Please leave your possessions at the door, we live a simple life here, no currency, self sustaining, communal meals and electricity from 7pm to 9pm only.

Now to the first matter.

What job you want?

That's ideal @AliceOlive you can be a "Proactivist" you never pass stuff on stairs without carrying it up, you can spot a thinning toilet roll from 50 metres, and there's never a trip hazard on your watch.

I scrolled through quickly but hope there wasn’t a designated Cheesemaker already assigned. If not, I’ll brie your woman fondue that.

These puns didn't get enough attention, excellent work @Malbecmerlot 👏

Happy to knit lots of pairs of socks 🧦

Compash · 02/06/2024 12:03

I'm no good at anything, can you keep me as a pet?

Or - I know - can I be your hermit? I can dwell alone but for a cat in a little shack up in the wild woods and dispense words of mystic wisdom/made up bullshit to passing pilgrims on request...

TheHavanaCats · 02/06/2024 12:55

I assumed it was women-only, not keen if there are any men there.

I could also teach a morning yoga class

heldinadream · 02/06/2024 13:38

Hello fellow yoga teacher @TheHavanaCats
Well I was. Retired now but can still yoga it up with the best of 'em. 😁

Chemenger · 31/05/2024 12:44

I can make gin out of your beer.

That sounds very interesting...

I can't join as my talents are utterly.useless in an apocalypse.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 02/06/2024 13:54

I think we should at least TRY guinea pig yarn undies before deciding anything. Sensible high leg design please.

Thats the spirit! And right you are on the design. Is anyone up for being the yarn dyer? I've never dabbled in dyeing. It would be a bit dull if we were linited to guinea pig-coloured undies. I'm sure someone could create some intetesting dyes from berries and flowers etc!

Magpiecomplex · 02/06/2024 15:38

I can probably manage dyes, if it colours soap it's likely to colour other things. Unless we have a hitherto undeclared dyer amongst us?

Geneticsbunny · 02/06/2024 16:05

I learnt a bit about dying wool when I was a teenager. It might still be in my brain somewhere.
@heldinadream good find. I particularly like that there are loads of bathrooms. Do we maybe need a bit more land though for the guinea pigs?

Oh I have dreamed/dreamt of living in a commune for over 35 years. Even though I am introverted I would love commune life.

Today I have genuinely made butter from some double cream and also knitted a sock, so I would like to apply for dairy maid and shepherd. I will make butter and cheese, and knit all the wooly items for the whole commune.

I request that the gardener provides a continuous supply of carrots, as I am addicted to raw carrots.

Where can I sign up?

You say you’ve knitted a sock… can you do two socks or will the one-sock wearing woman be out secret signal so we can spot each other in the wild?

I can do the dyeing, indigo and other natural dyes

I'm at my very boring computer based job today waving around my hands when I talk and they are still stained blue from indigo dyeing at the weekend

I think in the interests of attracting new recruits I should emphasise that sleeping quarters are private. Meals are communal with designated "no chat, no offence taken" tables.

We've acquired a decent range of skill sets so far, and nobody appears to be a total arsehole, we're cooking on gas (/sticks from the wood)

Designated “No chat, no offence taken” tables are an excellent idea. Great range of skills so far, too. This commune really does just keep getting better and better.

Well, by now I have completed the pair of socks, but I like the option to wear just the one for the purposes of identifying others and possible recruitment of new members.

Welcome to the commune
AliceOlive · 04/06/2024 21:52

Those are beautiful. Have you been watching old episodes of Northern exposure?

Pebble21uk · 05/06/2024 20:06

These are magnificent socks! How long will it take you to make some for the entire commune? Half the time if we just have one each!

ScottBakula · 12/06/2024 07:34

Can I join please , I can make drip and moulded candles out of paraffin or bees wax
I'd also love to learn how to keep bees.

sashh · 12/06/2024 10:05

Walks in Hi @ScottBakula are you deserting the cafe?

OP I haafe and petting zoo in the wide awake club, I can send my cocktail waiter, Fernando over with a range of cocktails, assuming this isn't a dry commune.

ScottBakula · 12/06/2024 13:16

@sashh , absolutely not , your cafe has kept me sane ( well sane ish ) .
There is mead brewing over there so I am sure Fernando can drop off some tasty drinks

Geneticsbunny · 13/06/2024 13:25

Has anyone found a suitable site yet?
Apologies, it won't let me delete any ats that I have added. So I will have to comment on the fact that I love
@ScottBakula s name

StandingMyGround888 · 13/06/2024 19:57

The site proposed was far too expensive which was the material reason for its non-selection but as the resident shaman I can also inform you that it was haunted by misogynists so wouldn't have been suitable anyway. Also, it was too modernly and recently decorated with fibres and paints etc that make it more difficult to activate your third eye and cleanse your pineal gland.

Thus no.

We have a budget so far of £15,693.50 and require a 25 bedroom property.

Commune leader can you please develop a spiritual ideology that suits a rich and generous demographic please. It needs to include their cleansing of their aura or karma by handing over money. Something like that. Are you sure you're charismatic enough to pull this off?

Cheers.

Elaan · 13/06/2024 22:42

Not sure I want to participate in the aura cleansing, but I'll give it a go. I can contribute by putting up ikea furniture and other practical skills.

ScottBakula · 13/06/2024 23:18

@Geneticsbunny , aww thank you.

I wonder if there is a small island somewhere that we could adopt, it will be easier to keep the riff raff out and of course it will have its own fresh water spring or well and a abundance of wild fruit trees .

ScottBakula · 13/06/2024 23:26
