@Oaktree55 That may be but how do you know his intention? Using Occum’s Razor if looks like he missed the bus. Attempted the normal route and took a wrong turn. Had an accident, stumbled to a place where their were people, lay in the shade but didn’t make it safely but was found so his family have closure.

And why is your tone so cruel. Have some bloody humanity.

WhatsitWiggle · 09/06/2024 12:40

Inevitable outcome after so many days searching, but very sad nevertheless. We'll likely never know what prompted him to walk in that direction. I do hope he didn't suffer.

I followed the 5:2 intermittent fasting for several months after struggling to lose any weight with regular calorie controlling. And my now-ex husband is using the blood sugar diet to control (and hopefully reverse) his type 2 diabetes.

Dr Mosley's work in making nutritional information accessible and meaningful to the masses will hopefully live on as his legacy.

Sorry I must have missed this post. Im glad youre asking the same questions as it's really unclear. Is there a gate at the south side or is that just a guess? It would make sense, as I cant see any other reason why he'd be on that north side. I wonder why the whole area is fenced off anyway. I read on the Times page yesterday about other people making the walk from Pedi to Agia Marina, seems only about half an hour walk and there's that cafe when you get there so it seems strange to lock a gate during daylight hours when there may be people wanting to visit.

I mean the man was possibly dehydrated and boiling hot. He also may have been quite fit, but he was pre diabetic, which was why he started looking into yhe health stuff in the first place. The most reasonable explanation looking at the map is that he didn't want to wait for the boat at 4pm, didn't want to cut short his wife's day at the beach, so said he's walk back along what tobthe untrained eye looks like a fairly straightforward walk slong the coast, got lost and disorientated and fell. No ones fault. Jeremy Vine, on his show said they often talked about ' digital detoxes' on holiday so he thinks he would have left his phone at home for that reason. Easy with hindsight to say ' why did he do this and that' but people make decisions all the time thst dont seem unwise until something goes wrong.

It is a tragedy anyway but even more so that he was so close to the safety of the beach with its shade, people and bar where water was.

Godspeed Dr Mosley.

@Goldenbear No-one is saying Brits never tan. But most do go red as they stay out in it too long. It's a fact.

Rosejinkyb · 09/06/2024 12:43

@Oaktree55 you’ve made your horrible point. Are you glowing now?

Why don't you give it a rest? His family must be devastated and all you can do is be a dick about him.

@Oaktree55 You've been making a lot of insensitive comments on all of this over the days.

Can you JUST STOP?

This is not the time for your comments berating a deceased man.

Have you no emotional intelligence?

Honestly, someone's husband and father has just died and you're all over social media criticising them.

Have a heart FGS.

WitchyWay · 09/06/2024 12:46

Do you know what? We all make silly mistakes in life. I like to consider myself a fairly sensible person, but I've put myself in risky situations before and am thankful I've come out unscathed. Some people aren't so lucky and Michael was one of those.

LOADS of people take shortcuts on ways home, walk after dark, walk in places they don't know, or when they're tipsy, or do so under prepared for the conditions.

There are no conspiracies here. It is simple a very sad situation where a good person has made a choice that didn't end well.

I hope, in time, his family find peace knowing he passed having had a good life, with a loving family and while in a beautiful place.

Lots of love to Michael and his family. I'm so sorry this happened.

ducktapez · 09/06/2024 12:48

XjustagirlX · 09/06/2024 12:34

@ducktapez ye i posted earlier that the route is a walking route that some people do so there must be a way down. He either couldn’t get though the access or didn’t spot it.

more likely I expect he didn’t spot it due to not thinking straight due to the heat

I now think he took a different path to the one google maps suggests. You can see on this pic there is a different path/trail that leads to the north side of the cafe area.

This is such tragic news, my thoughts are with his poor family. He seemed like a genuinely good soul.

