What holiday places do you consider to be 'posh?'

Apologies for the sort of TAAT, but the Caribbean thread got me thinking. I know this can be very subjective too, but what holiday destinations would you immediately think of as 'posh', as in exclusive and for wealthy people?

Bora Bora
Tahiti
Monte Carlo
Zermatt

User1979289 · 19/05/2024 13:27

Specific resorts - not places. Golden Eye in Jamaica, Sandy Lane in Barbados, Sixth Senses anywhere, 4 seasons Whistler etc

Vitriolinsanity · 19/05/2024 13:28

Oooh I'm going to Padstow next week. I'll pop a plum in my gob now Grin

Sailing in the Grenadines on a skippered charter
The St Regis hotel for skiing in Aspen
Any super luxury lodge on a private game reserve in South Africa
White Desert tour of Antartica

For those saying Cornwall, what is it exactly that makes it posh/wealthy? I know accommodation is very expensive, but is there anything else?

From someone who lives in Cornwall. Everything is extortionately priced, especially for the locals, it's holiday prices all year round for us but it's definitely not "posh" here. Especially because we have a huge poverty issue, as a result of the horrendous tourist prices and some of the lowest average earnings in the country, the majority of our towns are so run down.

Mustique
Cap D'Antibes/ Monaco / Other Caps
The Hamptons
Various Swiss ski resorts.
Porto Cervo in Sardinia
Portofino

By posh - I mean accommodation and food prices well outside the means of most normal people. So maybe not POSH but expensive. I see people raving about IKOS on MN. I would not pay that money for a hotel where you could be anywhere.

Switzerland is insanely expensive

French Riviera, Marbella and the Hamptons

Marbella isn't posh 🤣🤣 I've been

SuuzeeeQ · 19/05/2024 20:31

Expensive does not mean posh

Comfysock · 19/05/2024 20:34

Switzerland
The Hamptons
The Bahamas
St Tropez

Mrsjayy · 17/05/2024 19:14

Goa. I would think Is a posh holiday .

I think of it as an early 90s gap year destination.

Comfysock · 19/05/2024 20:35

Oooo and Monte Carlo

LindorDoubleChoc · 19/05/2024 20:51

Gstaad

Obviously the answer to all Cornwall's problems is to put a stop to all tourism immediately.

Moier · 19/05/2024 20:56

@Mrsjayy
Goa is certainly not posh.
The exact opposite.

Justcallmebebes · 19/05/2024 20:56

JimPansy · 17/05/2024 19:30

Butlin's

Haven Grin

mitogoshi · 19/05/2024 20:57

Nowhere specifically, well going to Antarctica is expensive i suppose but not necessarily posh. There's posh hotels but the location it's self doesn't mean it's fancy

Justcallmebebes · 19/05/2024 20:57

For those saying Goa. Have you been? Confused

Marplesyrup · 19/05/2024 20:59

Vitriolinsanity · 17/05/2024 19:27

Lake Como. Have you seen Taylor's flipping Villa?

Yes - definitely Lake Como.

mitogoshi · 19/05/2024 20:59

@Pinkbonbon

Hawaii isn't posh, it's where west coast Americans go for holidays, no more than going to Italy from the U.K. perhaps. Bali is another place that's posh from the U.K. due to airfares but from Australia it's Benidorm down under.

mitogoshi · 19/05/2024 21:00

Oh and lake como, beautiful but not posh unless you stay somewhere expensive, stay on the east side and it's an affordable option

AIstolemylunch · 19/05/2024 21:03

I recently went to the Caribbean on a work trip and everyone in Business Class was going to St Barts.

mitogoshi · 19/05/2024 21:08

Antibes isn't push either, yes yachty types but plenty of affordable hotels, it was cheaper than Nice when I went 2 years ago, I was on my way to Lake Como which was £80 a night!

wiffin · 19/05/2024 21:10

Wealthy people tend to have multiple holidays. So yes to Cornwall etc. But also yes to skiing and longhaul. As well as granny's rambling pile in the country.

Salcombe is full of self entitled people who are very important (and they want you to know it), have to have a good time (pressure!), drive cars badly on Devon lanes without knowing car width or how to reverse.

Mynewnameis · 19/05/2024 21:10

Soho farmhouse
Expensive resorts in Greece / Spain / Portugal e.g Eloubda, Sani, martinhal
Cornwall e.g Padstow. Also Salcombe.
Parents second home in South of France.
Or second home of their own in a nice place in UK.
Mark Warner.
A holiday with a nanny anywhere

DinnaeFashYersel · 19/05/2024 21:11

Ski-ing holidays.
