Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

I don't think people forget that real families are involved.

And you also should realise that people on here have gone through similar things.

People going missing, is actually quite common

My own father went missing for a month, and was eventually found, passed away.

I remember everything we went through. I remember going out searching, I remember thinking of where he was at night, was he lying in the cold. I remember it all

i know what this family are going through, and i am thinking about them this week.

Someone going missing, happens to a lot of families actually.

How awful. I can’t imagine the pain.

To those I upset with my comment, I apologise. My beloved husband has very recently died, and the fact that Mr Mosley’s family let him go home alone struck a nerve with me. I didn’t think it through before commenting.
I'm so sorry .I think I'd feel the same.
And Carly too, how dreadful.Flowers

Also I think if he said he wasn't feeling well, why on earth didn't someone walk with him? It wasn't exactly a five min walk back.

That was basically what I said but have had a lot of criticism for saying it. I hope that doesn’t happen to you too!

Funkyslippers · 08/06/2024 10:17

I don't think there is anything sinister in his disappearance. I also don't think he would purposely go missing. Can't believe he would put his family through that. I believe, sadly, he's had an accident and if he was still on land he would have been found by now. I hope I'm wrong

You have no idea whether he would purposely go missing or not because you have no idea what his real life is like or what kind of person he is. His media personality could be far removed from his actual personality.
None of us know the man at all.

DwarfBeans · 08/06/2024 10:19

During the few times me and my DH have hiked, he always goes off track to relieve himself and I'm always worried he'll trip and get hurt.

Keeping my fingers crossed today for news for the family.

SabrinaThwaite · 08/06/2024 10:20

There’s a website, Alltrails.com, that shows some walking routes on Symi. One map shows the path that goes from Pedi to Symi Town, which runs parallel to the main road. That would seem to be the sensible route if you wanted to walk back but avoid the main road.

If it's a broken leg / ankle and they've been immobilised with a rucksack sensibly packed with water and snacks, sometimes. I don't know what the longest time between the start of a search and someone being found alive is. And it wouldn't be relevant here, because excessive heat is not an issue in the Scottish Highlands.

If he did have water I very much doubt it was more than one bottle. In that heat that would be totally insufficient. Unless he has crawled into a cave with shade and maybe water running down the walls it really isn’t looking good.

DwarfBeans · 08/06/2024 10:23

@Ilikeadrink14 you were criticised for saying the family should be ashamed. What's the point in apologising then downplaying what you posted?

CorylusAgain · 08/06/2024 10:23

Can you genuinely not see why people are critical?

Firstly, you have absolutely no idea of MM's health nor do you know what was actually said between him and whoever was on the beach.

Secondly do you not think those people who love MM will be eaten up by that that thought forever. If only I'd gone with him ...

What was the point you wanted to make by posting? It's a thought you had but why did it need publishing?

Also on Alltrails is the path to Agia Marina, which I get the impression is the one they think he may have taken? The reviews say it’s rough walking.

The hiking map also shows this path, and then one from Agia Marina to Symi Town running further north.

It seems a very strange decision to try and go this way, especially as they would have seen this area from the boat out to the beach in the morning. But, people do all kinds of irrational things, especially if feeling unwell or suffering from heat stress.

'What are you on about. The search wasn’t flawed, they had literally no idea if the first place they started was the right place or not. Neither did anyone else. They don’t have a crystal ball.'

No they didnt have a crystal ball just cctv that showed he wasn't anywhere near where they were searching and that wasn't found/released until Friday.

I think the first CCTV siting of MM was a restaurant.
Many family owned restaurants in early season don’t open all 7 days. I’ve been on many small Greek Island in springtime and they open weekends Friday - Sunday and build up as the island gets busier.
Hence CCTV released on Friday.

maudelovesharold · 08/06/2024 10:27

I don’t think it’s right to say that people are treating it as entertainment. Not everybody will have had the awful experience of a family member actually going missing, but most people will have felt that gnawing, stomach-churning anxiety when you lose sight of your child for a few minutes, or your teenager doesn’t return as planned from a party, it’s 3 in the morning and their phone is off…
All the theories and questions about the search are things you would constantly have in your mind, if someone you loved couldn’t be found. People can and do empathise with tragedies others are experiencing, even if they don’t know them.

The CCTV shows that he didn't set off from there but from the other side of Pedi. Apparently his wife has been searching a wooded area likely to be around the route in your map. It's now looking likely that he headed across the exposed rocky area.

Its so sad. When I saw the CCTV yesterday afternoon and the rescuers realised that all this time they'd been searching in the wrong place, my heart just sank. No one can survive without water for more than 48 hours in such hot temperatures. I just feel so sad for him, his wife and kids. He was clearly tired, dehydrated, he had no phone, no map, he clearly thought he knew where he was going, but having only been on the island for one day he didn't and was probably feeling the effects of the heat and the dehydration and made the wrong choice Sad

It's very strange. Personally, if I was feeling hot, exhausted or unwell, I would stick to a populated area, not continue down a remote path. I'm still wondering whether someone could have taken him.

If he's had an accident, then sadly, I think that he's unlikely to be alive after all this time in the heat. Unless he happens to be near a fresh water supply.

Yes I'd have guessed it was because the venue with the cctv would be closed. Its a shame no one though to ask them to open to let them view the cctv still if it's their day off what can they do Confused.

@MyQuaintDog I forget my phone all the time and also leave it behind deliberately but I've never accidentally left it in a public place.

I'm the opposite. Rarely forget to take my phones out but have accidentally left it in restaurants/cafes, etc on more than one occasion.

I suspect the phone thing is a red herring and nothing to be suspicious over.

Disturbia81 · 08/06/2024 10:39

@CaptainHaddocksPychotherapist Ahh it's you again, arguing on all threads with people 😂 I didn't say I was obsessed with it.

Disturbia81 · 08/06/2024 10:41

@Beemoth I agree anyone who uses it as entertainment is a sicko.
There will always be the odd bad egg but in general I do think there's nothing wrong with being so interested in it. For most it comes from a place of concern.

If I’m out and about in a hot country (Spain, Greece, etc.) I always have a big 2l bottle in my rucksack, as a little one is gone in no time. That’s if I’m just walking in a town. If I’m walking out in the sun there’s no way I’d be without a good sized bottle. Surely not just me?

Dehydration and tiredness affects judgement. And we all know how bad men are at asking for directions! My DH would rather take the wrong path than ask someone whether he's heading the right way.

The CCTV is so poignant, because he appears to pause and look into the shop and I wonder if he was contemplating buying a bottle of water? But then he continues on his way.

useitorlose · 08/06/2024 10:49

I was driving just now and listening to Uncanny. An advert for Michael's new podcast came on, it was eerie listening to his voice and knowing how desperate his family must be for news. Keeping them in my prayers.
