I'll go first ...

B&M is over rated

Most of the home decor is tacky
I can get cleaning products at in the supermarket without a separate trip.
It's not super cheap like people say when you really compare the prices

Saying you have an allergy to a certain food unless you are anaphylactic makes it harder for people with a life threatening condition

Not all allergies are anaphylactic. No one should have to suffer physical discomfort when they eat. (And yes, I have a DC with a potentially anaphylactic allergy who carries epipens.)

Erm, no, we don't have more old people than young!

Age 00-25: 20,437,104
Age 60-90: 16,814,195

That's 21.5% more under-25s than over-60s.

And most people wouldn't count 60 as 'old'.
Age 65-90: 12,736,451

60.4% more under-25s than over-65s.

ONS data, UK, 2022.

Ah come on, cut a girl some slack, it was 6am! You know what I mean, we all know what I mean - falling birth rates mean that economically the population ultimately won't sustain growth or care for its elderly, with Japan being the furthest along this journey.

Obviously, immigration from the developing to the developed world helps with this - but then that's an unpopular opinion these days too. Sigh.

Soft parenting is breeding a generation of weak, fragile, and entitled individuals.

Yes.

I can't stand the primary school run and I won't miss it or get sentimental when it's over.

@2boyzNosleep

'The hope IVF brings has a worrying negative impact on mental health- the devastation of it not working/miscarriages, the debt people get into and the breakdown of relationships. The anxiety of finally having the child you want, then not actually enjoying parenthood because its draining, keeping those feelings to yourself because you think you should love every single moment- good or bad for the child you always wanted.'

How is this exclusive to IVF? It isn't just parents of IVF children who feel this way, or who get into debt, finding parenthood draining?

You mention the mental health aspect of IVF on patients. Well, being that I have been on both sides of this, I can assure you that the mental health impacts are far, far worse believing you won't have children of your own, like what you have, than the rollercoaster of emotions that fertility treatment brings.

I had 6 cycles of IVF, all paid privately (because the NHS don't hand out IVF treatment like smarties and love hoop jumping!) from the age of 23 to 28 - not because of a health condition but because of a botched operation on my husband by the NHS when he was 2! So, no, my child won't be more likely to require IVF than anyone else would. I didn't get into debt for this, we simply planned our finances like any couple would when planning for pregnancy!

Your main point in your first post was that IVF was the WORST scientific/medical breakthrough ever on a moral and ethical way! Incidentally, I'd go with bombs for worst scientific breakthrough morally & ethically! But go on to contradict yourself by saying that it's because of old people this rendering us overpopulated? You think overpopulation is down to the tiny percentage of couples who require IVF and not down to old people living longer (like you said) or people having more than one child (like yourself!)?!

Lastly, IVF provides no benefit to society? Tell that to the children that have grown up and gone on to become doctors and nurses and all other kinds of people providing services to the public! My son wants to become a Forensic Investigator, so hopefully will provide a benefit to society by helping to nail criminals!

Anyway, it's good to debate things and I really do mean that!

Pollipops1 · 22/05/2024 07:45

We have more over 65s than under 15 yr olds @Garlicked

And most people wouldn't count 60 as 'old'. Wouldn’t they? It’s old though, it’s not young.

ManilowBarry · 22/05/2024 07:48

@suki1964

You wrote 'However the breeds you have named are crossbreed, specifically crossed to enhance/change characteristics

Because Pugs are so badly bred in the past ( and there are calls on banning the breeding of them ) for example, pugs are now crossed to another breed so their muzzles become longer to help with the breathing issues they have '

........

You are completely ignorant and spouting copy and paste rubbish. We have many dogs and have actually adopted a Pug X Jack Russell (idiots call them Jugs) and whilst he is loved and cared for, he is an abomination.

People have played God in producing these breed mixes and the resulting dogs can suffer.

They breed them to make the face less flat but the tongue of our one is meant to fit the long snout of a Jack Russell. His face isn't squashed flat like a Pug but the tongue is still too long for his face shape and he has to make a conscious effort to hold it in. When he is relaxed and or asleep the tongue hangs out as he cannot hold it in and the end becomes dry and crispy. It's cruel and people playing God in producing different dog mixes in this manner are cruel.

But you missed the actual point of my post regarding these breed mixes as it was referring to the high prices that fools will pay for a dog that has a mixture of breeds that is essentially a mongrel.

Mine makes me vomit... is that ok? (I do say intolerance though, and its something easily avoided)

You're right. When it was over the relief was wonderful, it was actually a factor in me not going for a third Grin.

Garlicked · 22/05/2024 07:55

True, but only by a few hundred. Because I love to procrastinate by making charts, I just did this. The UK population bulge is age 30-60.

There's still time, though (just)! You all need to encourage your kids to have lots of kids - or we could import young adults from the small boats.

flutterby1 · 22/05/2024 07:56

@NecessaryNC24 yeah thank god I only have two school years between mine, I feel sorry for the mum's with a big age gap between their youngest and eldest having to do the school run for years and years. It will be 9 years for me between eldest and youngest, that's more than enough. It will free me up to work full time. I'll be shouting next July ; I'VE DONE MY TIME 😂

Pollipops1 · 22/05/2024 08:01

@Garlicked nice chart! Personally I think the birth rate issue has gone too far to rectify (already seeing schools closing). But it’s one reason why governments will never “fix” immigration, we need it! Super unpopular opinion 😆

30 yo men who buy ridiculous gaming chairs and spend all evening "on line gaming" are pathetic sad f*cks - silly spoilt little boys - not what adult women are looking for....and they have no idea how they come across!

I watch about 3,000 hours of true crime documentaries a week (give or take)
I cannot tell you how many times adult male gamers are the murderer.
Just keep an eye on them, that's all I'm saying.🧐

Pollipops1 · 22/05/2024 08:03

Looking at the chart there is roughly 50% under 40 & 50% over 40, not a good economic model!

Pollipops1 · 22/05/2024 08:05

How do you manage this? Quantum physics?

Realduchymarmalade · 22/05/2024 08:10

Goodness I really wasn't expecting anyone to take that seriously. Hence the "give or take"
It was a joke.

Heucherarowan · 22/05/2024 08:18

Proportional splits in finances i.e salary vs bills or 50/50 splits once you have children, are unequal. Unless the other partner does 50% of the domestic/childcare or whatever the proportional balance would be, that is.

Realduchymarmalade · 22/05/2024 08:19

The rattan style garden furniture that everyone has these days is horrible, especially the cheap ones

SqueakyDinosaur · 22/05/2024 08:19

A sizeable minority of people who do parkrun are utter twats and could bore for Britain about it. Nobody cares if you've found one beginning with X to complete your alphabet challenge. And buying crap costumes off Amazon to wear once so you can complete your zodiac challenge marks you out as an arsehole.

Realduchymarmalade · 22/05/2024 08:22

Taking your children to Disney is moronic, unimaginative and dull. There are a million better family holidays to take

That's not an unpopular opinion.

It's disgusting that still happens.

Apparently up to 80 percent of men in America are

and 64-70 percent of infant boys born now

so the opinion is nowhere near popular enough and I think we should start being very vocal globally about the appalling act of genital mutilation done to those little boys 😢

not global.

I’m probably going to get banned now for saying this but here goes….

I think the concept of a ‘god’ is as legitimate as garden fairies. I can’t believe how many adults worldwide actually believe. It would be ok but the problems different faiths cause are catastrophic.

Yep. An elaborate story.
