Anyone else loving the weather?

I'm so enjoying the cooler than normal weather. I can spend more time in the garden without getting hot and sweaty. Love sleeping in a cool bed. Can go for nice long walks. Less noise from neighbours. Win. Win.

No it can piss off!! I'm sick of constantly getting wet through.

Vicliz24 · 15/06/2024 16:48

It's rained heavily for the whole 3 hours I was out today. Freezing drowned rat is a look that can f**k off until November.

silverneedle · 15/06/2024 17:07

Hate it! We don’t have long summers as is - this cold in June is grim. Warming up a bit Monday onwards, 18-20c, thank goodness.

Jet stream’s fault apparently. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/cold-weath

Yes I am!

Can't stand the heatwaves, when you're hot even sitting still, and don't get any sleep because it's too hot to get comfortable

Not asking for heatwaves (which I also hate) but some warmer weather and dry days would be nice.

How can anyone honestly like the constant rain, the constant grey sky and still having to wear winter clothes?

I went out earlier, in the torrential rain, and was wearing a Tshirt, a jumper and a thick jacket. Only just warm enough.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 15/06/2024 17:43

No.

I certainly don't like it too hot (early 20s max) but it's really annoying at the moment - windy, sunny one minute and raining the next. And whilst it's a pleasant temperature when the sun is out, it goes freezing the next minute when the clouds come over so you can't plan anything out of doors .

Notatthemoment · 15/06/2024 17:51

I'm a bit peed off at not getting a chance to wear my summer clothes but generally its a thumbs up from me. Less noisy neighbours with BBQs and horrible sweaty nights without sleep. Every few years we get cool summers and this year is one of those so far. I quite like the unpredictability of British weather.

Except it's not cool is it, it's bloody cold. I still have the heating on and am wearing winter clothes every day

I wouldn't say it was cool, it's bloody freezing! And unpredictable weather is fine but it's not even unpredictable it's just constant rain, hail, more rain, wind, even more rain and occasionally thunder storms...

Vates · 15/06/2024 19:16

I have been loving the weather so far. I can remember the heat wave last year and it being 33/34 in my bedroom and couldn't get a wink of sleep. I much prefer feeling cool! It is 19.8 in my flat right now and I have the fan on the lowest setting. I don't mind the rain either, even getting caught in it at 7am yesterday.

VintageBrass · 15/06/2024 20:56

The only downside for me has been less bootsales.

But I just love the cool nights 🩵

What part of the UK are you in? The heatwave last year lasted about 10 days in June. It pissed it down all July, August was cool, then we had a nice week in September, and that was it.

It isn't cool in most of the UK right now. It is cold.

ForGreyKoala · 15/06/2024 23:00

Disturbia81 · 15/06/2024 13:11

So what are you doing instead?
It's about making the best of a situation instead of being negative about it, we can't change it.

Oh for goodness sake! Given that the UK weather appears to have been dire for many, many, months there comes a time when "making the best of a situation" loses its novelty. People are allowed to be fed up and complain, and yes, even be negative.

Disturbia81 · 15/06/2024 23:06

@ForGreyKoala Go on, keep ranting.. you might warm up a bit ♥️

AngryPrincess · 15/06/2024 23:49

yep.

MyQuaintDog · 16/06/2024 01:07

@Vates it has been cold in my house, about 16/17, which is why I put the heating on.

RainyDayLove · 16/06/2024 05:32

Re: my job; I am a District Nurse, so even slightly warmer weather for me is exacerbated a fair bit by having to be wrapped up in plastic PPE and a heavy uniform while I dress heavy legs in already very warm homes (either due to being on a high floor of a block of flats, or who have the heating on long after many others will have turned it off, which is of course their right in their own home) for example, and the sun heating up my car. It's not necessarily the ambient temperature, it's the impact it then has on the working conditions I am in.

I do find it a bit odd that anyone who enjoys this weather is dismissed as just wanting to be 'snuggled under a blanket on the sofa'. I wear my lighter clothing while it's cool as well, and blankets are long since put away in the shed, as my flat is at 23 degrees or so already, being so high and south-facing windows. I am out and about socially, not vegetating at home. Like I say, I appreciate that this is selfish and most people don't feel this way, but it's a shame that the acknowledgement that some people might have a preference towards cool, rainy and grey weather isn't also seen as valid.

It's like bad weather bingo!

People hate others having a good time and enjoying themselves. Someone always comes along to moan about their noisy neighbours having a BBQ. I mean how very dare people enjoy themselves.

Someone will come along and complain about people doing DIY or cutting the grass when it's warm weather soon.

Michiru · 16/06/2024 07:45

I hate it. My garden is overrun with slugs, which have ruined the few strawberries I;ve grown that haven't gone mouldy in the permanently damp soil. Most other crops have been ruined with mould or not grown at all.

Food prices later on this year will rise sharply, at a time when people already have no money.

I can't get out to weed my garden because everything is soaked, can't mow the grass because my push mower slips on the mud instead of cutting the grass, can't weatherproof my fence and any other wooden bits because it's never dry long enough for the wood to dry out sufficiently to be treated, so will be faced with rot soon.

I have damp in my downstairs toilet which is the only room in the house without heating and it has now started to get black mould (so far I can use bleach and wipe it away, but I'm worried it will stay in the walls).

I have had roofers refuse to come out in the weather to deal with an issue I've been having, and no builder will touch the side walls until it gets drier - both, I have been told, are not safe in this wet weather. How traders get sufficient work if they rely on sensible weather this year is beyond me.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2024 08:07

The wet weather lovers just refuse to see the bigger picture @Michiru . As long as they can "snuggle" under a "cosy" blanket drinking hot chocolate sod everyone else.

Sod the farmers and everyone else whose livelihoods are being affected, sod the home owners who can't get tradesmen/builders to carry out essential work, sod everyone whose mental health is being affected, sod the people struggling to keep their houses warm or dry their washing, sod the charities who benefit from all the outdoor fund raising events that have been cancelled.

As long as they don't have to venture out from under their blankets they are OK.

Actually I'm going out more because of the cooler weather. Blazing hot sun is not compatible with long walks or working in the garden.

Nor is torrential rain though?

Again no one is asking for blazing sun but warm dry weather would surely be preferable than having to don wellies, a winter coat and gloves for a walk in mid June.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2024 08:15

We need it to stop raining not have 30 degree heat @VintageBrass . That isn't wishing for too much.

A family member is a landscape gardener. He can't do any work right now.

Whinge · 16/06/2024 08:17

Why do people keep mentioning a blazing hot sun Confused No one is asking for a bloody heatwave, we just want it to be dry and slightly warm, which is what you expect in the middle of June.

I refuse to believe anyone is going out more in heavy rain, wind and cold weather (not cooler). Yesterday it was 14°, we had torrential downpours and plenty of umbrellas turning inside out due to the wind. Trust me when I say no one was going for a long walk or working in their garden.

Baneofmyexistence · 16/06/2024 08:29

I’m happy it’s a bit cooler temperature wise but the constant rain and cold could absolutely sod off for me! I want to put my washing on the line and not carry coats and umbrellas everywhere with me! We are definitely going out less because of the weather, it’s rained all week here, no one is going out more!
