What holiday places do you consider to be 'posh?'

Apologies for the sort of TAAT, but the Caribbean thread got me thinking. I know this can be very subjective too, but what holiday destinations would you immediately think of as 'posh', as in exclusive and for wealthy people?

OP posts:

St Barts.

AllAtSeaAgain · 17/05/2024 19:13

Anywhere out of Europe, probably. With the exception of North Africa.

Mrsjayy · 17/05/2024 19:14

Goa. I would think Is a posh holiday .

AnotherEmma · 17/05/2024 19:24

I've always thought of skiing (any destination) as quite posh, because I live in England and it tends to be pretty expensive to go skiing anywhere; plus it's the kind of holiday people tend to do as an extra in addition to a summer holiday.

Of course if you live near the Alps and can go skiing for the day it's more accessible and not posh at all.

DaveClifton · 17/05/2024 19:26

Mustique
Kloisters
Monaco
Oman
North Eastern Sardinia

AnotherEmma · 17/05/2024 19:26

Also, I don't think it has to be long haul to be posh. Lots of rich people like to holiday in the UK. Rock in Cornwall seems quite upper middle class - not super rich but definitely well off!

OneFrenchEgg · 17/05/2024 19:26

Monte Carlo
Cannes
St Biarritz

As in, you probably could go but it's not for the likes of you.

AgathaX · 17/05/2024 19:26

I don't think it's about the place, more about the accommodation and how you experience where you are. All inclusive anywhere in the world wouldn't sound posh to me.

Vitriolinsanity · 17/05/2024 19:27

Lake Como. Have you seen Taylor's flipping Villa?

Really?! I’d think the opposite tbh.

South Africa
Kenya/namibia/zambia/rwanda etc.
Antarctica
Canadian rockies
French Polynesia
Aspen

Miracleasap · 17/05/2024 19:29

Aruba

JimPansy · 17/05/2024 19:30

Butlin's

Bjorkdidit · 17/05/2024 19:30

It's not the distance from the UK that counts, surely its the quality of the accommodation, possibly travelling business or first class?

You could stay in a luxury hotel in the UK or Europe, that would be posh and expensive. Or you could go on a cheap and cheerful AI in the Caribbean or Mexico, or backpacking in Asia and that wouldn't be posh, and would possibly cost less than the UK luxury holiday.

Bali sounds posh, but some of it is effectively 'Benidorm for Australians'. Likewise some resorts in Mexico for the US market.

I too find this surprising if it's not a joke answer. I used to book nights there for a couple of pounds a night ( and not go) when I wanted to manage the values of my hotel reward nights. Sometimes I'd book DH for a treat. 😄

My first thought was the ski resorts I can't afford, mainly Swiss ones. Although skiing is never cheap because of the lift pass and ski hire, there are definitely ski resorts that are soooo far from posh, like the Benidorm of skiing.

Really I mean it shows I'm not posh I'd think flying .that far and holidaying in and Indian ocean is quite posh.

I've been a few times! Negril and Ochi

OneFrenchEgg · 17/05/2024 19:43

Goa sounds like a posh person's holiday not a posh holiday. Like a gap yah or 'observing the poor' type holidays

EverybodyLTB · 17/05/2024 19:48

Lake Como, although I have been there on a budget. People were commenting when I went, how fancy it was and asking if it was extortionate. I thinks its reputation is posh.

Botswana on safari.

foreverbasil · 17/05/2024 19:51

The poshest people I know have all been to Costa Rica at some point

MissAmbrosia · 17/05/2024 20:00

Mustique
Cap D'Antibes/ Monaco / Other Caps
The Hamptons
Various Swiss ski resorts.
Porto Cervo in Sardinia
Portofino

By posh - I mean accommodation and food prices well outside the means of most normal people. So maybe not POSH but expensive. I see people raving about IKOS on MN. I would not pay that money for a hotel where you could be anywhere.
