This is horrific and mumsnet should take it down. Should all be ashamed of yourselves

People are obviously concerned about the poor man and it’s natural to guess at what may have happened to him. If you don’t like it then there are plenty of other threads for you to look at. Door’s that way ➡️ 👋

Heatstroke could affect anyone, even if they took precautions. It makes you delirious and disorientated very quickly, as your body starts to shut down, and could lead you to ramble off a path towards the sea.

I think this is the most likely explanation. First day of holiday so not acclimated to the heat and made a poor decision to walk back on a path with no shade at the hottest part of the day. Realized he was overheating and decided to get a dip in the sea to cool off. Fell or had a medical episode and ended up unconscious in the water.

I fear this too. I hope he is found safe and well but as time passes the odds are against him 😕

@Theweepywillow

It has been stated on international news that he said he felt unwell. There is a recent clip of him stating that he had a heart condition.

Get your facts sorted before having a go at people.

dahliadraws · 07/06/2024 15:42

i had an older relative - 50s - who got heatstroke once, he was driving and it was very scary. apparently talking nonsense, delirious. his poor wife as a passenger was in bits

Manhere2024 · 07/06/2024 15:45

From that article:

”The special police analyst, Stavros Balaskas, also spoke about the case. "The police were mobilized from the first moment and the whole island has already been mapped. He also flew a helicopter at night with a thermal camera. Tomorrow Coast Guard divers will go down to see if it has fallen somewhere. The scenarios considered are that he has fallen into the sea, lost consciousness, been murdered and removed from the island, but even that he has made some decisions about his life himself, like Professor Liantinis, but this does not it is so close. It is very difficult for this man to be alive .'”

spiderlight · 07/06/2024 15:46

I can't help but wonder whether there was foul play involved. I really hope not.

The Sun (sorry) has photos of what they say is him in town about half an hour after leaving his wife:

Ah bless him.

:(.

He looks a bit tired there

Passiflora2 · 07/06/2024 15:47

So are we to understand that he got back to the village and then disappeared?

User14March · 07/06/2024 15:47

@Manhere2024 @MattDamon why not a ‘cab’ back to his accommodation when any bus took too long? Why less probable than a later sea fall? Robberies happen etc.

MattDamon · 07/06/2024 15:47

Contrasted with the original photo.

I’m starting to wonder if something very strange or unexpected has happened other than a fall. Not going to speculate but with the new photos, it’s not adding up at all.

Carly944 · 07/06/2024 15:48

I was wondering why when he said he was tired he went to walk back, instead of getting a taxi.

Then Someone explained to me that you can't get a taxi from the area he was in, that the water taxis only come at certain hours.

While it is a pretty island, it doesn't sound like the safest place, in terms of if you get sick or stuck , you literally have no option to get out of there, except to walk a long way

That is very unlikely. Men in their sixties are very unlikely to be targeted by criminals on a small Greek island.

User14March · 07/06/2024 15:49

@MattDamon the cafe CCTV was dismissed as shorts ‘the wrong colour’. Most odd.

LazyGewl · 07/06/2024 15:49

I wonder if he went into the water. I listened to a programme once when he talked about the benefits of cold water swimming (or whatever it's called).

I've been on a small Greek island.

It's very hard to find a taxi when you want one.

There are no taxi ranks.

You have to get a cafe to try to call a taxi for you, and then they take ages to come

User14March · 07/06/2024 15:50

@MyQuaintDog we had an experience in a ‘cab’ that took us out of town. Thankfully ended ok.

BobnLen · 07/06/2024 15:50

So that photo from the town with the umbrella must mean he made it along that path with the steps and rocks in the video upthread

Is that article saying the photo was taken in the town?

Passiflora2 · 07/06/2024 15:52

Somehow he changed his shorts as well?

User14March · 07/06/2024 15:54

@Carly944 yes, we were offered a lift by a ‘cab’ that happened to be near a bus stop. We unwisely accepted. Unlikely to be something like this but robberies to this end at least not uncommon.

So you were robbed?
