Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

If only they had you to run things properly for them eh?

What a rude thing to say. @Janiie is absolutely right. Why are you even on this thread with comments like that.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 08/06/2024 09:45

I'm not enjoying it. I woke up this morning dreading picking up my phone fearing bad news. I just want him to be ok. Tbh this thread isn't helping as it's full of people bickering and judging each other to feel superior. None of which helps anyone. But at least if there is a genuine news update then someone will hopefully post it here.

Carly944 · 08/06/2024 09:42

I wouldn't say people are enjoying the mystery.

People always get interested in a missing person's case. They want the person to be found.

It's also something to talk about as it is the top news story.

I don't know why some people think that we shouldn't talks about news stories on here. That is what forums are for.

If you look at any other forum, they are also talking about this missing persons case

Totally agree, some people get so moralistic about it but you can't expect others not to discuss and yes, even speculate it's just normal human behaviour. I really hope there's a good outcome, stranger things have happened.

I think with lots of those organisations the volunteers are the experts, you probably know more about it if you've done it.

Yes again no arguments from me on that! Certainly no disrespect to their experience and expertise. But I think that with volunteers, certainly in a lot of my experience here anyway, the mobilisation can’t always be as fast as it can when it’s someone’s only and paid job. Especially when they might be volunteering across a number of locations/capacities - eg: MR and also vol firefighter etc. Or, especially in high tourist areas during the season. Maybe that has some effect on what people perceive as a ‘slow’ response.

I mean also maybe I’m totally off base too, just thoughts really

To those I upset with my comment, I apologise. My beloved husband has very recently died, and the fact that Mr Mosley’s family let him go home alone struck a nerve with me. I didn’t think it through before commenting.

Edited

It was decent of you to come back and apologise / explain.

I'm so sorry about your husband, it's very upsetting when incidents bring out grief in unexpected ways. Flowers

Are they sometimes found alive?

If it's a broken leg / ankle and they've been immobilised with a rucksack sensibly packed with water and snacks, sometimes. I don't know what the longest time between the start of a search and someone being found alive is. And it wouldn't be relevant here, because excessive heat is not an issue in the Scottish Highlands.

I'm not saying that it shouldn't be discussed, of course it is going to be. It is just all too often the line gets crossed in these kind of cases from being concerned for the person and treating it as entertainment. I think people forget sometimes when posting that this is actually real life and there are real families with feelings involved.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 08/06/2024 09:54

The BBC are reporting that his accommodation was in the main town which makes this decision to go over the mountains more confusing. It would have been a 30-40 minute walk along the road, the route the bus would have taken, according to Google maps.

TwixOwl · 08/06/2024 09:57

I think they're a lot of unanswered questions...

Was this a route he'd done before?
How familiar was he with the island?

If you look at the map on the Independent with the proposed route and the one they think he took, the shape of the routes are the same. I think he's taken a route in the shape of the one he should have taken but missed out the road stretch.

I think he's just got disoriented and gone the wrong way.

TwixOwl · 08/06/2024 09:57

Also did he have at least a paper map?

Theweepywillow · 08/06/2024 09:58

GingerbicciesPlease · 08/06/2024 09:20

Nothing wrong with me, but I wonder why you are keen to be on their side when it's obvious that the search has been flawed.

If you can't 'take' criticism that's justified, you have a problem.

They could have asked for help from another country.

What are you on about. The search wasn’t flawed, they had literally no idea if the first place they started was the right place or not. Neither did anyone else. They don’t have a crystal ball.

and on their side, there is no sides, it’s not a war.

and for the poster saying why didn’t they bring in international support, good god. Do you know how many people go missing in the uk alone every year, who the hell brings on international support.

TwixOwl · 08/06/2024 09:58

Also I think if he said he wasn't feeling well, why on earth didn't someone walk with him? It wasn't exactly a five min walk back.

cheezncrackers · 08/06/2024 09:59

Its so sad. When I saw the CCTV yesterday afternoon and the rescuers realised that all this time they'd been searching in the wrong place, my heart just sank. No one can survive without water for more than 48 hours in such hot temperatures. I just feel so sad for him, his wife and kids. He was clearly tired, dehydrated, he had no phone, no map, he clearly thought he knew where he was going, but having only been on the island for one day he didn't and was probably feeling the effects of the heat and the dehydration and made the wrong choice Sad

I don't think people forget that real families are involved.

And you also should realise that people on here have gone through similar things.

People going missing, is actually quite common

My own father went missing for a month, and was eventually found, passed away.

I remember everything we went through. I remember going out searching, I remember thinking of where he was at night, was he lying in the cold. I remember it all

i know what this family are going through, and i am thinking about them this week.

Someone going missing, happens to a lot of families actually.

No they didnt have a crystal ball just cctv that showed he wasn't anywhere near where they were searching and that wasn't found/released until Friday.

They didn’t have that at that point. Why are you so keen to attack? It takes our own police ages to find and comb cctv.

why turn this into an opportunity for you to have a go. A man is missing. They are clearly doing everything they can to find him. It isn’t an ideal opportunity for you to attack

Oh I am so sorry. Thanks

Thank you.

To be human - is to endure terrible emotional wounds.

But we have to keep going.

I joined a support group after it happened, and in the support group, all of the people had experienced a missing family member.

It was sad to hear the stories

cheezncrackers · 08/06/2024 10:10

That's awful @Carly944. I'm so sorry.

This case must have brought back so many painful memories for you Flowers

Yeah it's all a bit surreal.

I just feel like ive endured the most terrible emotional wounds but then you know I just still have to get up and go to work 9-5 .

And I started a new job recently. So none of the people there know that my dad went missing and died.

You know we all just chit chat about social life.

I don't want to bring it up as its very sad.

you never know what other people have gone through. One of them at my work, xould have gone through a terrible tragedy that i dont know about. And they're just functioning at work too

SallyWD · 08/06/2024 10:13

I'm sure everyone's doing their best and working very hard to find him so I don't want to be critical. However what I find most tragic is that the CCTV footage wasn't seen until yesterday afternoon, I think. If they'd seen it on Thursday morning for example MM would have had a much better chance of survival. He could have collapsed somewhere or broken a leg but still be alive. Now nearly 3 days have passed and it's much more concerning.
I just wonder why they didn't look for CCTV footage on Thursday.

Janiie · 08/06/2024 10:13

'They didn’t have that at that point. Why are you so keen to attack? It takes our own police ages to find and comb cctv.'

I'm stating facts not attacking. Here there are cameras everywhere so of course that take times to sift through. They've already said there isn't much cctv on the island so surely shops that do have it should have been looked at sooner rather than later. They've wasted 2 days looking in the wrong place.
