Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

We were going to go out a walk today, but woke up to very heavy rain. And no we are not going to put on adult puddle suits and splash around as if we were five years old. Or stay in under blankets and drinking sweet hot chocolate. I love the outdoors. I am not someone who wants to waste a weekend watching films with overly sweet hot drinks.

So what are you doing instead?
It's about making the best of a situation instead of being negative about it, we can't change it.

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 13:18

@Disturbia81 going to supermarket, doing housework, then we are all going round a friends later. What do you suggest I do to make the best of a bad situation? We do not have lots of money to spend on indoor attractions, we have been to the local free museum loads over the months as there has been so many rainy days.

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 13:20

And that is a major issue. If you do not have much money, you can still do loads outdoors. If the weather is very shit you are pretty limited.

Well said.

PlumpHobbit · 15/06/2024 13:26

Yes I am!

Can't stand the heatwaves, when you're hot even sitting still, and don't get any sleep because it's too hot to get comfortable

Agree completely. Being indoors is no substitute for being outdoors. It doesn’t:
Give you natural vitamin D
Improve mental health
Have in built exercise via walking long distances
Enable you to see other people unless specifically invited - it’s good for you to see the world go by and bump into people you know

It does:
Encourage too much screen time
Cause us to be lacking in vitamin D
Have a negative effect on socialising and mental health
Cause us to be too stationery

No doubt somebody will pop along who has a home yoga studio, hosts a dinner party every night and Vitamin D allowing skylights all over the place, but you get my drift

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 13:32

@MaryMaryVeryContrary yep, just do exercise in your home gym. When most of us live in small houses with little room to do anything.

Delatron · 15/06/2024 13:33

I would have thought the only job unbearable in 20 degree sunshine is working in a greenhouse.

I like to spend most of the day outdoors in nice weather. Do the cold and wet lovers spend this much time out in the cold and wet or do they just not spend much time outside at all?

No they don’t. They are lazy and like to fester under a blanket for 12 months. They don’t like the ‘pressure’ to go out. They want it to be cold and rainy for 12 months every year and if is so much as touches 20 degrees despite it being like this most of the year they moan ‘oooh it’s too hot’.

Yes I am cross and grumpy. I’m going to an outdoor party tonight. Surely people can see it would be more pleasant in the 20s than freezing and pissing it down? I’ll have to wear a big coat over my lovely halter neck dress (sob).

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 13:34

Having the occasional day when you stay in and watch old films is fine. But not every bloody weekend.
And its thunder and lightening here now, so I am even going to put off going to the supermarket for a bit. The cat is hiding.

RampantIvy · 15/06/2024 13:50

I haven't had any outdoor bike rides this year, so I ended up buying an exercise bike. I am getting the exercise, but more screen time, no vitamin D and no fresh air.

For the heat haters we aren't asking for a heatwave, just for some warm and dry weather. 20 - 25 degrees will do nicely.

Delatron · 15/06/2024 13:55

Yes it would just be nice to not have every outdoor event ruined. How can people wish for that? No matter how much you love lying under that blanket endlessly.

So weddings, festivals, BBQs (oh but they’re too noisy boo hoo), summer parties, sporting events. My son’s cricket was rained off today - not a massive deal but would have been lovely for him to get some fresh air and exercise as a grumpy teen!! . This weather (after a shit summer last year and a rainy winter) is really impacting people’s physical and mental health.

Disturbia81 · 15/06/2024 14:01

@MyQuaintDog @MaryMaryVeryContrary That's presumptuous, I'm on minimum wage and don't have money for extra activities. As much as I love staying in I also love being out and about in the fresh air. But when the option is not there, I'll make the best of it and enjoy my time inside. No point being miserable about it is there.

To be fair (and I'm sick of the rain) I live in a small apartment and all my exercise is done inside except netball! But I worked out for me it was cheaper/better than a gym and more likely I would exercise. Especially with this fucking bastard rain Angry

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 14:23

@Disturbia81 can I ask what you are doing today?

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 14:23

@Disturbia81 can I ask what you are doing today?

Done a few house jobs, decorating and now "festering" in my blanket with fire on watching Netflix. 😆
I'd rather be outdoors doing my gardening, can't mow my lawn or trim hedge with this rain. But oh well, making the best of it as can't be helped.

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 14:36

So housework, DIY and TV. Hardly fun things.

Delatron · 15/06/2024 14:36

Ah of course she’s under a bloody blanket. Sounds lots of fun.

Theedgeoftheabyss · 15/06/2024 14:44

I'm wearing cuddly socks, slippers, three layers and a jumper. The sky is that heavy, pale and noncommittal shade of rainy grey or occasionally bright grey. There is a constant smell of slight damp which is annoying me now. F.... This..... S...... . And I'm usually the first one to say that weather shouldn't stop you from getting out but Christ alive, this is depressing. As in, my spirits sink. It's the constant grey. The constant wind. The constant dampness.

Disturbia81 · 15/06/2024 14:46

MyQuaintDog · 15/06/2024 14:36

Didn't say they were fun. Difference is I'm being positive about it instead of miserable.. helps in all areas of life. How do you cope with the long winter? Anyway will leave you to your moaning.

Booksandflowers · 15/06/2024 14:55

I need a blue sky and some sunshine. I love the hot weather but even so, happy for it not to be roasting just warm. Sick of wearing coats and jumpers in June and feeling like the heating needs to be on in the evenings.

PenelopeBridgerton · 15/06/2024 15:10

I definitely think this is having an impact on people's mental health, I am by no means a sun worshipper but the endless rain and wind is really dreary. I am a homebody and love Netflix and a blanket but not all year round! And everyone just looks miserable trudging round in the rain, events people have paid a lot for are ruined, etc.

RampantIvy · 15/06/2024 15:32

I shouldn't be sat at home, but out drumming up volunteers for the charity I volunteer with, but the event we were going to take part in has been cancelled.

Iamtarticus · 15/06/2024 15:58

At least it's not like June 2007

The selfish blanket fester gang don’t care about all these events (especially charity ones) that are cancelled because of the weather. Just as long as they are happy, all snuggly, lying under that blanket on the sofa for the 11th month of the year…
