Following on from thread 1, linked below.

Let's hope the CCTV / sighting in town gives a glimmer of home that he made the walk from the beach to town ok.

No there will be criticism over the seach and rescue efforts that is what I meant. They were looking in the wrong area!

There is no such thing as the wrong area. They don’t have the gift of hindsight they need to search all areas till they find him. They’ve no idea where he is.

quizzys · 07/06/2024 18:31

Surely if he left for some other island the boatman/woman would know this.

There seem to be two routes to Symi from Pedi (why do I keep thinking of feet here, sorry...). One overland, and one longer one partly overland and then along the coast.

As others have said, the concentration of the search was from the beach to Pedi, whereas it appears the search should have been from Pedi to Symi, but the beach was the last sighting by his wife/companions so it made sense at the time.

I'm puzzled as to why the CCTV wasn't identified initially, but probably because the search was focused in the wrong place at first, and then when there was no result it moved to Pedi, and there he was found on CCTV.

No one knows what happened, but the longer time goes on, you'd have to think the worst, but at the same time hope for the best too.

Girlofyourdreams · 07/06/2024 18:32

Just joining for updates.

Keep checking the news hoping he is found safe.

MFF2010 · 07/06/2024 18:41

skulkoffoxes · 07/06/2024 17:37

But if it’s not him om the cctv, would that other man not have come forward by now? I’m not in the UK but it’s on the news everywhere.

Why would the other man come forward? Presumably he doesn't know Michael or the family and is in no way connected to the disappearance, he's just a random man out for dinner with friends/family, I wouldn't want to speak to the press or get involved if I were him🤷‍♀️

DaffydownClock · 07/06/2024 18:44

I seriously wonder if he’s been abducted for some unfathomable reason? The fact that there’s absolutely no sign of him is very strange. If he’d had an accident surely he would have been found by now. It’s not a huge area and drones/heliicopter/dogs haven’t found anything at all.

C'mon Michael 💪Please be sheltering in a shady and cool area, sipping water, just out of site and earshot of everyone with a broken leg and just sleeping the time away. C'mon!

As unlikely as I think this is, I'm hoping too. It does not look good at all but I've really admired him for a long time and I really hope he is found soon.

His poor wife and children must be absolutely frantic.

I would have thought if he was walking from pedi to symi he would go the busy road route, he would take the coastal route. Does anyone know what the coast route is like

The busy road route and the coastal routes are different routes.

DiscoBeat · 07/06/2024 18:51

He lost his memory once before straight after swimming, I wonder if that happened again and he wandered off and got lost. I really really hope he's ok, I have a lot of respect for him and his family will be beside themselves.

MaryMack · 07/06/2024 17:38

Maybe he’s in the throes of a mental breakdown and has disappeared to protect himself, not realising the consequences?

It's possible. Didn't Stephen Fry do this once?

Lockupyourbiscuits · 07/06/2024 18:56

It does seem strange he left the beach alone with a rather longer journey than we first anticipated
It wasn’t exactly I’m just nipping back to the villa
Very sad

A thought has crept into my mind which I didn't voice but with the CCTV of him released, I'm wondering if he got into a rogue taxi and is being held somewhere
It does happen.

It happened to me years ago, not in Greece though.

MFF2010 · 07/06/2024 19:00

LaBelleEtLeBadBoy · 07/06/2024 18:02

A few people have mentioned a ‘rogue taxi’ and said they once got one. So what happens in a rogue taxi?

I was driven to a very dangerous area and told to hand over all cash/valuables or I'd be dumped there, I'd have been unlikely to make it out of that particular area alive. I handed everything over except my passport and was dumped at the airport thank god!

Carly944 · 07/06/2024 19:01

MFF2010 · 07/06/2024 18:57

It happened to me years ago, not in Greece though.

And some of those people are very hardened criminals.

They wouldn't think twice about stealing money, and then killing someone to get rid of them.

It's happened before.

That is the worst case scenario. But we need to be realistic of what can happen

MattDamon · 07/06/2024 19:05

Would a taxi robbery/kidnapping really happen on an island with 2,500 residents??

DuckEggy · 07/06/2024 19:06

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 07/06/2024 18:53

Yes he did.

User14March · 07/06/2024 19:09

I suppose the v small island mitigates against ‘rogue taxi’ theory? Unless ‘rogue water taxi’.

Katie Price was assaulted & robbed I believe via rogue taxi event. It’s not a vanishingly rare event unfortunately.

AhBiscuits · 07/06/2024 19:10

This new footage definitely changes things a bit and makes me wonder if someone has attacked him or something.

Cattyisbatty · 07/06/2024 19:11

rellies · 07/06/2024 17:12

I'm sure I remember that he once had an episode of amnesia. He was taken to a hospital where he was recognised . I've just googled it and it was after a swim in the sea. He says it 'wiped out his memory'.

I remember him saying this too.,

And bear in mind, if the other man is not a brit he may not have seen our media coverage and I doubt news channels outside of the UK / Greece are reporting on it.

tobee · 07/06/2024 19:16

Thank you for your replies @anunlikelyseahorse

Delatron · 07/06/2024 19:17

I think since the wife discounted the other man he doesn’t need to come forward. The restaurant is also not releasing the footage of the other man. I guess they can’t as it’s said to not be him.

User14March · 07/06/2024 19:17

@AhBiscuits as someone else said upthread does he have a following in Greece? Is it possible he was targeted as wealthy. Was he meeting someone if it was him at Cafe? Seen with a woman. Seems fetched. A ‘rogue taxi’ event not so much but the island feels too small for this to be really viable. Who knows though.

greengreyblue · 07/06/2024 19:18

It is reported in Greece. That was said on the first day. Police everywhere. It’s a small place.

JessyCarr · 07/06/2024 19:24

@Choux previously posted upthread that there is a gap in the Pedi-Symi bus timetable in the afternoon (found from an April 2024 travel blog).

This timetable (photo posted on another blog in 2023) appears to show that neither the 3pm Symi-Pedi nor the 3.30pm Pedi-Symi run (both have apparently been covered up). This might be expected to make the 2.30 Pedi-Symi bus especially busy, which might be an explanation if indeed MM tried and failed to get onto it.

With no bus then until 4.30pm he might well have been tempted by a taxi.

This makes sense, although more sinister than one would hope for.
