Just ignore trolls. They only keep trolling because you feed them.
You can see how a certain poster is enjoying annoying everyone and will insist on having the last word. Don’t give them ammo.

@Oaktree55 there's honestly something very wrong with you. You seem to e lacking in any kind of empathy. You're embarrassing yourself too.

Just a troll. Best to ignore people like that, they're after attention.

@Oaktree55 what a truly nasty piece of work you are.

Even a psychopath would show more empathy.

Thread reinstated, but forever tarnished by a lack of decency, appropriateness, respect and humanity.
It’s a shame not all of us could stick to expressing our shock, sadness and sympathy for his family; and perhaps say how MM positively impacted us.
I lost 2 stone intermittent fasting, and loved Michael’s “Just One Thing “ podcasts.

Willmafrockfit · 09/06/2024 09:48

ironic he wrote a piece for the guardian in 2016 saying no male in his family lived longer than 72. and now includes him. Sad

That's not what ironic means.

Aquarius1234 · 09/06/2024 16:58

No idea what happened.
I don't quite understand the incredible climb word from the statement.
As I'm sure it wasn't supposed to be a full on climb in the crazy heat.
Seemed more a hurry to get out of where ever.

I am so sorry to hear this. I was really hoping he’d be found alive and well. I am so sorry to his family, friends and colleagues. I hope he didn’t suffer in his final moments. I would like to be able to pay my respects to him somehow, if possible. I think he did an excellent job of talking about complex science in an accessible way in his articles and TV and radio shows and of raising awareness of public health issues. I’m sure he will be very missed by many members of the public.

Lentilweaver · 09/06/2024 17:05

I am going to listen to his podcast to pay my respects, as it were. I need to lose some weight around my tummy and I am always interested in good communications.

I actually think @Willmafrockfit is correct and there is irony in this situation. A situation can be ironic if it turns out very differently to how you’d expect (ie. It is ironic that he dedicated much of his career to researching how we can live longer, healthier lives and yet, very sadly, his life ended at a relatively young age and he wasn’t able to live longer than his male ancestors). It’s both ironic and extremely sad.

KnitFastDieWarm · 09/06/2024 17:11

My dad is a similar age and temperament - a fit, active older man - and I can absolutely see him heading off for a walk alone like this and just having a moment of bad luck. I hope his family can take comfort in the fact that, if Dr Mosley was anything like my dad, he at least likely died doing something active that he enjoyed, rather than fading away in a hospital bed. I hope his memory is a blessing to all who loved him.

Goldenbear · 09/06/2024 17:11

Disturbia81 · 09/06/2024 12:42

@Goldenbear No-one is saying Brits never tan. But most do go red as they stay out in it too long. It's a fact.

What’s a fact? Not really; depends on your colouring surely? I have Scandinavian heritage and will go red if I go in the sun for too long, so really Northern European not just Brits. However, my DS never goes red, straight to Brown even with 50 factor on. Ultimately, it is a tragedy and bad luck; I think it is in poor taste with the Brit mocking comments.

Seeing that they’ve now reviewed cctv from and Ag Marina restaurant and he can be seen coming down that side area at 3.44 on the Wednesday then stumbling and not reemerging. So very very sad

Oh no, really.

How very sad.

Now footage found by the Agia Marina beach restaurant has shown him gingerly picking his way down a slope close to a fence then falling out of view at 3.44pm last Wednesday - two hours and 15 minutes after he left the St Nicholas restaurant.

It remains unclear whether he was trying to reach the water for a swim or trying to get back to the jetty where he could have picked up a boat to Pedi or Symi.
In the footage, he is not seen to get up and a customer is shown walking past the kiosk who could potentially have heard had there been any shout for help.

A coroner has now said an initial examination had ruled out foul play as there were 'no obvious injuries' to Dr Mosley's body - yet further tests would have to be carried out at a hospital in Rhodes to firmly establish the cause of death.

A spokesman for the coroner said: 'It looks like it was a fall but we need establish whether he had a medical episode before that and it will take time.'

That explains some of the comments in his wife's statement.

Yes. It’s worse on other social media platforms, fools posting about how there is some conspiracy or cover up. It’s so shocking.

Well at least you’re monitoring all the relevant social media platforms to keep people on the moral high ground /s

Very sad news, I hope he didn’t suffer.

I’m shocked there is footage of him falling though. They didn’t check CCTV before now?

It’s an obvious question to be asked. I think maybe they didn’t expect him to be there?

I really feel for the poor customer who the article says could potentially have heard any shout for help made. I imagine the authorities will want to question this customer as a witness, and the person may feel guilt that they may have missed something.

Girlofyourdreams · 09/06/2024 17:37

I wonder what he was up to. Whether he was trying to make his way back to the villa or whether he was just having an explore?

Anjelika · 09/06/2024 17:39

It is really tragic that he got so so near to help before collapsing. However, I can't help but think how different the outcome might have been if he'd just had his phone with him. He could have phoned his wife/friends to say he was in difficulty and the Police/Ambulance etc would have been able to locate him pretty easily through GPS. Similarly if he'd not had time to call them before succumbing to heatstroke or a heart attack the emergency services would have been able to locate him using GPS I imagine. It's certainly made me think twice about going anywhere without my phone.

from what was previously said, there were two routes back to where they were staying from where he was seen on cctv: a normal route and a bit of a treacherous route up the mountain, that the locals don't use in the heat.. the cctv show him starting up the treacherous route at 2pm, there's no way to tell if he thought that was the correct route to take, or if he wanted to have a longer walk back etc, but if he then took a wrong turn up there which his wife said is what happened he would have ended up going towards the resort he was found at (rather then the direction of their accommodation) and would explained why he came down the 'wrong' side of the resort.

He may have seen the resort in the distance and thought it would be easier to go there instead of any further round the path, but it meant climbing down to it.

It's so sad that he very nearly made it there.

It depends on how he felt and how far he was from the town. If he felt he could make it and overestimated his ability or he had a medical incident, it might not have made a difference.

I know that there are risks also associated with over reliance on your phone. Assuming that you will always have a signal and be able to get a map can go wrong, if you get lost and you don't have a signal. Reputable groups for activities which involve going somewhere for a walk, including scouts, stress the importance of having a physical map and an ability to read the land even in reduced visibility or at night for this very reason.

Its wise to have a phone, but its also wise to be aware of its limitations too.

Anjelika · 09/06/2024 17:51

@RedToothBrush good point but, in the absence of him having a map on him, I can't help but think having a phone on him might have resulted in a better outcome.

That is so, so sad. Hopefully it was extremely quick....a heart attack or other sudden event that meant he didn't have time to make any noise/shout out for help.

It is such a shame for his family that this CCTV wasn't reviewed earlier and they had to go through the agony of waiting and wondering for days. At least they will be able to have some of their questions answered.

He definitely leaves a legacy. And I certainly will be taking my phone with me on walks from now on which I don't usually do.
