Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

So that rules out him getting lost then.

Because if he got lost, he could just text off his apple watch

Not necessarily. There might not have been a good signal.

Not necessarily. There might not have been a good signal.

I've been on the tiniest greek island, and ive always had mobile phone reception everywhere I went

But yes it's a possibility he may have not.

LindaDawn · 07/06/2024 21:30

I understand his 4 children are on their way to the island.

I read this too and it seems to add another dimension to the story. It implies that instead of taking the main road from Pedi to Symi, he took a barely made mountain path which peters out. It is very easy to get lost on those mountain paths. DH and I have, several times. In that intense heat, after walking a few hours, it would be easy to get disorientated and severely dehydrated which adds to confusion and makes you feel very sleepy.

But people are still taking about him falling into the water and taking dodgy taxis. This report of CCTV showing him leaving Pedi by a rough mountain path seems not to have been picked up by many people.

This is what someone shared on X showing the interior of the island: https://x.com/notlostfilms/status/1799055748544233770?s=61&t=A1YDxbiCsdGCf3akxotJ1g

I just saw a news article where it said " the authorities confirm that they will do a search for five days, and then that's it".

I guess that's the reality for most adults that go missing.

People have mentioned the similarities with the Nicola Bulley case; the speculation, etc.

Some people have also said that he would surely have been found now as it's 'such a small island'

Don't forget that the initial suspicion that Nicola had gone into the river turned out to be the right one. She was there all the time, right under everyone's noses.

The police and authorities in any country are not infallible. I used to work in the police force here in the UK. We would send dozens of officers out to comb an area on hands and knees where we thought a person had gone missing. It often took weeks, because we were looking less than half a mile adrift of where they were 'last spotted' or expected to have been. One of the most recent disappearances was eventually found in a shallow pond that had already been searched by police divers, two weeks afterwards.

I just don’t understand why he didn’t get a taxi if he didn’t feel well, especially after not being able to get the bus.

Passiflora2 · 07/06/2024 21:17

No, she had amnesia.

A socially acceptable diagnosis published at the time. Seems quite unlikely though, doesn’t it- that in the immediate aftermath of someone’s spouse admitting an affair one might drive from Windsor to Cheadle (their sister’s home) and then onto a luxury hotel in Harrogate with complete memory loss, and have no repeat episodes or further consequence. At 36?!

Sometimes a walk makes you feel better. Or maybe he didn’t feel ill ill, just felt like he’d prefer to get home

I wonder if he needed cash and didn't have any? Maybe that's why he couldn't get the bus? I'd likely assume I needed cash for a taxi in Greece too which is maybe why he couldn't get one?

Perhaps he ended up in Pedi with no cash & no phone so thought he'd have to walk and has come to harm/something has happened while doing so...

I’m compulsively checking for news of MM every few minutes. Such a lovely man. I am praying for a good outcome.

Don’t know if this has already been posted but this guy shows a two minute video of the type of terrain of the ‘difficult’ mountain path from Pedi to Ano Symi and how hard the path is to find and follow (I don’t think he is doing the exact same route but uses a lot of the path that you would take if walking from Pedi to Ano Symi, especially the initial part walking up from Pedi):

Wow 😳

Doteycat · 07/06/2024 21:40

Hes so bloody clever though, any chance he would know how to survive something like this? Like he knows about food and the body and metabolism?
Clutching at straws. Fs i really enjoy watching him.

I thought maybe the family will try to pay for extra search

Sounds like everything possible is being done already.

I’m absolutely gutted about all of this as the time is passing the outcome is looking more bleak. I absolutely love MM and all his work and I feel really sad. So I cannot imagine how his family are feeling 💔

Me too😥😥😥

The ongoing search for missing Dr Michael Mosley has taken a shocking turn after he was spotted alive after his coastal walk.
The TV doctor was spotted walking through the town of Pedi on the Aegean island of Symi yesterday at 1.52pm, around 20 minutes after setting off from St Nickolas beach on a hiking trail. Many believed that he may have run into trouble during that hike.

www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/showbiz-tv/dr-michael-mosley-update-search-29316232.amp

Emergency crews have called off the search for Dr Michael Mosley tonight, but will continue again tomorrow morning. The search was reportedly stopped at 8pm Greek time on Friday evening as dusk fell.

It comes after CCTV of the TV doctor, who had been holidaying in the area with his wife Dr Clare Bailey, showed he had made it to the town of Pedi after concerns he may have fallen on a coastal path walking back there. Greek officials are now focussing their search a two-kilometre stretch of land between Pedi and Gialos, where he was staying.

Passiflora2 · 07/06/2024 21:42

It doesn’t seem very sensible to have gone off without his phone in that heat when he didn’t know the terrain though. He may not have had much water either.

Bignanna · 07/06/2024 21:43

MummyJ99 · 07/06/2024 16:26

This is a long shot, but there is no hospital on the island of Symi. Perhaps he left the island to go to a hospital if he was feeling unwell?

With all the publicity, he’d have been found if that were the case!

TurquoiseDress · 07/06/2024 21:43

It does all seem so strange

Very much hoping for good news

Upinthenightagain · 07/06/2024 21:43

Carly944 · 07/06/2024 21:09

I guess maybe the local authorities just don't have the resources.

I wonder will the UK send over any search and rescue teams?

Or they could pay the local authorities to do more

Edited

If he wasn’t famous, my bet is the Greek police would be shrugging their shoulders and doing far less than this tbh.

Theweepywillow · 07/06/2024 21:43

I also think everything is being done that can, not only are the professionals doing it, locals and tourists will also be looking,

Have you tried getting a taxi on a Greek island?

It's not easy.

There aren't any just around.
so you would have to go into a cafe and get them to ring one for you. Even after you do that, the taxi might not show up

But there are plenty of cafes/bars etc judging by the map where he could’ve ordered one, even if he had to wait a while. Surely preferable to trekking up a mountain path in that heat?

westernlights · 07/06/2024 21:56

The photos of him at the beach, it's almost like whoever took it, used it to capture his face, it's not a pose picture and he looks unaware it was taken. Very strange it was taken minutes before he left.

MummyJ99 · 07/06/2024 21:58

I think that because he was very into his health and fitness, he may have overestimated what his body can handle in extreme heat. Although until he is found, the possibilities of what has happened are endless. He could have been abducted by aliens for all we know.

Christ0nABike · 07/06/2024 22:00

Just had a good look at Google and I think this is right. The white line from Symi to St Nicholas beach (B) was the boat trip that morning. The red path is the one he walked east to west to Pedi (P) and reached there 2pm ish.

To get back to Symi town he’d have to have gone on one of the pale blue routes. One is road, and would be the bus route. The other two are through the hills, which would take him nearer to his friends house.

I think!
