Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

I think there's every chance there are elements we don't know, as well. Related to health, mood, background to the incident, other parties etc. They don't tell the media everything because the media don't need to know. It was blatantly apparent there was more to the Nicola Bulley case and then the whole thing got so out of hand that the police ended up revealing her other issues. There may well be things they know all along in this case too. I think it's always safest to assume the police probably know more than we do about an investigation.

Ladybird2019 · 08/06/2024 00:22

His father died at the age of 74, due to heart failure caused by early onset dementia, which sometimes can be caused by a faulty gene which can run in families. This is probably unlikely as I’d imagine he would have had other symptoms before getting lost and confused

pentangles · 08/06/2024 00:23

insane levels of over investment in here Grin

however, i hope we don't hear bad news.

Portfun24 · 08/06/2024 00:23

If you scroll down on this article there's a map showing where he was on the beach, where he went in Pedi, the route he should of took to Symi and the one they believe he has mistakingly took due to further CCTV.

Yes to all those paths, I think. I made a crap map earlier which tallies with what you’re saying:

B = beach
P = Pedi
White line is boat route.
Red line is the easy path, which he did.
Blue lines are possible routes from Pedi to home.

Roughly!

Yes those are possible but if you check with Google Maps, there doesn't seem to be any walkable paths over that terrain. It will only suggest routes south of the lowest blue line (where you see more trees). You can zoom in with satellite view and see that there isn't anything north of the bay aside from craggy rocks.

It seems total madness to attempt a walk on that direction without a cell phone, navigation or plan. Either he was secretly meeting up with someone who had a car or it was health issue that caused severe confusion and disorientation.

Tried to get the path as centred as possible up the middle. I think there are other paths / treks over the hills to the east of that, too.

I don't think he's been seen in Rhodes; the poster misunderstood a Tweet.

I was wondering about the umbrella, would it be open if he tripped and fell, and would it not be seen somewhere, or fallen into the water and floated? It could've been seen by someone in a boat, or swimming, or by the search team.

Also, I'm not sure if he would be browsing in shop windows if he was on the way to kill himself, but I could be wrong.

Kill himself geez what a wild speculation

Aquarius1234 · 08/06/2024 01:28

I read online that he may have been hidden. To avoid being found quicker.

Ilikeadrink14 · 08/06/2024 01:28

If my husband said he felt unwell and was going back to the holiday home (some distance away and involving long walk or the need for transport), there’s NO way on earth I would have let him go alone. What were his family and so-called friends thinking to let him feel poorly without taking care of him. They should be ashamed.
I sincerely hope this lovely man will be found safe, and can get the medical help he clearly needs.

Thogag77 · 08/06/2024 01:33

Hi all, sorry to jump on this post.
Have been following the articles avidly as just really hit a nerve.
Really feel like so much time has been wasted by rescue. When he first went missing was quite scared for him, as been on the island some 20 years ago - and it is all rough rock - wouldn't want to hike around.

I brought up the map when I heard the area he was in - saw the path to town didn't look too bad, later saw the road he was 'supposed' to take. Really couldn't imagine him falling. It didn't seem too far of a stretch for me, to think of him taking a wrong turn towards the mountains further right (or the jutting out bit as I've called it). (From Pedi)
Afterall he might have thought he could stick to the coast. Finding he went by boat to the beach makes me think he wouldn't have been aware it was quite so far and round. Which seems to help my theory. (Only other theory I have is some crazed fan picked him up - which doesn't seem likely)
Surely someone thought of he could be further along on the island? Surely most areas have been casually searched already? And has the dog helped, been there all day? Feel like the witness seeing him in Pedi was ignored, and the cctv shouldve been checked Thursday.

Hoping they go out first light and take a 2 pronged attack - party from Symi town side and one from Pedi side. Hoping he has found shade from the hills, and still with us. Really, really hoping. Would be such a shame for his family and for the good he has done for diet issues. Seems such a decent guy.

