Please leave your possessions at the door, we live a simple life here, no currency, self sustaining, communal meals and electricity from 7pm to 9pm only.

Now to the first matter.

What job you want?

buffyslayer · 31/05/2024 14:58

Yep I can look after donkeys

haddockfortea · 31/05/2024 15:00

I'm not too bad with medicinal herbs, I like looking after chickens, and can turn my hand to washing-up. I am also a whizz at drawing up rotas.

Not keen on ironing, though.

rainydaysaway · 31/05/2024 15:03

GauntJudy · 31/05/2024 14:24

@rainydaysaway and @weegiemum could one of you be a good wise woman and the other an evil wise woman?

I need my big stick back please @Dexterrolledoffthesofa

@weegiemum why don’t we split the chores - I’ll be wise woman Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and you can do it Thursday, Friday and Saturday and we’ll shut the hut for the day on Wednesday?

I’ll share the hut as long as you don’t snore.

rainydaysaway · 31/05/2024 15:05

Do we really have to bring children? I’m trying to get away from my children….

olderbutwiser · 31/05/2024 15:06

I was worried that most of my favourite jobs had gone (wise old crone, gardener) but I am happy to be Retired. Can also do a spot of first aid if required.

Are we letting men in?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 31/05/2024 15:16

I'll deal with the useful animals - cats for rodent control, dogs for security, hunting and warmth at night, a flock of attack geese for terrifying everything within a ten mile radius, handrearing crows to alert us to potential danger, ferrets or stoats for rabbiting, that sort of thing.

It'll save me having to deal with 365 identical conversations about who didn't put the lid back on the dried corn (although with my precious creatures, I'll probably still have to endure 365 about what they've nicked/eaten/chased/fluffed/shat upon anyhow - although my hearing's going, so it wouldn't be for that long, I guess).

Boredmum24 · 31/05/2024 15:17

Ex healthcare worker. I can run sick bay with medicinal herbs. Can also knit bandages if required

GreenAppleFarm · 31/05/2024 15:55

Like @Boredmum24 I have a healthcare background. I am also a keen archer, so can either provide defence, attack or food. (though the actual butchery is not something I have done - I am willing to learn) I would provide hides, tallow and fats. I also keep chickens and would bring them along.

I also like puddings, just saying.

We only get 6 books and 3 magazines every full moon, I've already memorised the February edition of Take a Break.

Yes to workshops with somewhat medieval themes to them.

But when I join I will donate my extensive library of "modern day crime meets archaeology" books. Should keep people going for a while!

PuppyMonkey · 31/05/2024 16:01

I’ll make all the lists of stuff that needs doing and tick everything off when it’s been done. Grin

Malbecmerlot · 31/05/2024 16:02

I scrolled through quickly but hope there wasn’t a designated Cheesemaker already assigned. If not, I’ll brie your woman fondue that.

MrsJackThornton · 31/05/2024 16:06

Ooh I have been training for this my whole life!

I can spin, weave, knit, crochet, do natural dyeing, make baskets, do leatherwork, we keep chickens and bees and grow our own veg, I can make jam, can food, and have some herbalist knowledge. I can also whittle and carve and can make spoons and bowls and furniture, and make a pole lathe to make the making of the furniture easier. I know a little about tanning and used to work in a brewery. I'm also trained to teach archery and fencing, can help with lambing and shearing...

I was born for this shit! (Or rather have ADHD and a plethora of hobbies.. )

In my real day job I am a data analyst and use none of these skills...

Blessed are the cheesemakers

Nope no children!

Maybe men. I dunno. Maybe some man huts dotted around the perimeter? If I heard the words "what's for dinner?" they'd be cast out.

GauntJudy · 31/05/2024 17:44

Good news everyone! There is no ironing. Turns out guinea pig yarn and knitted clothes don't suffer creases. Let us rejoice, mead-fuelled flute/recorder rave tonight at dusk, bring cheese.

I too can write, maybe a blog type thing to get brands and freebies or money?

I can do laundry but it couldn't be alot if the electricity is only on for 2 hours a day. Maybe if we had an engineer he could do something? I also don't mind washing up or cleaning.

I'm good at crochet so we'd have blankets for warmth and to maybe sell?

But I'd need my own room please?

Damn you stole my job 😆

MrsMoastyToasty · 31/05/2024 18:25

I'm good with money (have worked in finance). Can I be treasurer?

I suggest that men have their own commune and we'll have "socials" on Quarter Days.

user1471538283 · 31/05/2024 18:30

I do apologise ladies I referred to an engineer as "he". In my defence my bf is an engineer. But there are of course lots of female engineers and we are a female, no children commune.

I'm concerned about the laundry situation. Although thankfully not about the cheese situation which is much more important.

Magpiecomplex · 31/05/2024 18:40

@GauntJudy can you confirm that guinea pig yarn has self-cleaning properties and therefore laundry will be minimal?

GauntJudy · 31/05/2024 18:46

Let us rejoice, guinea pig down IS impenetrable to dirt and filth. No laundry required. Drunken donkey rides for everyone!!

GauntJudy · 31/05/2024 18:48

@MrsMoastyToasty do your financial skills translate to counting whittled spoons? If so, come and pick the best spot for your desk in our spoon vault.

OP posts:
Geneticsbunny · 31/05/2024 18:50

@user1471538283 i don't think I want any freebies or money. That sort of ruins the idea of it for me. Laundry and cleaning are both great. I can teach you some bee keeping or sewing if you like? I also agree with the individual rooms please if possible.

Elaan · 31/05/2024 18:58

Seems like we're short of "tools" I'll be a handywomen if you can send on a course I'm practical so should pick it up well.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 31/05/2024 19:08

How private are the sleeping arrangements? And what is the toilet situation? I don't mind sharing but I don't want to poop into a hole in the ground.

Any musical instrument players here? I'd love to learn. I feel I'm good with rhythm so could find makeshift drums
