What would you rustle me up? Too late to go to the shops on Sunday so has to be what you already have in.

I can always make you a green/red/ massaman Thai curry . With Jasmine rice .: half Thai household so never without the necessary..

Oooh do you have a good massaman recipe that doesn't involve shop bought paste?

Getonwitit · 09/06/2024 18:06

Mash, sausages with roast onion gravy and 3 different veg, Fresh bread to mop up the gravy.

TerfTalking · 09/06/2024 18:06

I’ve eaten, so I would be a bit pissed off. I do have the right ingredients for a rip off TGI Fridays creamy Cajun chicken pasta in the fridge which would take me about 15 minutes to make without defrosting anything else.

It was what I was having tomorrow so that would make me doubly grumpy.

PadstowGirl · 09/06/2024 18:08

Pork and apple casserole, Yorkshire pudd, mash, broccoli and carrots. I've made enough for 10 portions as kids like to take done home with them.

Zone2NorthLondon · 09/06/2024 18:08

Lentil spag Bol. Salad.

NewLifter · 09/06/2024 18:09

I'm a mumsnetter, so obviously I wouldn't answer the door to you!

We’ve got pulled pork in the slow cooker, it’s far more than we need so probably would just throw in extra jacket potatoes and sweet corn to go with.

Can you tell me how you do it please ? Have attempted a couple of pulled pork recipes in the slow cooker and all have been disappointing.

OneThreadOnly · 09/06/2024 18:10

Fried rice with whatever protein I had handy, today that’s prawns but would usually be chicken. Tender stem broccoli, peas & corn in there.

We always have rice and veggies in and it can be rustled up with little effort for a surprise guest.

WhySoManySocks · 09/06/2024 18:11

Leftover curry.

A bacon and egg sandwich.

Pasta with prawns.

Beans on toast.

Some crisps and a bottle of red.

Rosscameasdoody · 09/06/2024 18:12

We’re having home made lamb pasanda with pilau rice, garlic mushrooms, naan bread and probably chips if my DH has anything to do with it. Plenty to go round so you’re welcome here OP !!

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 09/06/2024 18:13

DDs friend just got spaghetti hoops and toast. They were given a few other quick and easy options but that was the favoured option.

Isometimeswonder · 09/06/2024 18:14

You'd be having pizza... from Domino's which you'll pay for as you've turned up with no notice!!
Or toast, it's all I have

Speaking for myself I’m a shit cook and I’m turning up unannounced to several posters homes if the description of the food on offer is anything to go by !! All sounds fab.

NorthernGirlie · 09/06/2024 18:18

Tonight you'd get cottage pie and veg
Tomorrow you'd get chicken fajita pasta
Tuesday you'd get spicy pork bellyand jacket potato
Wednesday you'd get corned beef stew

By Thursday you'd be on whatever is in the freezer!

MountCaramel · 09/06/2024 18:19

Chicken curry, daal, veg side and paaratha
Vanilla icecream and tinned mangoes

DilemmaDelilah · 09/06/2024 18:20

We're having fishcakes and peas tonight so there won't be any extra, but if you turned up at mine (and I liked you) I would have no problem in rustling something up! (Fishcakes would go in the fridge for tomorrow). Shopping doesn't arrive until tomorrow but I always have stuff in the freezer/cupboard. Something with pasta probably, or a fry up. I have bacon, sausages and eggs. We have chips in the freezer and baked beans in the cupboard. If you gave me a bit more time I have a couple of pork tenderloins in the freezer I could defrost and cook with a Chinese marinade, served with rice and whatever veg is in the freezer. I only have carrots and onions otherwise.

I could do a lovely chocolate sponge and custard for pud, or a fruit crumble.

Does that suit?

HNY2023 · 09/06/2024 18:23

Either prawns broccoli and spicy tomato sauce with pasta. Garlic bread as a side

or

rice, chorizo, prawns, veg and spicy rice ( bit like a paella)

These are my store cupboard quick meals !

GrannyOgre · 09/06/2024 18:23

It’s Sunday, so you’d get a roast. Very easy to eke out for unexpected guests with extra veg and trimmings.

If you came on the day before the shopping arrives… I always have eggs, butter and cheese in the fridge, bacon/pancetta in the fridge or freezer, homegrown salad, and store cupboard ingredients so probably spaghetti carbonara with salad or quiche Lorraine, if I have cream. There’s always fruit for a fruit salad. You might get burnt Basque cheesecake or Eton mess, again if there is cream…

Although we’re in Central London so Sunday trading hours are until 6pm and Deliveroo will oblige with groceries in 10-20 mins 24/7.

MaGueule · 09/06/2024 18:23

Come on the next hour and you’ll get:

BBQ wild garlic lamb kebabs
Aubergine and chickpea Bharat stew
Homemade garlic flatbreads
Baby potatoes with garlic and rosemary
Green beans with almonds
Rocket salad

There’s an Austrian Pinot noir or Adnams 0% Ghost Ship for the grown ups.

Strawberries and cream (okay, ice cream if you insist) for pudding, and lemon and poppyseed sponge for second pudding.

And you’ll get to meet my lovely friend and her family as they are over to celebrate her ordination. They’ve not even arrived and DH has already done all the ‘oooh, vicar!’ jokes thrice over.

Sure - DH might be surprised to find a random mumsnetter here when he gets home from work but as long as there is plenty of dinner I’m sure he wouldn’t mind!

Can you tell me how you do it please ? Have attempted a couple of pulled pork recipes in the slow cooker and all have been disappointing.

My pulled pork- so if I’m being lazy I use a bottle of bbq sauce, if not, mix 3x big teaspoon mustard, 6x dessert spoons ketchup, honey(usually a big squeeze, guessing I use about 2 spoonfuls?) or maple syrup, cumin, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, sometimes a bit of veg stock cube, and rub over pork, saving a bit to go on the bottom of the slow cooker. (If going lazy option, shove some bbq sauce on the bottom of the slow cooker, add pork, dollop more jar/bottle sauce on top, buy fanciest looking bbq sauce!)

put in pork on high for 2 hours then low until dinner, about 6 or 7 hours. I usually add about 1 cup of boiled water in the first 2 hours. Temptation is to add more water - do not unless it’s completely dried out!

take the pork out and pull then put in a different bowl/serving dish, add a couple of spoonfuls of the cooking liquid and then I often mix in some bottle bbq sauce. (Because best will in the world, I never make up extra of my own sauce for this bit).

if you want to be fancy, swap the water for some cider or apple juice.

Wow. Corned beef stew. We live in the north west and literally no-one we know has heard of this - I hadn’t before I met my partner a few years ago and he showed me how to make it. It’s a staple in our house now and I can highly recommend it.

Heyhoitsme · 09/06/2024 18:26

I've got two salmon fillets. You can have one because DH isn't that fussy on salmon.
