I'll go first ...

B&M is over rated

Most of the home decor is tacky
I can get cleaning products at in the supermarket without a separate trip.
It's not super cheap like people say when you really compare the prices

Oh and age gaps of over 10 years are grim and embarrassing for the existing children. You do not need to give your 18 year old a newborn sibling just because you feel the need to provide your new boyfriend with a child.

Yes my DH has a 1/2 sister 30 years younger than him. FIL is confused why DH isn't making more of a brotherly relationship with her.

Princess Diana was a self-obsessed bimbo that slept around but moaned for years when her hubby did it and had no real talent other than piano playing. There, I've said it!

Is that you Rossi?

I’m with you here. It’s beyond me how people can sleep in polyester pyjamas - especially the slippery satin ones. Also being of ‘ a certain age’ i.e. menopausal- I’ve got rid of anything that isn’t breathable natural fibres.

I find these "faux luxury" materials to be anything but. "Silk feel" my arse. I suppose "slimy and sweaty" wouldn't be good marketing.

Same with "faux fur" (scratchy dust collector) and diamanté (nasty rough texture, usually looks tacky).

As is so often the case on these unpopular opinion threads, some of the ideas people post are unpopular because they're completely fucking hatstand.

🤣

@Realduchymarmalade

I get what you are saying but considering the government we have, don’t you find giving them absolute control over something this major quite stomach–churning?

No. I think strict laws on people having babies SHOULD be put into place.

They could raise the household income seen as acceptable for potential parents.

Not a bad idea.

They could decide that you are too young/old.

Again, wouldn't be such a bad idea. A limit on the age - eg, you can only have them between 21 and 38 would be the ideal IMO. A 17 year window is plenty.

The goal posts could be forever changing including how many babies they currently feel they need to maintain the current desirable population demographics

Again, not such a bad idea to limit how many babies people can have. I don't see why the goalposts would change though. Just set the rules and that's it. Maximum 2, both people should be between 21 and 38, both parties have to consent to having a baby, you need to have at least one of you working full time (and have been in the job for a minimum of 3 years,) and you must have your own home. (Owned/mortgaged, or rented, with a secure social housing tenancy, or a private let that you have been in for at least 2 years.)

The world is massively overpopulated, and too many people who should not be parents keep having children and can't/don't want to look after them, and much stricter rules would help.

Some can say it's dystopian but that's a matter of opinion. It may be an 'unpopular opinion' but that's what this thread is about!!! People are entitled to their own opinions even if others don't like them. I know some people won't like these opinions about having children, but I don't like some other opinions about things on here! I'm not whining and complaining though. It's a free country. People are entitled to think what they like.

Edited

I had mine at 40 so what would you have done? Had me sterilised at 38? Made me abort my son?
Would you enforce this globally or just here? Our birth rate is declining and Europeans are a global minority . Shouldn't we go full wacko and ensure there are equal amounts of everyone then?

People who say this sort of thing usually have zero knowledge of countries that have tried to control reproduction and the dystopian society and horrors its created that real people had to suffer

GiganticArkReadywithHottub · 24/05/2024 08:16

Just to move away from the eugenics talk...
Valerie by The Zutons is a far better song than the Amy Winehouse version. And I love Amy.

GiganticArkReadywithHottub · 24/05/2024 08:24

@Realduchymarmalade what about all the people born in less than ideal circumstances who are making a positive change in the world?
I was born to a 25 year old single mum who had come back from travelling, no money, no housing. My friend was brought up in the care system and my other friend who was born to a married man and an African mum who had just got to the UK. None of us would exist if your ridiculous and anti human rights laws existed. Yet we are here, being social workers, a job that few people want. A job that few people do unless they have lived experience of hardship during their lives.
Also if you make it that only rich married parents get to procreate, you will definitely be restricting global majority and disabled people from having children. And that is why this 'idea' is awful, sounds like something the nazis would create.

NonPlayerCharacter · 24/05/2024 08:29

The problem with unpopular opinions threads is that they should be full of "pineapple is great on pizza" and "The Godfather part III is the best one" but they always reach the shitty lows of "yay, eugenics and assaulting children!" And always by people who are weirdly proud and self-congratulatory about it.

I'm never surprised at people going totalitarian, but you'd think at least one of them would give some idea to the practicalities. Some of the recent contributions look like what AI would come up with if you said make it Nazi but without the organisational skills.

I agree with you, if you read further unthread to my single comment on this subject you will see that I was actually arguing against the idea of controlling who can have children and when. I find the idea abhorrent.

Who is whining and complaining? You sound quite barking.
It sounds as if you haven’t been able to have children yet and you are comforting yourself by over investing in some kind of savage fantasy where perfectly normal people are prohibited from having children.
Your overuse of exclamation marks and random assertions of things like “it’s a free country“ makes you sound very under–developed. Would there be a minimum standard of education and IQ in your dystopian fantasy, because if so then potentially it wouldn’t work out so well for you.

Also good on pizza:

  • mango
  • banana
  • apple

A pizza is just hot bread and cheese, it goes with most food.

People are always happy to cede control to the government when they think the government will enforce their own beliefs on others.

But it's a lot easier to give away power than it is to get it back.

The government is far more likely to want us to have more children not less so allowing the government to decide how and when we can procreate is pretty risky unless you are happy to be turned into some sort of farmyard animal making babies on demand.

Charles Dickens' books are tedious and not worth the effort of reading them.
