According to the Daily Mail there was a sighting on cctv at 4.30pm which his wife saw and said was not him and the shorts were different.

The DM says the confirmed sighting we are using phos from "is timestamped 1.52pm and was taken from the Blue Corner in Pedi, a fishing village about fifteen minutes walk from St Nicholas and around a quarter of the way through the walk.
Footage seen by MailOnline from ten minutes earlier shows him carrying the same purple umbrella and walking past a cafe at the other end of the Main Street.
The video shows him walking towards the Marina part of Pedi from where he could have taken a boat back to Symi or carried on over the peninsula along rugged terrain with no shelter from the searing heat."

Reports in the Mail saying witnesses who saw the discounted footage said the man was wearing the same colour shirt, baseball cap, rucksack and sunglasses. I mean The Mail quite often get it wrong but it’s bizarre that in such a small town there would be someone else looking and dressing similarly. We have to assume that there was though.

I'm really confused by your description as looking at the map of the island, Ano Symni seems to be on the coast, not inland, and has a port, I think.

If you go on google maps and get directions by bus from Symi town to Pedi you'll see what I mean - the bus travels inland through housing settlements between the two places (both on coast, Symi town is the port, Pedi is a little quieter beach with a few restaurants.)

But that's from CCTV on Simi, not Rhodes. It's just being reported by the press in Rhodes.

People were concerned about the woman who fell in a river not so long ago. SM speculation was considered not helpful at best and distracting/misleading at worst.

Good thing is it shows he made it back to the town. Hopefully he has decided to just off for a break somewhere and he is alive.

I'm wondering if he has been found but the family wants to wait to release the news. Perfectly reasonable. As so many are saying he would have been found by now if still on the island.