I've seen the maps of the route he was taking and I don't fully understand it, did he mean to get back to Symi via the place he was found, or had he taken a completely wrong turn? Someone must have given him directions, since it was their first day there. It looks like a walk that would take a couple of hours

Is your desire to be "right" so much more important to you than humanity?

Did you miss the posts on previous threads from relatives of missing people who described how deeply online opinions affected them on top of the devastation of the event itself?

Why would you want to be part of that? Just because you are can? Or just because you want to be 'right'?

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 09/06/2024 12:50

Lilacdew · 09/06/2024 10:12

I hope it this is true, it gave the family a chance to take in the news without the glare of press.

The body was spotted by ERT news cameras this morning. That has been confirmed.

Kona84 · 09/06/2024 12:51

He probably spotted the monastery on the way to the beach in the morning and overestimated how long it would take on foot.

i hope they find that he had water and other provisions with him as it would put quiet some of the theories that he was lost.

he was a grown man with agency and probably commonly went on solo strolls.
hindsight is amazing and I’m sure his wife wishes she hadnt let him go but no one says goodbye to someone and expects it will be the last time they get to.

His pre diabetes was in remission through his fasting 5:2 that is why he advocated for it so much he knew it was a game changer in the diabetic world and for health.

I am really sorry for his families loss and the loss to the health science community.

Bunnycat101 · 09/06/2024 12:51

like many I was hoping for a miracle even though the ending was inevitable. I think this case has captured attention because it was someone famous but also he was doing something so normal that anyone might have done. It does make you contemplate your own mortality and really does show you never know when your time is up. I hope the press will leave his wife and family alone- they’ve been though a terrible event and it can’t be easy with the glare of the media on them and all of the tasteless speculation.

I'm going to report you @Oaktree55

Your posts are crass and insensitive.

Everyone is suggesting you back off.

This is not the time to start blaming MM .

Can't you see that?

Girlofyourdreams · 09/06/2024 12:57

@Oaktree55 there's honestly something very wrong with you. You seem to e lacking in any kind of empathy. You're embarrassing yourself too.

Newyearoldhair · 09/06/2024 12:57

I live in the Mediterranean ( Southern Spain)
Heatstroke can hit very suddenly and leave you totally disorientated . I had it last year- Im a HCP myself and still didnt realise until I was quite ill. My DH found me on the bed with a dressing gown and duvet over me. My brain was telling me that I was cold.
When my neighbour had it we had to get an ambulance as his temperature wasnt coming down even with a tepid water shower and a fan on him. He was getting combative with us .
This is a terrible, horrible tragedy but nothing more, I hope the conspiracy idiots stop now and let the poor family grieve in peace.

What is wrong with you? This is not the time or place for such a contribution. A man has died and his very real family will be devastated. You've no idea what decisions were or were not taken. I'm appalled.

Rosejinkyb · 09/06/2024 12:58

@Oaktree55 You are not privy to the decision he made therefore you cannot define it as reckless. Stop repeating your point we heard you the first time.

XjustagirlX · 09/06/2024 12:59

@ducktapez im struggling to see the north side path?

Conniebygaslight · 09/06/2024 12:59

Wynterbun · 09/06/2024 09:45

The body was almost certain found yesterday which is why many news sources stopped updating their articles. DM then put up an exclusive headliner story saying they were searching the Abyss cave systems that stayed in place until this morning. It seemed like a very odd thing to run as "exclusive" because it's simply a fact and not an exclusive interview or footage. At the time they already know a body was found in there so obviously the next breaking news this morning was confirming the fact. So the poster on MN who noticed a lot of news outlets slowing down their reporting wasn't wrong, and she was slated for it.

Very sad and RIP.

Thank you. Yes I was slated so I just didn’t respond. It really seemed to have quietened and I suspected they may have found him. Obviously I could still be wrong about that in terms of timings etc. I’m so gutted at this outcome like everyone else on here. RIP to a wonderful & revolutionary man.💔
