/06/2024 09:35

Poor decision making - wait 2 hours for the next bus, or embark on a 10 hour walk through the mountains.

Who would be collecting him? The people that drove him should have driven him back. And on gofundmes, they’re often set up by people who want to be seen to be doing something regardless of whether it’s needed or helpful. More fool the people donating to it

eggplant16 · 22/06/2024 09:39

Poor thing, he's long gone.

I meant wait and get a lift

mindutopia · 22/06/2024 09:42

I don’t think any of it sounds particularly fishy. I follow missing persons cases regularly. He was up all night drinking and doing drugs, presumably until just before he decided to walk back, still under the influence and dehydrated. It was bloody hot. I was in Spain this week (not Tenerife) and it was 35c on the hottest day. Even not hungover (I don’t drink), well rested, and with plenty of hydration, it was very hot.

I could absolutely see how someone could become disoriented and pass out very quickly. Easily within an hour of walking in those temps. Look at Michael Mosley. A doctor, well aware of the risks and signs of heatstroke, presumably not doing drugs or binge drinking before he disappeared, and he got lost in very similar terrain and was dead in a few hours. Nearly in plain sight of a resort.

It happens. SAR teams regularly miss people walking within a few feet of them. In this heat, yes, the smell would be noticeable quickly. But even cadaver dogs struggle in that terrain and temps.

I don’t think this will be anything more than a young person making a silly mistake while under the influence of substances that cost them their life when they thought they were invincible. We’ve probably all done it (I know I did), but most of us got lucky and nothing too grim happened. Not everyone will be so lucky.

socks1107 · 22/06/2024 09:42

The lad was high on drugs. If you've seen the photos printed in the press that's obvious.
He's likely started his come down, left the villa because these people need to pack and leave, is disoriented with the drugs, wandered off again thinking he can walk due to the drugs and has sadly fallen/succumbed to heat stroke
