Can Anyone Explain This Crazy Taylor Swift Mania?

Or am I very much alone in being vaguely foggy about it all?

She sings a few decent-ish tunes but the phenomena is a Goliath.

And I can't really think why?

Oh well, time to finish knitting this cosy cardi......

One direction, The Beatles, Elvis personally no idea but it is not new

StripedTomatoes · 02/06/2024 12:08

I've no idea! She's playing in Edinburgh next week. They've set up some sort of Swiftie fan hub, there's a cafe doing Taylor Swift themed afternoon teas, bars are doing themed cocktails. I've never seen that for any other pop star.

changeison · 02/06/2024 12:14

she writes amazing songs with powerful lyrics. She's a strong woman. She's a great role model for girls. She's a great Live performer, puts on a phenomenal show. Eras tour is 3.5 hours!

Ialwaystry · 02/06/2024 12:14

My 12 yr old would 💯 not agree. She's obsessed with her.

TheaBrandt · 02/06/2024 12:16

She and her work are amazing.

GagaBinks · 02/06/2024 12:18

I don't get it at all. Her songs are so bland to me.

Roosits · 02/06/2024 12:20

She's so plain and boring,as is her music.

From what I have observed she is accessible/ approachable to her fans, doesn't take herself too seriously, works hard and doesn't go to the extremes in terms of weight loss etc. She looks happy and healthy and seems to have a strong loyal group of friends and family around her.

In other words she seems very normal despite being in the spotlight from a young age and hasnt bought into daft celeb culture - I'm happy for my daughters to have her as a role model.

mathsAIoptions · 02/06/2024 12:26

She's a talented, strong women and men hate her...plus ca change, but internet has made her global and relatable to most women. Men hate it even more!

HousedInMySoul · 02/06/2024 12:27

No, I can't explain it at all. Her songs are really boring, imo 🤷

mitogoshi · 02/06/2024 12:28

She was big when I saw the red tour but this sort of mania. She managed her social media, creative output etc very well during COVID, and came out of the period with multiple new albums, this tour was essentially delayed (not exactly but was an enforced pause) and her media team are very good. Yes I have a coveted ticket, cost me the midnights album advanced sale but I got the tickets i wanted typical priced for a large concert, ive paid more for others.

The fact she tries to come across as a nice person and appeals across different genres helps (i prefer the early albums Grin)

I never understand threads like this. Different people like different things. I don’t like football, or tennis but I understand that others do.

There has always been lots of popular people in lots of different industries. There are viral toys, gadgets and all sorts.

Exactly - I don't like David Beckham (who seems to be everywhere all of a sudden from Ali Express to Walkers) and don't like his voice or style. I cba to start a thread asking why men like him so much they would buy crisps from him.

YellowHairband · 02/06/2024 12:31

Why do people start threads asking if they're the only people who don't see the appeal of Taylor Swift? Of course you're not.

People like different things, there are plenty of really popular things I don't like. But I don't think it's anything deeper than people having different tastes to me.

Some people find her great, some people find her boring - it's a completely subjective opinion and neither is wrong. What is there to understand? It's just Beatlemania in a world where it can be amplified by social media and the internet.

Motheranddaughter · 02/06/2024 12:32

Mu 2 younger DC are mad about her and are going to 3 gigs each

TheaBrandt · 02/06/2024 12:32

Imo ger songs are the opposite of boring - they are fantastic. Love that knuckle dragging men hate her and she just gets more and more successful and writes more and more great songs enraging them! And when she sued the man that sexually assaulted her and won leaving him spluttering and whining.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowItHaveAGin · 02/06/2024 12:34

She's not my cup of tea, but there's no denying she's a marketing genius at the very minimum.

I wouldn't compare The Beatles with Taylor Swift...

What Black American billionaires tried to shut her down? Confused

Sleepydoor · 02/06/2024 12:40

The Beatles produced some great music, but they were not great musicians or singers. Their albums were well produced in the studio. Why not compare them to Taylor Swift?

Pedallleur · 02/06/2024 12:40

The stars align for certain people. Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson for example and the media run with it. Others on this thread have highlighted her positives. She has been in the business a while and built a reputation. Not on crazy antics or showbiz marriages just hard work. She knows her market. Not for everyone but right now she is arguably the biggest star in the music business.

SonicTheHodgeheg · 02/06/2024 12:41

Threads like this are odd because isn’t it common sense that everybody likes different things and that’s not a bad thing ?

Pretty amazing how long the Eras tour will be and how much people are willing to pay to see her. I’m also pleased for the small businesses who will make money out of the excitement.

Just in case it’s not clear I’m not going but happy for wholesome events that make people happy and make money for businesses (especially the small ones)

GoFaster83 · 02/06/2024 12:42

Edinburgh went mental for Harry the other year too. There were multicoloured feathers floating around for weeks after!
