You simply are not capable of seeing that this poster meant zero offence and has explained their thinking in the beautiful and rich language that is Greek.

Your refusal to not see this nuance is your own ignorance. If you speak Greek, which i highly doubt you do, you would have not commented.

Bit of hubris there yourself, I think! I know what hubris is - and so do you, if you’re Greek. Lefti specifically mentioned the Greek myths and their examples of hubris but misrepresented what hubris means in their recent post above. However, they did, in fact, explain it pretty well in their initial comments when they referred to it as “over confidence”. Because that’s what it means, isn’t it? And after that comes nemesis. The references to that were clear.

Now they’re trying to pretend that’s not what they said - but it was. And yes, they write well and their English is excellent - which is why I very much doubt that they wrote “over confident” when they meant “self confident”.

Not that it’s any of your business, but I have a professional reason for knowing some Ancient Greek and the stories associated with hubris. Hubris is not something MM showed at all. He lacked full knowledge of the path ahead or got lost. He was no Icarus and there’s zero evidence he showed hubris.

See above. It’s eminently clear what was meant, and that definition of hubris that they wrote is an accepted one, along with similar phrases.

And it seems MNHQ took care of several of Manifesto's posts. This thread is getting quite holey...

Btw, re your English, FWIW I thought you were British. What is your first language out interest?

I am leaving this thread,

It is disgusting you have been pulled up for what is merely poetic prose. And for someone who writes far better in the English language than most on here, it is laughable.

Anyone who isn't a dimwit would have recognised the compassion and sorrow in your posting and the compassion in the way you write @LefkaOri

All the while asshole, ignorants can get away with their xenophobic and rampant attacks of a small Greek island that did their absolute best to save this lovely man.

I pity this place. It really is deluged with people who delight in being unpleasant.

Because you reported them with weak reasons.

I said nothing that warranted deletion.

Why do you assume I reported them? They weren't to me.

I can see they were deleted from the page in front of me 🙄

if you don't think they warranted deletion, take it up with MNHQ. Occasionally they reinstate!

'All the while asshole, ignorants can get away with their xenophobic and rampant attacks of a small Greek island that did their absolute best to save this lovely man.'

You must try and stop lashing out. There is nothig 'xenophobic' about questioning the actions of the search team. I'd have had the same opinion if it had happened on a tiny Scottish island and it had taken days to go through the footage from 3 cameras.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 12/06/2024 19:18

Oh dear. I've started a new medication today and presumably as a result have fallen asleep and slept all afternoon. Just woken up and all hell seems to have broken loose on the thread.

I for one am glad that if he had to die anywhere, which I'm sad about, he died in such a beautiful place.

It would not have changed the outcome though so why does it matter?

WriterOfWrongs · 12/06/2024 19:37

You thought they were British based on the standard of their written English?

@ManifestoTweak I did yes, based on their earlier posts on these threads, which were somewhat different in style.

But thanks for the insult.

Anyway...

He did indeed @IdisagreeMrHochhauser

This man is only 59 and a retired police officer

Hasnt everyone said their piece yet? It was a tragedy what happenned. There can be no blame, any search or cctv scanning wouldnt have changed the outcome.

They clearly know better. Yet when they go missing, all emergency services must be deployed.

God help us if all CCTV isn't available within the 1 hour window of the say so of @Janiie

Hiking in temperatures above 30 degrees should be met with a hefty fine.

I've been! Worked in Athens as a student and like many have visited pretty Greek Islands. Lovely places and lovely locals.

They may have worked around the clock but again, if they'd viewed the very limited cctv in a more timely manner they'd have found him and prevented days of searching in the heat. Lessons hopefully will be learnt.

'Your like'. Honestly, that's not the way to talk to people.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 12/06/2024 20:23

I suppose it's just illustrates that there is currently a heatwave in Greece that can catch people out, which I raise after people spent days talking about 'elderly' people. (Please don't start again). We don't know if he is a fighting fit, chasing after criminals kind of officer or the sitting eating doughnuts kind of officer but he is clearly not elderly. Apparently had set off at 7am presumably to miss the main heat of the day too.

When I went to Greece there was also a heatwave and they'd closed several tourist attractions in Athens as a result. It was incredibly hot. It's likely that Michael Mosley won't be the only death as a result of it this year.

Passiflora2 · 12/06/2024 23:33

GreatOcean · 12/06/2024 12:46

It's also important that he was found face-up.

If he collapsed from heat exhaustion you'd be sat, or face forward - being found face up to me would indicate he was already in severe distress, fell, and wasn't conscious even when he landed/rolled to a stop at the fence.

Or he just lay down on his back!

Christ0nABike · 13/06/2024 11:58

Isn’t medical advice when feeling faint to lie down with your legs elevated? I thought that’s exactly how he was found, ie it was intentional.

DuckEggy · 13/06/2024 12:10

I'm really upset to read the Standard report that MM was captured on film going down that rocky hill, and the footage was given to police soon after he was announced missing.

I have experienced Greece extensively outside of holidays, and for that reason, we never went on a family holiday to Greece as I didn't not have sufficient faith in the medical system/police etc and those running services.

Thisoldheartofmine · 13/06/2024 13:00

@IdisagreeMrHochhauser I was going to repost the BBC link to their reporter discussing what they'd been shown in the Aga marina CCTV.
It really cleared up my confusion and I wanted to help another poster who was simaraliy confused.
It's been removed for editorial reasons which I can understand as was probably deemed too sensitive.
Sorry, don't really know why I'm posting !

Exactly. And during the post mortem the position of his body was part of the evidence that he died of natural causes. They said he clearly deliberately lied in that position and therefore it wasn't a fall or foul play. If it had been a fall or he'd been attacked he would have been in different position - but they said he stopped and rested in that position then died.
