I'll go first ...

B&M is over rated

Most of the home decor is tacky
I can get cleaning products at in the supermarket without a separate trip.
It's not super cheap like people say when you really compare the prices

Unless you are at least 5’10” and 8 stone skinny jeans do not, and have never, suited you.

*Don't know if this is unpopular or not.

Rap is trash. There is the odd good record that would qualify as being a song ("Gangster's Paradise", "Lose Yourself", Love the way you lie", "See You Again") but 99% of the releases are dreadful and not music.

It's rhymes over a backing track, and the track is often stolen..."ready or not" (another rare good one) by the Fugees who stole Boadicea by Enya. And the rhyming aspect is stolen from nursery rhymes: "Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle", this is children's stuff that first appeared in 1600s England.

They are all largely shocking, but particular mention for Drake who is unlistenable.

Vanilla Ice stealing Under Pressure from Queen and Bowie, it's a thieving genre of non music.

Taylor swift is an essential man eater, that in my opinion has relationships just so she can write new albums, she’s got a good voice I’ll give her that but the way she goes about her music is crazy.

I saved this comment about Swift as it sums her up perfectly for me -

'How on earth did this 'pied piper' garner so much acclaim for her social climbing, philandering, and her narcissism. She is not a role model for young girls, she is a manipulative orchestrator of a narratives that suits her own agenda, She also loves to surround herself by weakened
'celebrities' like she's some sort of oracle that will show them the light. How many boyfriends have you screwed and used for musical fodder now?
I've lost count. But you are not inspirational to my daughter, nor me. Thank goodness my smart nine year old sees through the continual BS and has zero interest.'

Mum’s should be at home with their children until they are at least school age.

Mums, not dads. Of course. Always the woman's responsibility and guilt if she needs to work 🙄

Oh believe me, I know. That's why I stopped wearing jeans completely when they sold nothing else for 12 years.

The absolute hysteria about her is baffling to me. I like that comment.

Radio4andChocolate · 21/05/2024 23:03

Dogs and cats were made to be able to roam. People shouldn't keep them as indoor-only pets or in homes that are too small.

The two child cap on benefits is both cruel and ineffective. It is deliberately designed to discourage a feckless minority by punishing the majority.

The narcissism is disgusting.

Takes a camera crew for her "philanthropic" deeds, in contrast to George Michael or anyone who does things for people without publicity or acclaim.

Bring back national service, so if you choose to come to our country (up to age 26) or were born here, you do our national service and pledge your allegiance this country. This is everyone, without exception.

Edited

Aye. You come over to NI and tell everyone they need to do national service and swear allegiance to the UK. See how that goes for you...

Oh believe me, I know. That's why I stopped wearing jeans completely when they sold nothing else for 12 years.

BUT, they mean I can wear massive, soft, floaty, drapey tops/jumpers and boots in winter and no wet fabric flapping around my ankles. So so so practical.

mjf981 · 21/05/2024 23:10

The word ‘trigger’ is overused and usually from someone attention seeking and precious.

mjf981 · 21/05/2024 23:13

Oh and also people who ‘suffer’ from anxiety.

Being child-free by choice is not selfish. It is wanting then having children that is selfish.

If we want any kind of society to still be here in 100 years time, loads of people need to have kids. So it’s not really selfish. Nor is some people choosing not to have kids selfish. Both are valid choices, with “selfish” being a simplistic take on both.

I'm actually scared to post this one because I'll sound heartless.

IVF....... is morally and ethically the worst scientific/medical breakthrough. For society as a whole- there are way too many negatives ( just want to say I'm not judging anyone for choosing/needing IVF)

There are too many people in the world.

There are too many children that need to be adopted or fostered into a loving home.

Aside from illness/injury- there is usually a biological/genetic reason for infertility.