This is so right - what we have been saying. Taking in the heat, different country (assuming he doesn't go every year) strange place, feeling unwell, no phone - no way!!

Guavafish1 · 08/06/2024 01:39

poor family... must be agony not knowing!

I hope they find him alive.

I suspect he walked the incorrect path, injuries himself or because dehydrated/heat stroke.

Beemoth · 08/06/2024 01:39

They should be ashamed

Honestly you should be ashamed for throwing that out there, we don’t know anything about it, other than a line in an article, feeling ill could have been a slight headache. What becomes a none issue “oh I’m heading back with a headache” can suddenly become a big thing when someone goes missing when it wasn’t at all at the time. The general public doesn’t know enough to be saying the family and friends should be ashamed, they’ll be going through absolute hell without every Tom dick and Harry thinking they know exactly what happened based on a tabloid article and 20/20 hindsight.

Quite some assumptions there!
Presumably either he didn’t feel unwell when he set off OR he didn’t let on how he felt OR he told his wife and friends to stop fussing and he would be fine.

Why would you try to suggest these poor people should feel guilty? They are the ones whose loved one is missing!

Inyournewdress · 08/06/2024 01:51

@Christ0nABike the map is really helpful, thanks 🙏

barleyrice · 08/06/2024 02:43

It is hard to imagine there being a good outcome now. The poor man. He has been such a genial, well-meaning and helpful presence on TV and with his books for so long, it is hard to imagine him gone.

Lopiun · 08/06/2024 03:34

Delatron · 07/06/2024 17:49

I just think if he had taken himself off somewhere he wouldn’t want all these people searching in this heat. And the poor dog. He seems like a kind, empathetic man.

What poor dog?

Willmafrockfit · 08/06/2024 05:25

perhaps the sniffer dog @Lopiun

BeethovenNinth · 08/06/2024 06:10

All odd. I sometimes think medics take a more gung ho approach to illness. If he felt unwell I can imagine medics joking he should just get himself home.

whereas this is a older man in very hot sun. I wonder if heat stroke set in and he made odd decisions

RacingLine · 08/06/2024 06:20

I don't think the first reports said he was feeling unwell. I think the first reports said he was feeling tired which is slightly different.

JawJaw · 08/06/2024 06:27

@thebillcollector
I agree, it's incredibly unfair to starting finger pointing at small places with far fewer resources than a large westernised, industrialised country

Greece isn’t a large westernised, industrialised country!?

The stereotypical Brit is seen as arrogant, unaware of other countries and stuck in the past. I usually think this stereotype is unfair. But you’ve illustrated it perfectly.

Suec254 · 08/06/2024 01:52

Pretty much all middle aged tourists dress that way, so eyewitness sightings are not reliable. CCTV footage however, is. Anyway here are updates. After making the short walk to the township, it seems he took the rocky inland path to get to the house. If he was unwell as he said, perhaps he had a medical episode. Or else he met with foul play. It's very strange. ttps://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/mystery-of-tv-doctor-michael-mosleys-disappearance-deepens-as-cctv-emerges/news-story/0c3cfa61534881edcb114305eaa1fc98

Urgh that headline can get in the bin - “chilling twist”! FFS.

It just sounds like complete speculation that he may have taken an inland hike - simply just that is a possibility from Pedi.

Sadly whatever had happened to him, unless it’s something wildly improbable, it is difficulty to imagine a positive outcome after three days missing in intense heat. But for his families sake I hope they get answers soon, and keep some hope alive for an outside chance of a positive outcome.

I listen to radio 4 a lot and he feels like such a familiar presence to me it’s very sad to think that it could be lost

Kill himself geez what a wild speculation

Huh? When people go missing it's usually a primary concern. It seems unlikely in this case, as I said.

headstone · 08/06/2024 06:46

Hopefully today will bring some answers, they must have restarted the search now.
