What is the best excuse a friend has given you for not meeting up? I have a doozy.W

I have a friend who has told me she can't meet for a while because her 22 year old daughter has just started a Keto diet, and she needs to be at home to cook for her!

I feel slightly insulted that she could not come up with a better excuse not to meet! 😋

🤣🤣 that is preposterous

Reply that it works for you not to meet because you have to stare at a wall in case it falls down.

thequickbrowndog · 19/06/2024 10:12

"I just need to be still" 🤷🏻‍♀️

AmelieTaylor · 19/06/2024 10:12

Call it a blessing in disguise, if it's a lie it's a pathetic one and if it's the truth I couldn't be friends with someone so bloody ridiculous.

id stop contacting her & if she contacted me, id consider whether I really wanted to meet up with her or not.

Proper first world problem (for her). Ditch her.

not sure about friends, but some beauty's from sixth formers who couldn't get into their lessons include

I haven't been taught to park yet, so when I drove to school I had to turn around and drive home again.

The car broke down and I didn't have enough money for bus fare, so I couldn't come home and had to stay at my girlfriends house (4 miles away... for 2 weeks)

My girlfriend is giving birth!(lots of congratulations and support! until a week later same student didn't show up... "my other girlfriend is giving birth") - he admitted to me when we met on the bus a couple of years later that he has never had either girl friends or children...

We have sleep paralysis - all of us, every morning, for about an hour - didn't you know it was infectious miss?

There is a fox in my street that looks at me funny when I try to come out

CharlotteRumpling · 19/06/2024 10:17

i am definitely not contacting her again, though we might meet again elsewhere as we have common friends. I don't think she hates me, but I think she prefers a social media friendship to actually making the effort to meet. As do so many people these days, sadly!

My MIL (DH's birth mother - his "real mum" is actually his step mother) didn't come to our wedding because with 9 months notice she couldn't get dog care. The wedding was an hour from her home.

There's a lot more to it obv (probably couldn't face her ex DH for one thing), but really? And sent by Facebook Messenger no less!

As DH says, he only went to his maternal grandmother's funeral to make she she'd really died because his mum has form for outrageous lies. The women on that side of the family were / are vicious.

I had a friend who said that she was unable to meet up as planned because she had spent the night in a room with bad feng shui and it had unsettled her aura 🙄

I love the inventiveness of these, particularly the first parking one! 😂

My son when he was in nursery's friend couldn't come to his party because he was jetlagged. Fair enough until I heard he'd only been to Germany!

Mydahliasareshit · 19/06/2024 10:38

I have to take my 17 year old to their tutor.
(Tutor lived across the road🤣)

FrenchandSaunders · 19/06/2024 10:40

a colleague had 7 weeks off work after she failed her driving test 😆

sockarefootwear · 19/06/2024 10:40

Someone texted me on the morning of my wedding to say that they couldn't come because they had pets and couldn't leave them at home for that long. Which I understand, but they had the same pets when they were invited and replied 12 months earlier and they also confirmed just a few weeks before that they would be there. It was very annoying because if they'd told me in advance I could have reduced the catering numbers and saved £££

RoyalnGeneral · 19/06/2024 10:45

A friend suggested we meet at a restaurant in a town between our two locations for lunch. Forty-five minutes after we were supposed to meet, they messaged to say they'd got lost and couldn't find the town (not the restaurant, the town) so they'd turned around and gone home. It's not a small town, and I'd travelled a couple of hours to meet them.

TheLadyOfTheFlowers · 19/06/2024 10:52

"Sorry LOTF, we can't come to the party today as it is a long way to travel for the day" (About 1.5hrs)

Well it is the same distance it was when you accepted the invite you numpty

I am (blessedly) now in a non student facing role in an FE college but I worked in a university for years and the non-attendance emails I received were a highlight. I've been sent photos of flat tyres, various injuries, and someone's manky tonsils.

My favourite was simply "sorry I did not attend - I was having diarrhoea". I mean... there's no arguing with that, is there? English was not their first language and I remember wishing someone had taught them the phrase "under the weather" 😂

Overtheatlantic · 19/06/2024 13:00

Needed time to process being bullied by someone she’d never met. The reality was that she was downgrading me to an acquaintance.

That's even battier than the keto daughter 😂

A new boyfriend once stood me up because he had to iron a shirt.

DD1's playdate cancelled by sms after the start time (we were running late) because the child we were going to play with had misbehaved at lunch & no playdate was her punishment. We'd arrived at theirs by the time I noticed the sms so they were a) surprised / in pj's and b) it went ahead. After that I turned my phone off on the way to playdates with them as I didn't approve of punishing / disappointing my child like that for someone else's misbehaviour.

When I was a director of studies a teacher failed to turn up one morning. When I called her she said she couldn’t come to work because she had constipation.

Student - I couldn't come to the meeting because I had no trousers to wear.

I was howling in pain because of constipation recently - it can be an awful thing.
