I'll go first ...

B&M is over rated

Most of the home decor is tacky
I can get cleaning products at in the supermarket without a separate trip.
It's not super cheap like people say when you really compare the prices

Piercing a child's ears is child abuse

Totally disagree, so common in some cultures just after birth and not a big deal IMO. Saying it's child abuse exaggerates it, it's not a matter for social services.

Dog ownership is cruel.

Dog ownership is cruel.

So what's happening with the dogs, then?

Ginmonkeyagain · 21/05/2024 15:24

A lot of people are not introverts, they just use the term to cover for being lazy and anti social.

ElsaLion · 21/05/2024 15:27

Population is in severe decline and couples should be encouraged to have larger families.
Family breakdown and separation is a root cause of many issues in modern society
Pornography should be universally banned.
Teaching of RSE, beyond basic human biology (but in a way that is appropriate to the age group concerned) should be banned in primary schools.
Dog ownership is far too widespread, and should require an exam/license to undertake.

Yes, it's an excuse. How do you think others feel about that?

delusjenelle · 21/05/2024 15:36

@ClairemacL come work in mental health for a day and see all the older men (60+) who grew up with authoritative parenting and spanking and then get back to me on that.
Wetting yourself out of fear when you hear your dads car pull up because you ate an orange is abuse. No one can tell me otherwise.
Here's another unpopular opinion, boomers wring their hands at all the mental health talk today but today's children will be happier in the long term, and safer, due to their ability to actually talk about their feelings.

froidIci · 21/05/2024 15:38

What should long distance immigrants do? Should I stop flying to see my ageing parents in India? Or are you suggesting people don't migrate at all?

Bring back national service, so if you choose to come to our country (up to age 26) or were born here, you do our national service and pledge your allegiance this country. This is everyone, without exception.

Edited

Apply it retrospectively, but only to those who want it to be compulsory for under 26s. If you think it's good enough for a child or young person, it's good enough for you too.

I love B&M, great for monthly nesting

What is MONTHLY nesting?!

Baby grows are not easy baby grows. They are awkward and inconvenient.

Loose tops and separate bottoms are much easier. Pjyamas basically.

I came here to say this. Those poppers are fiddly and annoying. My second was only in them for about a fortnight. Dungarees all the way for me. So much easier.

Also white or any kind of off white as a choice for walls/towels/crockery/bedding is not a choice, it is an absence of a choice and looks weird and a bit creepy and sad.

OriginalUsername2 · 21/05/2024 15:47

We over use the words phobic and phobia. No one has “an uncontrollable, irrational, and lasting fear” of fat people, for example.

ManilowBarry · 21/05/2024 15:47

Well behaved dogs should be allowed everywhere.

Adults that call themselves gamers are immature and pathetic unless they work for a company that is involved with producing games for x box etc.

Dummies/pacifiers used by children that can walk are horrific unless the child has a medical condition that requires one.

Summer and very hot days are wonderful.

Clothing manufacturers/retailers, should double the price for outsize clothing to encourage weight-loss unless they can produce a medical certificate saying their obesity is due to medication or a disease etc.

mossylog · 21/05/2024 15:48

ClairemacL · 21/05/2024 14:53

There’s absolutely no problem with authoritative parenting and gasp spanking. Many kids would be vastly better off if their parents did this.

People are always mixing up the words "authoritarian" and "authoritative", when they mean something completely different, so my unpopular opinion is that parenting styles should have clearer labels.

TeamPolin · 21/05/2024 15:48

Croissants are massively over-rated
All posh, artisanal crisps are shit.
Leopard print looks naff on everything.
Adele's songs are really boring.

muggart · 21/05/2024 15:20

Dog ownership is cruel.

Aye well let's just release them all into the wild then and see how they get on.

Love to see a majestic herd of greyhounds roaming the hills.

ManilowBarry · 21/05/2024 15:51

Hurty words on the internet from a stranger is not bullying.

Yes! I’ll do bloody national service if you will RawCarrots, but otherwise no, ta.

GingerPirate · 21/05/2024 15:55

Being child free is the best thing one can do for themselves.

sheroku · 21/05/2024 16:04

Came on here to say dog ownership (with certain exceptions) is cruel and someone has already beaten me to it! It's not just cruel though, it's also weird. They don't "love you unconditionally" they have been conditioned into behaving a certain way for food and attention.

There are too many people on the planet. Farming is the biggest driver of environmental destruction and global warming. Either we figure out how to feed the entire world with insanely efficient plant-based farming or we have fewer people.

muggart · 21/05/2024 16:05

So what's happening with the dogs, then?
@PossumintheHouse

I do recognise there are practical difficulties in phasing out dog ownership and rectifying the situation, but I still think it's cruel to separate dogs from other dogs which is what usually happens to with pet ownership. There are plenty of other animal species that aren't kept as pets.

marshmallowfinder · 21/05/2024 16:06

Spelling correctly is important.

marshmallowfinder · 21/05/2024 16:07

I couldn't give a shit if it's cream or jam first.

God, yes. It's so unbelievably tedious to witter on about this shit.

sheroku · 21/05/2024 16:08

it's cruel to separate dogs from other dogs which is what usually happens to with pet ownership

Exactly. It's also cruel to breed them, neuter them and to separate puppies from their mothers. No idea why dog lovers don't see that. We would never do that to a human.

My unpopular opinion is that unpopular opinion threads are shite.
