Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

I am still optimistic that he has disappeared of his own volition and not a result of something bad happening to him. Symi is such a small island, if he had fallen or become unwell enroute, he would have been found by now. Maybe he got a boat to Rhodes for some time on his own? Maybe he's completely unaware of the search and the media coverage?

palalamama · 07/06/2024 19:32

praying for him and his family. Flowers

But it'll be all over the news so if that was the case someone would've seen him on the ferry/buying a drink etc

How could he not be aware it would attract media coverage?
And he could have fallen in the sea yet to wash ashore.

MaliceInWanderland · 07/06/2024 19:37

I still think - after reading all the up to date news reports - that he has had an accident and has fallen into water

It just seems the most obvious scenario and everything else is a bit of a reach.

I sincerely hope he's somehow still ok and will be found asap

So he and his wife were staying with friends in or near the town of Symi.

I think that I read, or it was implied that they took a boat to a beach.

Michael Mosley then decided to walk back rather than return by boat so left his wife on the beach.

It’s not clear whether he forgot his phone on the beach and his wife brought it back to the friends house or whether he’d left his phone at the house in the morning.

He must have taken the coastal path to Pedi to start with (a 20 minute walk) as that was the only possible route.

He’s seen on CCTV in Pedi half an hour later. His options then would have been:

A short walk to Symi through a built up area.

A boat trip to Symi from the marina in Pedi.

A much longer walk around the coast.

Returning to the beach where his wife was.

If he had travelled from Symi to the beach by boat in the morning then he may have felt more confident continuing on the coastal route not realising that the shorter route was away from the sea.

It looks like the coast from Pedi to Symi is much longer than the beach to Pedi stretch

Why a synopsis?

This makes sense, although more sinister than one would hope for.

The buses look more like minibuses, so could easily get full. He may also have decided to walk. It’s only about 30 mins along a road, with houses etc. But maybe he took the longer switchback road into Symi (perhaps having followed a sign) and that looks like it takes a lot longer and runs close to the sea along one stretch. Plus there are numerous other smaller roads. It is a mystery, though, even the locals are saying it’s too small to get lost or vanish. I really hope he’s found alive.

Why would the other man come forward? Presumably he doesn't know Michael or the family and is in no way connected to the disappearance, he's just a random man out for dinner with friends/family, I wouldn't want to speak to the press or get involved if I were him🤷‍♀️

Are you saying you would not do everything you could to help the investigation, to help them not waste time when in reality it’s likely that every minute matters.

We’re all different, I guess.

confusedlots · 07/06/2024 19:46

I do hope the family get some answers soon. It's awful to be left not knowing if he is dead or alive or maybe physically/mentally unwell and waiting for help to come or else wanting not to be found.

I do think the most likely scenario is that he fell or took a heart attack or stroke and has fallen into the water.

greengreyblue · 07/06/2024 19:46

It’s human responsibility's to help if you can. I agree totally @skulkoffoxes . Some selfish people exist unfortunately. Hope they never need to call on others in time of emergency.

An obvious detail nobody has mentioned yet is that in the close-up CCTV shot (DM article), he's almost certainly wearing an Apple Watch?! This means he would have been able to receive calls or messages even if his cellphone was at home. This could have been the reason he didn't bother taking it as basic functions are all available on the watch. Also raises the question why they could not track his locations based on that?

Queencam · 07/06/2024 19:48

I hope he’s found alive but it’s not looking good is it. I’m assuming he’s had an accident or succumbed to the heat, had a heart attack or something like that. Really feel for his family, it must feel like a nightmare they’re waiting to wake up from 😔

I doubt that’s the case, he wouldn’t do that to his wife. They appear to be very close and happy together.

greengreyblue · 07/06/2024 19:49

There will be missing person stuff all over the island and Rhodes.

Passiflora2 · 07/06/2024 19:49

MaryMack · 07/06/2024 17:13

I’ve seen that blind - if there’s any truth in it, he would be fully aware of the search for him and surely would have been in contact with someone to say he was ok?

What is the gist of it if you can say?

Delawear · 07/06/2024 19:49

I feel so sorry for his family. Hoping he’s found alive and well.

Are you sure about that? My husband has an Apple watch and an iPhone and he can only take calls and messages if the phone is near the watch.
I know this from bitter experience when he went missing for a couple of hours. I had his phone but thought he could get my messages and calls from his watch. It didn't work as the phone was too far.

He lost his memory once before straight after swimming, I wonder if that happened again and he wandered off and got lost. I really really hope he's ok, I have a lot of respect for him and his family will be beside themselves.

But why would he go off by himself if he had a history of amnesia after swimming (and I presume he'd been swimming as they were on a beach) and too late now but why didn't someone go with him.

It's all so horrible for his family. He must've had some kind of crisis, as others have said if he'd collapsed or had an accident he'd have been found by now.

We don't actually know whether the police have located either the man in question or the person he was with.

All we know is that the later image, which his wife has said is not him, has not been released and its timing does not appear to feature in the investigation.

Not all Apple Watch’s have cellular enabled I believe.

Gummybear23 · 07/06/2024 19:53

Was he depressed?

I haven't seen the video, but Apple watches can only receive phone calls and messages away from the phone if they have a cellular module. A "normal" Apple watch needs to be in the range of the phone to get any notification/phone call

TheBloatedMiddle · 07/06/2024 19:57

I'm just placemarking really, but I hope ever so much that he is found safe. I know that is an increasingly forlorn hope.

best wishes to his family.

It depends on the cell plan and wifi. My husband can make & receive calls without having the phone nearby. Whatsapp voice call always works as long as you have internet.

Greece would not qualify for roaming after Brexit but it's reasonable to assume that someone as wealthy and tech-savvy as MM would have ways of setting up a data plan or esim.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 07/06/2024 19:57

It is the not knowing that is the hardest for the family, trying to makes sense of something that doesn’t have any logical answers. I hope he is found safe and sound soon.
