What would you rustle me up? Too late to go to the shops on Sunday so has to be what you already have in.

I could maybe do you an egg on toast or some mushrooms on toast. Or I have a bit of lunch leftover - chicken, red onion and yellow pepper in a honey and lime sauce. Nothing else in the house.

Sure - DH might be surprised to find a random mumsnetter here when he gets home from work but as long as there is plenty of dinner I’m sure he wouldn’t mind!

🤣🤣🤣

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 09/06/2024 18:32

@Rosscameasdoody - basically slow cooker means don’t add liquid more than bare minimum.

You’d be in luck with us, we got one of those Too Good to Go bags from Aldi, and it included a huge crackling pork joint that feeds 6… plenty of that going spare

That sounds like a bargain! How much did you have to pay for it?

My pulled pork- so if I’m being lazy I use a bottle of bbq sauce, if not, mix 3x big teaspoon mustard, 6x dessert spoons ketchup, honey(usually a big squeeze, guessing I use about 2 spoonfuls?) or maple syrup, cumin, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, sometimes a bit of veg stock cube, and rub over pork, saving a bit to go on the bottom of the slow cooker. (If going lazy option, shove some bbq sauce on the bottom of the slow cooker, add pork, dollop more jar/bottle sauce on top, buy fanciest looking bbq sauce!)

put in pork on high for 2 hours then low until dinner, about 6 or 7 hours. I usually add about 1 cup of boiled water in the first 2 hours. Temptation is to add more water - do not unless it’s completely dried out!

take the pork out and pull then put in a different bowl/serving dish, add a couple of spoonfuls of the cooking liquid and then I often mix in some bottle bbq sauce. (Because best will in the world, I never make up extra of my own sauce for this bit).

if you want to be fancy, swap the water for some cider or apple juice.

Thank you - have copied and pasted and will try this. Sounds fab.

Well, you've missed Sunday dinner, we had that at lunchtime. Actually been at a National Trust place all afternoon with DD and had cake so unlikely to get anything here. Tea or coffee maybe and a biscuit?
However, this reminded me I had not taken any bread out of the freezer for tomorrow so you may get a slice of toast and some ham, as there seems to be plenty of that in the fridge.
There's also some box of a green cuisine thing in the freezer that says chicken free Southern fried strips if you want to try that with some peas. I must have bought that for a competition but the QR code isn't working so not impressed with that.

Think that’s where I’ve been going wrong - mine is always swamped with liquid as I’m basically terrified of it drying out. Will try it your way - and thanks again.

£3.30, we also got mushrooms Brussels sprouts some crumpets and two boxes of mushrooms, not a bad shout

HackAttack · 09/06/2024 18:47

Sushi rice bowls here tonight!

IcouldbutIdontwantto · 09/06/2024 18:48

We're on holiday, so if you turned up at ours, you'd be bitterly disappointed 😆, if you've tracked us down though you'd be having mixed seafood in a tomatoey/garlic sauce with a baguette for dipping (small portion though as its just me and DH eating it)

VotesForWomen · 09/06/2024 18:57

Are you low carb? I've got a rather good courgette lasagne that I could share with you. Probably salad on the side. a tiny low sugar chocolate pot for pud if you want it.

Too late Iv eaten my katsu that I offered earlier in the thread

but hey @JackThayer what about you? What are you offering if I turn up for dinner?

TooMuchRedMaybe · 09/06/2024 19:41

Pad Thai with tofu tonight as that's what I was already making.

Cliedi · 09/06/2024 19:53

Tonight you’d get some Brie, chutney, hummus, olives, salami, with crusty bread. I wasn’t going to open a bottle of red but seeing as it’s you!

Normally if you rocked up on a Sunday unannounced we would be ordering Chinese

Badassnameforadojo · 09/06/2024 19:56

In Scotland, the supermarket is open. We don’t have restrictions. My supermarket is still open now, and there is a 24 hour Asda just a little bit further away. So we could get anything you want.

mamaduckbone · 09/06/2024 20:01

We've already eaten but there's some chicken and roast new potatoes left over so I could rustle you up a salad to go with them.
I'd pretty much always be able to make you pasta or risotto with something we have knocking around.

CrushingOnRubies · 09/06/2024 20:16

I made a shit ton of colslaw for a party. Chicken in the freezer, chips, ham and some bread.

So like a Boxing Day style buffet thing

CrushingOnRubies · 09/06/2024 20:18

Oh have new potato's so could rustle up a potato salad as well

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 09/06/2024 20:25

Too late for the chicken casserole now, all you'll get is bones.

MintyCedric · 09/06/2024 20:31

Beef and bean burritos and sweet potato fries.

wintersgold · 09/06/2024 20:33