The hope IVF brings has a worrying negative impact on mental health- the devastation of it not working/miscarriages, the debt people get into and the breakdown of relationships. The anxiety of finally having the child you want, then not actually enjoying parenthood because its draining, keeping those feelings to yourself because you think you should love every single moment- good or bad for the child you always wanted.

I think the success rate is something like 30% to give birth, if you're under 30. The success rate drastically falls thr older you get.

It should not be funded by the NHS.

The health impact on the child, working in a neonatal unit, about 70% of babies were conceived via IVF. I have not researched this myself but a medical colleague told me that children born via IVF are more likely to need IVF to have their own children.

So why didn't you adopt instead of having '2 boyz' and putting more people in the world? Hmm

NonPlayerCharacter · 21/05/2024 23:18

Whether you choose to have kids or not is a selfish decision. And it should be, because if ever there was something you should do or not do depending on whether you wanted it or not, that's got to be it.

ManilowBarry · 21/05/2024 23:18

Anyone who offers up 'This too shall pass' is utterly clueless.

Thanks Doreen for that sage advice whilst my dads dying, the cats got run over and my husband is bonking the woman from number 42, I feel so much better already. 🙄

Most people on here seem not to know what mortified means.

You cannot milk an oat or an almond. Call it something else.

Academic grade inflation does exist. Worryingly so.

To quote Stephen Fry:
’peanut butter isn’t butter, quince cheese isn’t cheese, cream of coconut isn’t cream’

^^

Yep! However cats smell amazing

Making significant personal sacrifices that make your/your family’s life quality worse to try to combat climate change is ridiculous when 99.99% of people are carrying on as normal. Much better to just vote for the greenest political party and then as you were. In such a materialistic capitalist world, real change can only ever come from top down.

Western countries/western society isn’t patriarchal in any meaningful sense.

It is bizarre the esteem in which society holds film/tv actors.

There’s absolutely no problem with authoritative parenting and gasp spanking. Many kids would be vastly better off if their parents did this.

Agree 💯

It really worries me that you are a health professional and you seem to think its the fault of parents that their babies are in the NICU.

About 2% of babies in the UK are IVF babies. 10% of babies spend some time in special care. So you are saying 70% of those are IVF babies?? I don't think those statistics add up.

Also the success rate under 30 is 45% and I doesn't fall dramatically until approaching 40.

Out of interest and I'm making assumptions based on your username, so I genuinely apologise if I'm wrong, but did you adopt? Or does the 'overpopulation' opinion only fall on the shoulders of those who struggle to get pregnant or maintain a pregnancy?

Shouldn't all people adopt or foster instead of conceiving naturally to ease the burden of overpopulation?

Should we allow Ill people to just die to lower the population?

I don't really know how to express what I'm trying to say but I'll try.

Overpopulation is a fact but this is from people surviving childhood and living longer. Not something that I'm bothered or have strong opinions about. I'm NOT saying that anyone struggling to concieve should not have IVF and that they should adopt. If IVF weren't an option, more couples would probably consider adoption- probably a low percentage.

I did not adopt nor have I had IVF. I am very much aware of how privileged and how hypocritical I come across.

The point I was trying to make was that when you consider IVF purely from a disconnected, entirely void of emotion POV, there does not seem to be any benefit to society overall. Especially with the success rate of successfully having a child being so low. How much debt people are willing to take on by trying multiple rounds of IVF, once they've already used all their savings.

Obviously to the women and couples that have had to go through that journey it's a miracle if it works. For those that were unsuccessful its heartbreaking and can significantly impact their mental health, sometimes worse than before IVF.

The pizzas here are crap, they don't have that proper, authentic pizza taste. Best one I ever had was a simple tuna & red onion pizza, made in a traditional pizza oven in Lanzarote. Simple but oh so tasty.

Even the ones I had in Italy (Lake Garda) weren't great, but we did go to mostly tourist restaurants

I've had pizzas in Italy and they were the best

Dogs belong outside

I agree. The pong a dog gives off inside a house makes me want to throw up.
