Things you should be interested in but aren't

Climate change and the environment, I literally find them the most boring subjects in the world. I'm not a climate change denier, I'll do what I can but I'm just nor interested.

Most sport. In fact, I detest it. I'll watch the football Euros and Worlds and the Olympics, but that's it. The rest of it bores the life out of me. And no, it wouldn't make a difference if our country were doing well. I still wouldn't be interested.

Other than quite enjoying a leisurely kick about of a ball, or gentle bike ride/hike I have no interest in any sport and definitely no interest in watching others play it (however good they are at it). This seems to baffle people and friends/colleagues seem convinced that there must be some sort of sport that I will really enjoy watching. I really can't see why it's so hard to believe that someone who does not enjoy watching the world cup might also not enjoy wimbledon or the olympics.

Oh I had a colleague who insisted I'd be interested in Wimbledon if we started winning. He would not have it that no, I wouldn't!

Other people’s stools.

Yellow, brown or black? I know every shade of my neighbours’.

Shoot me now.

Other people's babies/small children. I witness numerous other people on buses and in shops going all gooey about some baby or toddler in a pushchair, whereas I couldn't care less. I have a grown up DD and an 18 year old DGD and I love them both dearly, but other people's kids? No,just go away. I don't want to play peek-a-boo with you. Contrary to what some people believe, this doesn't mean that I wish children harm. I just want them to leave me alone as I'm not interested.

A "lovely" day out like Wimbledon/Ascot. Much rather be sitting in the garden. What's wrong with me?!

Ragwort · 25/06/2024 21:19

Totally agree ohthejoys several years ago we were invited to Wimbledon by family members, wouldn't have cost us anything, they were beyond excited to have the tickets but I have zero interest in tennis and even less interest in being at some sort of 'day out' ... they couldn't believe it when we (politely) suggested they found some genuine tennis fans to invite.

The main thing I am totally uninterested these days is travel and holidays ... I am recently retired and lots of people assume I will be off travelling or on holidays ... I really can't face the thought of airports or travel these days, I have a comfortable home in a nice part of the country and am perfectly happy with my modest lifestyle of volunteering, hobbies, a local ish trip out ... and doing not much 😆.

Pensions
A lot of other stuff to do with finance
Law

All these. Tax, pensions, wills. I’m named as an executor on my DM’s will and am not looking forward to the day I’ll need to do it.

I’m not completely mathematically incompetent and can do pen-and-paper arithmetic at a respectable level (mental arithmetic is another matter) but somehow numbers send me to sleep or staring out of a window. I cannot concentrate on them.

ETA: pets, especially dogs. I don’t hate them. I just don’t get them.

camelfinger · 25/06/2024 21:43

The menopause. I don’t really want to talk about it or have training. So many symptoms seem to be things that happen anyway as a woman.

ohthejoys21 · 29/06/2024 13:08

History I'm ashamed to say.. when dh wants to visit some sweltering ruins on holiday with our friends who are all so interested...

Backtothe80splease · 29/06/2024 13:18

My husband’s day at work. I love him to bits but every evening he drones on and on about his day at work. May be interesting to him but bores me to tears.

Waitingfordoggo · 29/06/2024 13:48

Possibly already mentioned unless I’m the only uncultured one here, but art galleries. I give myself about half hour tops before I’m bored shitless and beginning to behave like a fidgety child.

Pixiedust49 · 29/06/2024 13:57

So many things… cooking, going abroad, box sets, reality TV, having hair/ nails/ eyebrows etc done. To name a few.

Oh god, I’m ashamed at my disinterest in history. I know some bits because I had to to study English to degree level, but outside that my brain just switches off, with the exception of modern history.

Arlanymor · 29/06/2024 14:12

Football
Fashion
Reality TV

Floralnomad · 29/06/2024 14:13

Holidays - don’t like them , never have , love a day out or a couple of nights away but any longer than that and I’ve had enough . I do go on lots of days out though .

Toomanysquishmallows · 29/06/2024 14:56

I’m embarrassed to admit it , but any sort of interior design .

beryldaperil · 29/06/2024 15:05

I like that analogy @Cattenberg with the USA. Would Russia and North Korea be the two naughty kids verging on criminality? And Australia the child continuously breaking school rules and wearing flip flops (we'll set our own rules on immigration, and woe betide anyone who doesn't let our citizens work abroad). Ghana, Poland, Malaysia and Costa Rica maybe the hardworking, reliable stewards of the class. Not forgetting Germany& France constantly running for class prefects every bloody year.

This could get really addictive!
